In Sicily I had a neighbor who didn't know Sicily was an island. "Water? What water? I don't see any water." The ocean was 44 miles away. I think about this a lot these days.

My child is sick for the 2nd time in less than a month despite 100% high-quality masking indoors, eating lunch w me in the car every day, no assemblies, no indoor playdates... Before that we went 2.5 yrs w no sickness. The more people who mask, the better they work! 😷

It's really hard being someone who does not want to be infected by SARS-COV-2 over and over while also being surrounded by people who are fine with it and therefore don't care about infecting you. It's really, really hard.

My go-to response when my approach to keeping myself & child COVID-free comes up: We'll see how everyone is doing after their 6th or 7th infection, then we'll decide whether we want to jump in the pool. And then beautiful silence.

My dad is the only one wearing a mask when running errands in the conservative town he lives in. When people ask why he's masking he says, "Because if I get covid again, I'll die." Works like a charm to stop their questioning. Maybe it'll eventually change their minds about 😷
