[1/n] Finally made a choice for grad school!
@Cornell
it is! Excited to explore lots of fun chemistry!
@CornellChem
. So grateful for the multiple acceptances from great schools, very humbled indeed! Sad I couldn't attend multiple grad schools :(

Moving abroad for a PhD actually means leaving behind your whole well knit universe. Haven't been this emotionally dense before, knowing very well "visiting" home won't be easy(7800+ miles apart) , and hugging mum-dad...........would be something of a Christmas wish :(
Some professors are just SO NICE, not just academically but as fellow humans too! If I am to continue in academia someday, note to my future self please strive to help students selflessly, well just be a great human first then a scientist! [PS: I am too inspired :) ]

(Plus the excitement to be the first person to break in this news to Ryan 😆) very very well deserved!! Looking forward to more amazing reads from
@Shenvi_Lab
Absolutely well deserved ! Managing out a whole more year seems herculean enough without the fun we used to have ( and I have no clue how I would survive this year without it) , best wishes for your upcoming PhD life and thanks for being an awesome lab mate !!
Very intriguing talk by Prof. Jerome Lacour
@LACOUR_UNIGE
as a part of Prof. P. C. Dutta Memorial Lecture 2024

Choosing a grad school is super hard especially when all the professors I met so far from all these schools are so very kind, passionate and doing cutting edge science, any way to split myself and do multiple PhDs with these multiple PIs? 😶🌫😶🌫😶🌫I don't wanna choose 😖
1 year to my summer REU
@UMNChemistry
and first time being in US, I learnt whole new chemistry and made such great friends and mentors, I am gonna cherish it for longgg, all the best to the ChemLando people this year
@UMNCSE
Revisiting your school after half a decade has to be one of the most emotional experiences. Seeing the overflowing compassion and sense of pride my teachers have for me, how much I long to be back. This golden family I once made shines brilliantly as ever! ✨ [1/n]
Rapid access to enantioenriched α-aminated benzofuran-2(3H)-ones, of course non-covalent NHC catalysts on the go ! (spoilers ahead : pi-pi interactions are fun :) )
What a fantastic way to end a Wednesday night, congratulations to Jiaqian (twitterless) from
@Fe_Will26
's group
@UMNChemistry
for a spectacular thesis defense, do I dream of Fluorine tonight ? [PS: I still have ur gift aka chopsticks and idk how to use them still :) ]
National PhD entrance exams
#UGCNET
cancelled. Excruciatingly alarming that "wannabe PhD" students are increasingly resorting to such dishonest means. Ethics need to be retaught and reinforced vigorously otherwise larger junks of unreliable research shall follow suit.
Grad school applications have got me questioning myself at every step : am I really worth getting into this program? Very scary 😰Plus its projecting so so expensive just to apply ~ 10 schools, some schools don't even offer waivers for international students 😔
Super exciting presentation (and pointer!!)
@iacskolkata
by
@biomimetic_chem
on (stereoretentive) enantioconvergent synthesis. Check out this superr cool preprint from their group!
[2/n] I count myself exceedingly fortunate to have had amazing mentors like
@Fe_Will26
@UnmKim
, Prof. Guin and Prof. Paine
@iacskolkata
. Would fall short of words to describe the gratitude I owe! Also I am very grateful to my parents for their constant love and support! ❤👨🔬

If you are thinking whether cell "squishiness" has anything to do with cancer and glucose levels, check out our recent publication from the KimLam
@UnmKim
@MBoCjournal
. Really glad to have been able to work with everyone !
I am excited to share our very first research article publication! In this study, we show that high glucose level impacts breast cancer cell mechanotype and motility via cAMP-RhoA-ROCK axis. Thanks and congratulations to all authors!

How can something so fundamental be stripped off the syllabi ! I am sorry but I highly doubt the competency of the panel, sheer disaster to follow if this is not reverted ASAP

Over 1.42 billion dreams shoot for the unchartered on the moon , wild to think that just around 7.5 decades back we were struggling to stick together as a nation. Yet another example what STEM can achieve if given the right wings to fly: the moon and beyond !
As if just getting to see my teachers again after half a decade was not enough, Ram Mohan Mission High School completed 25 glorious years, and awarded a few of the alumni 'Jewel of RMMHS' award. Very happy to be a recipient!

