This is an important point. 35mm scans are just alternative viewing experiences, theyโ€™re not inherently better than dvd/blu ray/4k releases

very glad people are circulating 35mm scans of classics, but it's puzzling people think these usually beaten-up prints with often distorted color are a necessarily superior way to watch these movies than the discs. they're usually as inaccurate, just in different ways.

@ex5_prime As I understand it, Kubrick composed EWS for 1.85 but protected for 1.33 because he knew thatโ€™s how the movie would be shown on home video releases.

@Vidor1 @passionofsofia Fantรดmas and Les Vampires are really good. Theyโ€™re obviously less formally innovative but theyโ€™re great fun. Ingeborg Holm and Danteโ€™s Inferno are other movies from before 1916 Iโ€™d rather watch than Birth of a Nation.

A pattern with MCU movies Iโ€™ve noticed is that most of them will have one or two sequences that look great but the other 95% of the movie will look like crap. The still from the movie directed by Sam Raimi is easily the best one btw

Both files have the same English and Spanish audio tracks but only the 4K version has English subtitles. Two of the English audio tracks are from the Arrow Blu-ray (2.0 and 5.1) and the English subtitles are also from the Arrow release.

Thanks to @Trancelot there are now subtitles for the 35mm scan! The subs he sourced from the open matte version had a small issue which I fixed, a "We're" had become a "VVeTe". The subtitles are available in the link above. Let me know if there are other errors in the subtitles.

@aibloomfield I completely agree, but sometimes the colors arenโ€™t accurate due to the print being old and faded or because of color grading by whoever scanned the print. I also read somewhere that different scanners can produce different results from the same print
