My graphic novel Why Don't You Love Me? is out now from Drawn and Quarterly. Winner of the Observer Graphic Short Story Prize 2020. Cartoonist for Viz.
Not a dream! Not a hoax! Not a mental breakdown! A24 has optioned the rights to Why Don’t You Love Me? with plans to develop my graphic novel for film! Jennifer Lawrence is set to star. She is also set to produce with Ari Aster.
My publisher

asked
@neilhimself
if he would read my upcoming graphic novel, Why Don’t You Love Me?, and, incredibly, he replied with this blurb for it (see pic). I’ve known about this for a few weeks now and all I want to know is, when does the reeling stop?
At last I can tell you my news; I’m the winner of this years Observer Jonathan Cape Comica Graphic Short Story Prize. My strip is called Similar To But Not, about a chance encounter I had in 1985. Pics as it appears in today’s Observer newspaper.
I've had lots of new folowers here this week because of the announcement that a Why Don't You Love Me movie is in development with A24. Here are some exerts of the comic-strip in case you've never seen it before.
My publisher, Drawn And Quarterly, have just announced that they’re bringing my graphic novel, There’s No Time Like The Present, back into print early 2025. They will also be publishing a softcover edition of Why Don’t You Love Me around the same time. Both with new covers

Somebody recently enquired about buying the original art of a Ricky Gervais strip I drew for VIZ. The original doesn’t exist as it was drawn digitally. But I was happy to recreate it (for a fee, of course). I drew it on A2 paper, which seemed huge to me. I had fun.
The Comics Journal asks its contributors for their favourites of 2023 and Why Don’t You Love Me makes it FIVE times. “Rainey, on the other hand, has something specific and difficult to say. A real comic for adults.”

is a D+Q WIP! Claire and Mark are an ordinary couple struggling with marital issues, depression, burnout, and the occasional bad parenting decision - or are they? Perspective is everything. Acquiring Editor Tom Devlin.
Please remember Why Don’t You Love Me in your best of the year lists. Graphic novels, comics, books, albums, objects, buildings, people, thoughts, faces, meals etc.
I’ve entered the Graphic Short Story Competition 11 of the 12 years it’s been running and I’ve not won, run-up, been an honourable mention or received an email confirming receipt of my entry which is always weeks of work. Please read my entry for this year. I hope you enjoy it.
Audrey Pemberton started as a short story I improvised into my journal, then refined for a spoken word performance and then adapted into a comic-strip for VIZ. A very satisfying process.
My brand new comic, Starman, is launched today. It's about Freddie Burretti, the fashion designer who helped David Bowie create his Starman persona. You can only buy copies online. Read all about it here
A year ago today, I won the Observer Jonathan Cape Comica Graphic Short Story Prize with this strip, Similar To But Not. That was a good day. Signed copies of the strip are available to buy from my online shop.
Night three, borders drawn, artwork touched up and tape removed. My big comic-strip mural is finished. See it in The Centre MK, on the way into M&S.

At 1 PM tomorrow, I’ll be signing copies of my new graphic novel, Why Dont You Love Me?, at
@GoshComics
I’ve drawn a bunch of exclusive sketch-cards which will be given away with the book (while stocks last). See you there!
Don’t forget that my graphic novel, Why Don't You Love Me?, is still out in the real world for you to buy and/or read. All the reviews have been great. Neil Gaiman likes it.
Did you know that you can buy copies of my graphic novel Why Don’t You Love Me directly from me? These copies are signed to you and contain an original sketch.
Facebook has helped me to realise that I probably started work on Why Don’t You Love Me in 2015. It took me six years to complete and it was eight years before the graphic novel was published by Drawn & Quarterly. Where has my life gone?
