@trunarla
Every time you click on a movie an engineer gets a jira ticket to get the movie from the database and play it for you. Then they have to rewind the tape when it’s finished
@Komaniecki_R
Did not realise people actually liked brutalism. Thought it was just one of those things we put up with because we didn’t have money or time to make them look good
@okimstillhungry
Would never in a million years pass up an opportunity to fight a ghost - especially the ghost of a baby. Could not ask for a better warm up fight for the spirit realm
@ArmandDoma
> America shoots down missiles
The blockade is bloodless!
> Nobody has died thanks to missiles being shot down
It is a non-violent effort because nobody died!
@madeofmistak3
That was nice of them to offer though. I rang our insurance provider saying I had an identical quote $1000 a year cheaper and they told me I should move lmao
@TurnbullMalcolm
Precisely why nuclear is being opposed. We wouldn’t need renewables with it because it could solve all our requirements in a cheap and environmentally friendly way. We backed the wrong horse and refuse to admit it because there’s too much money tied up and fortunes made on the
@pope_head
Reading Dostoevsky: boy there sure were a lot of prostitutes around in old timey Russia…
Seeing all these TikTok videos and hearing all the OFs numbers has made me realise that basically nothing has changed.
@gbrl_dick
I’m pretty sure this is fake. There is no highlighter at all on her handwritten notes or sketches. I’ve met this girl 100 times and they never have a page of notes without highlighter on it
@StoopMensch
Your child will be able to blame you for every little thing that goes wrong with their life because you had full agency in choosing which genetic path to select.
@Boringstein
I mean what’ve you got to lose at that point. Never seeing friends or family again and what are they gonna do if they catch you? Put you in double prison?
@ShakesyGG
Correct. I’ve lost 4 posties and an Amazon delivery guy this week due to my over cautious, fire first, check later, approach. Better safe than sorry though
@ElijahSchaffer
Our entire economy is a house of cards that is only held up by “housing always goes up”. Taxes tied to the value of property mean governments are incentivised to make the number go high
@LandsharkRides
The whole point of life insurance is so your wife spends so much time fighting the insurance companies to get the payout that she forgets to be sad
@tszzl
Imagine admitting to being the lead on the - universally agreed - worst ads platform ever created. I just assumed Twitter had nobody working on ads and some intern spun up a proof of concept project a decade ago and they ran with it
@GrantSlatton
Does anyone have a link to that video with the chinese guys complaining that the Africans just refuse to maintain anything or understand how it works. Will probably answer any questions you have about the subject
@ImLunaHey
Not the end of the world and it makes the entire dev experience 100x easier. If a JWT in local storage is the biggest risk in your security profile you’re already more secure than 99.5% of the web
After 4 years in fully serverless environments I was convinced Serverless was a genuine business advantage. Now that I've been back in k8s land I am more certain than ever that serverless is at minimum a 10x advantage for a SaaS company.
@wanyeburkett
Equation seems pretty simple to me. Rich schools have better outcomes because the students come from rich families. Wealth is correlated with intelligence and intelligence is heritable.
🌶️ Docker for local dev sucks. Unless you just need a throwaway environment its almost always worse than just setting up a proper environment on your machine for daily driver languages
@AdrianFry23
@Komaniecki_R
I could see it being a deliberate architectural choice in a communist city. Almost an explicit denial of beauty and embrace of ugliness.
@clapifyoulikeme
This guy is a genuine hero. But also $50k just isn’t that much unless he’s worried about it being stolen. Just pay for everything in cash for a year and it will be gone
@nntaleb
The market has boom and bust cycles. Companies that build cash reserves lose in booms but capitalise in crashes when they can buy up competitors cheap. We need to keep that incentive structure and not bailout reckless governance
@QualityPoptarts
@ReviewsPossum
When I worked in service industry I’d clear 10-20 tables an hour during peak times though. So $5 per table per hour is still good money
@dan_abramov
Always use reduce. Need to filter an array? Np, use reduce. Need to transform it? You guessed it - reduce. Need a simple function that takes an input and returns a value? const fn = x => [x].reduce()
@gbrl_dick
The actual greatest potential source of scientific advancement here is if the peer review process somehow escapes institutional capture and progress is once more in the hands of the worthy and out of the grasp of the never want to leave school virgin
@piastrify
I like Yuki. I think if you had to make an argument you’d say he’s a bit too much of a hothead and could upset the dynamic. Personally I’d still have him driving over Perez though
@InternetH0F
Using “top X%” coupled with a sample of 1000 would definitely confuse a lot of people lmao. All they had to do was say in a room of 100 you’d be smarter than 9 and it would be a lot clearer
@dvassallo
It’s even worse. To get that $100 you need to earn between $150 and $200 before taxes. So you earn $200 to pay the plumber $100 who gets to keep like $40 of it. Yet somehow the government is always broke
@theverstappens
Oscar is clearly the better driver and McLaren cost him the win that race because they pitted him earlier than he needed because of Lando
My whole life I’ve had one goal…. Be a millionaire by 30. With a month to go I likely won’t make it. What I do have is a beautiful wife, 2 amazing children, and 2 more on the way and there’s no way I’d trade any of it for a few million dollars.
@garybernhardt
It’s almost as if software engineering isn’t the clerical process of writing the code.
I personally subscribe to Peter Naur’s “Theory Building” view of software design and don’t understand how it isn’t more widely embraced.
@mootoday
Wrong take but that’s ok.
Git hooks should never be mandatory (I despise them with a passion) and CI is there to protect the integrity of your master branch. You don’t delegate that to systems that can be bypassed
