Jesus Campos works for Brawner Builders, the crew that was working on the Key Bridge when it collapsed. He said via translators that he used to be on the bridge team but was recently switched to a different shift. “I could have been there like my coworkers.”

In South L.A., the situation is less optimistic. Vendors at Los Amigos Mall were handed an eviction notice in May. At the Alameda Swap Meet, vendors were asked to pay months of missed rent or face eviction. The @LATenantsUnion is helping them fight.

In the last couple days, some Trona and Ridgecrest locals were afraid, but most were calm and optimistic after the July 4 quake. Their tone changed dramatically Friday evening when the 7.1 hit.
