On 10th Nov, Prof. Kankan Bhattacharya left us with a rich legacy of his science that he practiced in India between 1970's to 2020s. In those 50 years period, he learnt physical chemistry from the amazing Prof. Mihir Chowdhury while delivering 40+ brilliant academicians!! 1/n
Something to be proud of...two papers from frontline organic chemists in India
@maiti_iitb
and Swadhin Mandal
@iiserkol
..
New kind of chemistry!!!
@NatureCatalysis
such wonderful news!!!❤️
Many scientists believe that publishing many papers will give a job or enable retaining it along with awards..and is a sign of success. Yet a SINGLE paper with a simple yet profound idea can do much more❤️
@TIFRScience
#aimtodobetter
Very proud to share Nature Chemistry paper of my former JRF student
@ghoshata96
who with Jim now provides a view of the Marcus inverted region dynamics of a unique Co complex😊😊😊 congratulations Atanu!!!
@TIFRScience
With one of the brilliant minds we have in India ❤️
@DeyIACS
always in awe of his inorganic chemistry understanding and ability to relate disparate things in science!!!😊
We demonstrate photoinduced Glaser like C-C coupling in water for the first time...congratulations to Debojyoti
@roy_958
for making this happen finally and to Sunandita for initiating the work
@TIFRScience
...many more to come!
Thank you
@Ajay_RFI
. It's because of you and the subsequent students efforts this has been possible. Thank you
@RoySocChem
for the nomination and invitation. Finally I am in RSC😊
The scientific community in India has now good scientists but we desperately need good human beings...and who can genuinely help people in a scholarly manner! And who see the power of unified efforts to address challenging questions in science
@TIFRScience
@academi
Being a faculty for past decade I conclude that academia is no different than profit making venture😐 It's upto our generation to train future minds to restore compassion and scholarship in it. Not that I am good at it but trying will not hurt ❤️
"Chemical Shift" used in NMR spectroscopy was proposed by an Indian Chemist Dharmatti much to the chagrin of the Stanford physicists, coauthors in this 1951 JCP paper. And chemistry changed forever. Dharmatti came back to TIFR started the ChemPhys program
@TIFRScience
@JChemPhys
Happy to share that we can now do C-H activation/functionalization inside an all organic nanocavity, PCET trigger enables us to go metal-free route with preorganization of water in acetonitrile.😀

@RoySocChem
@roy_958
If the physicists think that chemists and biologists are lower level citizens of science then they ought to reconsider their position in the next 50 years...materials for energy and health will dominate discoveries..they can just watch OR join us

@AcademicChatter
Special feeling when you go back to your roots! All that we are is because of WHOLE that surrounds us at all points of time. 18 years after my defense going back to
@PrincetonChem
for a seminar on 15th August
@TIFRScience
Why are all scientists so much in love with demonstrating 10 papers in a talk, when they have a chance to talk about one idea in totality with conceptualization to execution and the learning associated with it?
@TIFRScience
are we all insecure about our standing in science?
TIFR welcomes you to a special event in honor of Prof. Deepak Dhar. On 13th April he will give NSF Wednesday Colloquium on the work that led to the 2022 Boltzmann Medal. First Indian to win it! Join at 3:30 pm
@TIFRScience
I leave
@PrincetonChem
today with wonderful memories ..from the warm reception by the Department in the seminar which all enjoyed to the science discussions with top scholars to "being taken care of" for everything ❤️ no place in the world matches up

Laser dance demonstrated by Dipin and Sunandita in our lab for FOS2022, original idea conceived by Sunandita in FOS2019. Q&A: Distinguish between CW and pulse laser😊😊😊

Had a chance to introduce Sudipta in FCS meeting, a class apart, the creative force behind StarTrek like "enterprise" that is FCS and the Fluorescence Society, a vehicle that fosters good science in the country❤️
@TIFRScience
A short trip to IIT Bombay to meet Anindya, Deeksha 😊met Naresh Rajarshi Debu and Amber also along with transient sighting of Arindam, Kamendra and Sunoj❤️
Amazingly sad but not shocking. I wish the rest of the world also takes a hard look at their own science! For all young members my only request is forget about what the world thinks, do reproducible and breakthrough science😊😊😊
We report hot polaron dynamics in P3HT films exclusively through resonance-selective Raman spectroscopy. Structural changes within few picoseconds drive the cooling thereby providing guidelines for hot-carrier devices.

@iitbombay
Congratulations to
@VPolshettiwar
to be the first SSB awardee since Samaresh Mitra in Chemistry, 41 years ago..in 1983❤️ for a department that is always had 10-15 faculty members and few students, this is a tremendous achievement 👏👏👏
@TIFRScience
it's party time now in Mumbai
I am deeply honored to receive the SS Bhatnagar Award (Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar).

Story:
To one of the greatest minds, my hero...Rudy Marcus turns hundred❤️ he showed that good science does not need home in high impact journals and number of papers don't matter! And for the Nobel story...thank you Harry Gray, you too will get it soon!❤️
Closed out the first ever Raman Symposium at ACS National Meeting. It took
@LevingerNancy

Azurin's blue color has a secret. Yes it is indeed a LMCT transition at 628 nm but a long-range hole delocalization involving Phe/Trp residues defines it!!! Thanks
@rivumitra
for leading the project and
@Koti_TIFR
for partnering in this!
Happy Teachers Day to everyone! One thing I have learnt through my mentors, good science isn't necessarily published in big journals, but it's a space where you motivate completely a layperson to join that field❤️ it can be through papers or science talks❤️❤️
We welcome all of you for the August Edition of the Joint IISc-TIFR webinar in Chemical Sciences. This month on 19th and 20th we have Prof. Jenny Nelson (Imperial College, UK) talking about Organic Solar Cells.

One important paper that changes the viewpoint of scholars in the community is better than 10 papers which add to the chorus of an existing theme...and papers are not be judged by journal name but "the content of their character" i.e. the idea! Undeniable facts!!