Me to myself: Don't be afraid to propose bold ideas, and don't scare off from working on projects spanning multiple disciplines! And ofc don't be harsh on yourself, you are gonna do fine!! [Also stop taking hell lot of 'extra' courses ಥ_ಥ]
So sad that us online coudn't see any of
@TehshikYoon
's slides , I enjoyed the auditory enthusiasm tho, with chiral Bronsted ab, cats. Had me wondering can planar enones be sandwiched in a planar chiral complex , organic version of Fu catalyst ? maybe if I gotto ask
@TehshikYoon
Wooh ! Making 19F even cooler, with a new buffet of highly fluorinated peptides for MRIs !! Congratuations to Jiaqian (still twitterless )
@Fe_Will26
group and all the authors for this recent feat !
Pitched in-cell 19F NMR during my job talks over a decade ago. Finally got to have our first crack at this designing highly fluorinated peptides for future molecular imaging applications. Check out Jiaqian Li's latest work here.
Took his classes the last semester, not even exaggerating that I learnt more of a practical "biology" than all of my previous semesters combined, that too in such a lucrative thought provoking way ,I guess gonna stick with me for long.Absolutely go check out his recent talk !
Gave a popular talk in Bangla on biases and noises in medicine and particularly in the context of diabetes. Here’s the link-

[2/n] Oxime ethers had long been known to undergo HAT mediated decomposition. We designed conditions to leverage this to a beneficial initiation process in a new mechanistic pathway rendering them as "bifunctional" :)
If chemists weren’t so narrow minded in how research papers were written, then total synthesis papers could read like fantastic epics. I’d watch a “greys anatomy” style total synthesis drama.
NGL the single most frightening thing I feel about staying in US as a potential grad student is this. SHOOTINGS NEED TO STOP ! My heart goes out to the victim and his family.
Today was a hard day in Chapel Hill. I’m thankful everyone in the
@LeibfarthGroup
is safe. There is something surreal in seeing law enforcement point a gun at the spot I have stood in front my fumehood for the last 4 years in Caudill Labs.
Radicalizing PLP chemistry in a whole new 'light' ! Definitely one of the best promiscuous biocatalysis works I read so far ! Congrats to
@yang2biocat
and coworkers for putting together this amazing piece of work (P.S: I love the super detailed supporting information as well !)
We published our first paper on pyridoxal radical biocatalysis in

What an amazing summer I had ! Learnt a lot and surely gonna miss everything about UMN !! Could not have pulled up my first ever poster without the gigantic support from the entire Pomerantz group , thankful indeed !!!
@dryeeseeks
This is so awesome ! The first time I used Prusa was during my summer REU in US last summer, got obsessed with 3d printing but sadly I don't find Prusas back here. Seeing so many lined up ...no I am not envious.
As promised we are launching the Dave Evans Problem Set Generator. This contains all of the problems hosted in his original service, with some modernization and streamlining. questions/suggestions:

[3/n] Now we can incorporate oximes together with sulfones across olefinic bonds in an atom-economic, regioselective and diastereoselective (syn -CN/H) fashion. Diverse chemical space probed and late stage functionalization included !
#Oximesulfonylation
just got started !
Today’s students will become better scientists.
Their dreams are often shattered by the reality of academia.
So, they show a pushback against the academic culture that is focused on quantity and flashy results.
▫️
The story with Stanford’s President shows one such example.
Jiaqian was one of the most amazing people I met at UMN, a perfect inspiration of undaunted perseverance. I really miss several of our "Asian only" talks and also those buffallo wings, wish you all the luck in your post PhD life. Arghhh I am never gonna get over summer 2022 !
Thought carbonyls were the only way out for synthesizing oximes ? Check out the recent work from our lab in
