Small pause over the summer months
@HexhamRaces
but will miss it immensely. Today, we had a table overlooking the course with first grade catering for £28 each. 3 of us ate, I had 4 pints and the bill was £42. Why can’t it be like this everywhere?!
It’s
@Redcarracing
big day next Saturday with two listed races. They’re charging £15 Grandstand and £6 course if bought now. A family of 4 can have a day out for £12. They deserve to sell out.
Thoroughly commendable from
@Beverley_Races
today- free funfair rides for kids. £8 in course enclosure so a family can have a day out for £16. I know
@leemottershead
made some valid points today but worth pointing out when racecourses get it right!
- I wasn’t aware Frankie was actually paid appearance money to turn up. It’s so disappointing that for a sport that has given him so much and picked him up when he was at his lowest , he treats it with utter contempt.
With the aim of supporting Owners, Trainers, Jockeys & Stable Staff, we are pleased to announce for the remainder of 2024 we won’t be running a Hurdle or Chase below £9,000. All Bumpers will be run at £6,500.
Charge sensibly, put on good racing, treat your customers with respect and they will come.
Hexham do all the above in spades and it was a fantastic day.
Hexham doing all it can in the face of total lunacy from the regulator. It is regretful such measures are called for. I hope they sell out, but with admission for paddock from £12, it’s great value.
Because of the BHA’s Premierisation Project, three our our Saturday Meetings will be a Late Afternoon start.
We have decided to open gates at 1pm for you to enjoy racing from Premier Fixtures on TV’s before the live action starts on course.
We will also have garden games and
State of queues for food
@DoncasterRaces
…. We’re leaving after three races as they don’t have the infrastructure to cope with long queues . Everyone’s turf my foot
Baby Phoebe came into this world at 18:59 last night via Caesarian. Mum did amazingly and they’re both doing really well. She’s the most wonderful addition to our family and we love her very much. She’s gutted not to be going to Haydock on Wednesday, but she’ll be going soon!
After the atrocities in Southport yesterday, gave my 4yo an extra hug this morning ahead of going to Goodwood. The parents of the two children who were murdered yesterday don’t have that luxury and my heart goes out to them.
Todays admission prices for Paddock or equivalent -
Bath £31 + £3 “fulfilment fee”
Chester- £45
York- £32
Hexham - £15
Leicester- £21
Uttoxeter- £25.50 + £3 “fulfilment fee”
Sandown- no info on website to on the day ticket price
Ray Green, a great supporter of northern racing, has selflessly sponsored the Colin Parker since its inception. No company in the race title, just “The Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Steeple Chase”. A class act and I’m sure we’ll all think of Colin today.
I know
@RichardHoiles
is passionate about this too- but the main attraction at Plumpton is to stand next to a fence. Not many courses let you these days.
Kelso bound with the old man.
Special day today, 30 years of going to
@KelsoRacecourse
. It was that first visit to Kelso that really got this then 7 year old into racing, the view remains the same to this day . A wonderful racecourse.
Memo to courses. ADMISSION PRICES MATTER. PEOPLE ATTENDING CARE. In 9 hours 18,200 people have viewed the below to see Chester and Bath take the proverbial and the value offered
@HexhamRaces
. Look after your customers and they will look after you.

Biggest roar from yours truly will be if Simply Ned, 14 in 3 months, runs well tomorrow for
@NGRichardsRace
at
@KelsoRacecourse
. It will be his 7th run in succession in the race and he’s still rated 157. What a credit to connections.
Just back from a wonderful two days on Rowley Mile. Lovely to see throngs of people around the pre parade ring for the classics, which despite what you read on here, shows there’s still many enthusiasts left and not a drunken oik congregation.
It was only three weeks ago we were so elated when he won at Perth. He was a character and a joy to own. There’s an empty stable in Sheriff Hutton tonight and everyone is devastated. RIP Event, and thank you for the great days .
Todays been the hardest day since
@URSAMAJORRACING
began
This is my last photo I took with Event Of Sivola
Not the most talented but the biggest heart of them all
Thanks for everything
Il never forget you 🩷💛

There will be many more people affected in the racing industry in the months ahead , but on-course bookmakers in particular will be affected by this (correct following health advice )announcement. I’m proud to call many as friends and I wish each and every one all the best.

Epsom: £80 (maybe more on day)
Worcester: £31 (centre course only)
Musselburgh: £45

The top, given the quality, and bottom are fine.
On the day admission prices Saturday for Tatts:

