This is more than a paper to me - while I LOVE Ni and arynes and doing something the data said you can’t do, this paper process made me grow up as a PI - it took tenacity, tears, storytelling, and most of all building and leading a team to accomplish something together
#proudPI
Socially distanced coffee break with my newest colleague Professor Jessica Lamb on her first day! Welcome to
@UMNChemistry
@Ewerpointe
! So excited to have you here!!!
#UMNProud
Introducing our little group! I’m very lucky to be working with Allen (
@AllenNoogen
) and Bailey this summer, two fantastic students who were adventurous enough to join a new lab! (📸 credit to Shelby From the Race lab)
@UMNChemistry
You may think your research group is the best…but have your students ever gotten you Oreos with your face on them or a cake with a metal bound aryne on it??
@robertsgroupumn
❤️
Congrats to the team!!! We started working on this chemistry in July 2020 during the toughest of circumstances but nevertheless we persisted!
#pandemicpaper
Congrats to
@jennahumke
on a successful PhD thesis defense! Jenna made an immeasurable impact on the
@robertsgroupumn

A massive congratulations to the voice of the
@robertsgroupumn
Dr.
@ErinPlasek
for an excellent defense!Erin was the first student to commit to join the group and she laid an incredible scientific foundation that I will be forever grateful for!
The first funding success for our lab
@robertsgroupumn
comes from our 3 awesome undergraduate students winning UROP awards! So proud of them for putting in the work to get preliminary data and each write a proposal!!
@UMNChemistry
WE HAVE 4 PHD CANDIDATES IN THE GROUP! Amazed at what this group of 4 has accomplished to build a lab, start 4 distinct projects, crush the written and oral exams all while being in grad school longer during a pandemic than in normal times.

Can’t believe it was just about a year ago that last year’s version of this ad popped up! I also can’t believe how incredibly fortunate I am to be in such a fantastic department and I can’t think of a better place to work than
@UMNChemistry
!
Our lab is going into hibernation today 😕 I was super sad to make this call but wanted to keep my students (and everyone they come in contact with) safe! We are going to be creative about how we navigate growing as scientists and embrace this new virultual challenge!
Just landed in Calgary for my first CCCE! Giving a talk tomorrow morning about…something! Still have plenty of time to decide what exactly it’s going to be on right?
#CCCE2022
Had a little fun taking our group picture in front of the colorful display in Tate Hall 😊
@robertsgroupumn
@UMNChemistry
Super excited to be working with this fantastic group!
This current case is closed but sometimes the courage of a survivor telling their story can give courage to others. If you too have experienced harassment by this individual or others at UMN, here is where to report it:
#IBelieveYou
#MeToo
In this week's cover story,
@l_wang_cen
and
@AWidenerCEN
tell the story of the biochemist Gianluigi Veglia, who harassed his lab members at the University of Minnesota but wasn’t fired. What lessons can the scientific community learn?
Thank you to
@TCUGreenGroup
for hosting me for my first ever outside departmental seminar! It was a lot of fun talking about the group's work and also hearing about some awesome chemistry going on at TCU!
That was impressive!
@ianatonks
and chilled champagne appeared in under four minutes! 😊 Then out for cider slushies with
@Ewerpointe
! I have great colleagues and even better friends!
Pro tip: it’s always a good idea to have a bottle of emergency champagne chilled and available for when good news gets delivered to students and colleagues!

I’m very lucky to have been part of this women (and Wes) in science mentoring circle at UMich! What a fantastic group of scientists from 6 labs - My time at UMich wouldn’t have been the same without you all and I can’t wait to see where everyone else ends up! ♥️
Congrats to two
@robertsgroupumn
students
@AllenNoogen
and
@JoshGavin17
for being recognized for excellent teaching and scholarship at the
@UMNChemistry
kickoff seminar today! 🥳 I’m lucky to work with these two fantastic students! Way to go team!!
Thanks for the encouragement
@DMEremin
! Love having friendly faces in the crowd! 😊 it is quite a privilege to be able to share the
@robertsgroupumn
’s chemistry!
We had 4 days to figure out how to capture what we love about the culture and research
@UMNChemistry
and share it with recruits. Also got us thinking how can we use Slack recruitment to reach more diverse student populations? Love to hear ideas on that!
Congrats to Team PHOX! Alex
@PinacolWhipped
creatively overcame so many synthetic challenges on this project and it’s a joy to see it come to fruition!
@inorga_nick
Nick lent his electrochemistry expertise to this project to finally get CV studies of aryne complexes! Stay tuned!
So excited to have my first first-author paper out in this special issue of ACS Org & Inorg Au! The regioselectivity observed in rxns of free arynes with inductively EWG is eroded when they are metal-bound, but we found that PHOX ligands can be used to synthesize (1/2)
Congrats to 2nd grad GS
@DenmanBrylon
and 3rd year GS
@ErinPlasek
on our
@robertsgroupumn
first paper on aryne chemistry! These two worked hard, smart and together on this and I’m proud to see their efforts come together!
More aryne news this week from
@robertsgroupumn
!
@ErinPlasek
and
@DenmanBrylon
have put together a Synpacts about how pur group thinks about catalyst rather than substrate control in aryne reactions.
Love
@Vy_Dong_Group
’s approach to letting the audience choose what to hear about via Zoom poll!! Such a great way to keep audiences engaged in a virtual seminar!
@EWOC8
Thrilled that UMN Chemistry will no longer consider the general or subject GRE exams in making admissions decisions!