Chester: £48
York: £34
Hexham:£15
Uttoxeter:£27 (as per Sandown)
Bath : £28 (APS)
Leicester ;this is from their website-£240 for a family of 4, Hexham £30!
When they were off … clever move. Horse hits human = both could be killed. You in-compassionate fuckwits. Piss off, get a job, some deodorant and a life instead of trying to disrupt those who are doing it better.
⚠️⚠️ BREAKING!!
Supporter of
#AnimalRising
makes it on to the tracks of the
#EpsomDerby
Despite The Jockey Club's claim that the horses safety is paramount, they decided to start the race DESPITE KNOWING THAT A PROTESTER WAS ON THE TRACKS. Another sickening display of profit >
Great to see Flower of Scotland win the Borders National for one of the nicest men in the game , Ray Green. Well done
@Danmcmenamin1
and
@LambdenRacing
Some of these awful comments about Boris Johnson. He’s leading the country, of course he needs a test and more importantly, he’s a human being. Hang your head in shame if you’re wishing him ill health.
Great to see
@RiponRaces
being excellent with pricing this Sunday:
✅ kids entertainment free
✅ £14 admission for a family of 4
✅ £20 if car parked in middle for family of 4
✅alcohol can be taken in
It’s not hard, and I hope they get a bumper crowd.
Great to hear
@MCYeeehaaa
continuing to bang the drum about on course bookmakers on
@itvracing
. These good people have been without income since March
Mrs SD and I are delighted to announce that baby is due on 3rd March, just in time for Cheltenham . I have been told in no uncertain terms that a 6 hour round trip to
@KelsoRacecourse
on 29th Feb is out of the question !
It should be a condition of a racecourse holding a meeting that the public should be able to spectate. If it isn’t, then the meeting shouldn’t go ahead. A slippery slope at Chelmsford tonight.
I love captain tom’s story, but given I and many others haven’t seen their parents for weeks, how can you justify Michael Ball going to his back garden ? Is this now suddenly okay?
Sadly unable to make the best meeting of the day
@HexhamRaces
as Phoebe is 4 today. Now on a double-figure of racecourses been to, she is a great credit to us. Happy birthday Phoebe
3 comments already all negative. I think Geoff Banks is a complete cretin, but I’d return the readies to him if it was wrong. The attitude of these “want it all” punters is horrid and demonstrates the total lack of common decency in society as a whole.
Paid £134.9 for Diesel en route to Ludlow today at an independent garage. It’s fairly clear the scumbag supermarkets are part of the reason inflation is so high as they take the proverbial.
Doncaster Racecourse have tried their hardest to make racing happen for the legion of fans who miss racing, only to be shit on by some jobsworth insignificant flexing his muscles. I hope the gravy train of free council tickets for the races is now derailed
Great common sense from
@rc_whitelock
in tomorrow’s RP. A fairly simple equation, “don’t rip them off and they will return”. Other racecourses should take note- this is part of the reason
@HexhamRaces
is one of the best in the country.
Why not bring a picnic and enjoy a summer’s afternoon with 7 exciting races this Saturday 17th June. 🏇
Under 18’s free when accompanied by an adult - 🏰 Bouncy Castle, Garden games, 🍦Ice Cream and donuts.
🍔 Fish & Chips, Burgers or try Afternoon Tea from our Bramble Tudor
Possibility of a blank weekend - so
@BHAHorseracing
schedules extra meeting at Southwell for Sunday, the only racecourse in the country not allowing admission for the general public. Another example of them not giving a stuff about the racegoer.
I know
@RichardHoiles
is passionate about this too- but the main attraction at Plumpton is to stand next to a fence. Not many courses let you these days.
Good to see
@rc_whitelock
wdddressing Hexham’s unfair problems head on in his racecard column
@HexhamRaces
today. It is such a pity that well-run delightful tracks like Hexham are being screwed over by Bha.
Sad news about Terry Lucas, a wonderful stalwart of the northern weighing room. Hard to believe he adds to the list of deceased northern jocks of Mark Birch, Lindsay Charnock and Tyrone Williams from that era.
Bangor bound . A bit different this week as 15 of us are on a minibus for my stag do and the pub is opening at 09:00 for us. I apologise in advance if I see you today.
Mrs grandmother just back from coach holiday. She’s 86.
She tell us via phone that she’s been to Scarborough, visiting Bridlington, Whitby and York last 3 days with another 30 octogenarians.
What on earth were the coach company playing at?
For all 14 of our Racedays in 2024, advance prices are £12 (£10 concessions) for the Paddock and £20 for the Club.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲!
It’s also easy to book, simply visit or give our friendly team a call on
I’ve done the Derby, Musselburgh, Donny on this day but
@HexhamRaces
is by far the most enjoyable tomorrow.
@saumarezsmith
and the rest of the BHA BAGS gravy train probably want some unseemly kick off time next year. Sad and unnecessary.
And if you’re going racing today, please bet on course in cash. Most books have been without income for 14 months and there’s always value to be had in “the betting jungle”. Nothing quite like the payment of copious notes into your palms after a well researched success!
So sad… Barry and Mac were the on-course link to punters in their living rooms for over a decade. He was a character and would always lay you. Thoughts with his family.
I understand the need for racecourses to be COVID secure,a cashless betting ring is unworkable.o/c bookmakers have suffered far more than others The fact I’m currently sat in a pub and paying cash indoors shows what a farce these rules needs a vibrant ring
Certain racecourses getting warranted flack for admission prices, but a big well done to
@Chepstow_Racing
for offering £10 tickets to their Saturday meeting (a decent day; Sire De Grugy ran a few years back) on 26th Feb.
Whilst televising Exeter should be applauded,
@itvracing
have missed a trick not taking a couple in from
@HexhamRaces
tomorrow to show how beautiful the course is.
