What makes a story evoke strong emotions โ wonder, kindness, nostalgia! โ inside of you?
I make videos that train the narrative eye. Here's some of my favourites:
I am confident I can make 90% of you here have your first lucid dream in less than 2 weeks, and your first fully controlled lucid dream (as in: you are the world and its god) in less than 2 months.

I know there's not a lot of people following me (new account)
But hey... Today I finished my first draft โ ever.
I'm a puddle of nice emotions. I'm like a human cheesecake. My soul is an extremely fluffy cat with a derpy face.

There is NOTHING like
@neilhimself
's Sandman. It's more of a loooong audioplay than an audiobook and it's treat from the beginning till the end
One day you'll have the instict to check your hands, but you'll be dreaming
YOU. WILL. NOTICE.
Then you'll probably panic and wake up, but that was step 1. When you get there, talk to me
Set up 12 alarms for yourself (soft sounds or vibration only, don't get startled), scattered throghout the day but not during difficult/uncomfortable hours
When the alarms ring, raise your hands and look at them. Ask yourself: am I dreaming?
Ok, if you've never heard of this before, here's the basic steps I'll recommend:
first and foremost: don't overthink it, don't overresearch it, don't overdo it - it's not about maximizing, it's about relaxing into a new habit 1/
@visakanv
My first line of thought was to approach it as a personal request for help - as in "hey, something heavy happened, and I'd really like to talk to you in person. I know you're busy, but the sooner the better"
Even the corrupt assistant would see no threat, I think
This technique is not special, it's rather known. It works with most people as long as you can cultivate enough curiosity to do it for a while before it really works
You're allowed to play with it and treat it as ironically as you want, just avoid frustration
Dear tpot โ how to control one's nerves?
I'm at the verge of a super life-defining bureaucratic process that I have very little control over. I've been experiencing sudden explosive surges of anxiety.
Anything that works for you to get a hold on yourself that I could try to?
If looking at your hands is easy and normal, you're not dreaming. It takes 2 seconds.
Get used to doing that many times, start to check without the alarms. Gradually deactivate the alarms
@jnsyaaa
It really works, no joke!
It kinda exclusively means 'I wanna keep playing' without judging the quality or nature of the play! It seems like it fits your goal here :)
I haven't been to vibecamp - but I've been the anti-lemur in a couple of different scenarios
Generally gatherings where the majority of people are introverts (literary cons etc). There's a lot of value in the sentence "hey, you seem to be alone, wanna join our circle?" ๐งต 1/
Strange thoughts on my first draft:
When I think "75.000 words": Wow! Pretty good! It's a big deal!
When I think "it's a 460Kb file": Did I just spend 9 months creating less than half a Mb worth of data?

Today I had a tweet go semi-viral and looking back, that gave me the chance to be nice and encouraging with a lot of people around the globe
Talking about the things you love, you believe, you stand for - gosh, that's magic
I made this Miyazaki tribute video a couple of weeks ago โ I think it's be best video I ever made.
Here's the main idea I'd like to reverberate: what if the hero's journey was towards kindness, care, connection?

Hey
@johngreen
hope at this point your mentions are clear as water.
But just in case: I've given copies of The Anthropocene Reviewed to at least 6 people. I think it's my 'most-repeated' gift. I think it's THAT good, you know?
Thank you for writing it.

@linesinmotion
thank you so so much for introducing me to Blue Period! I feel in love with it instantly.
A couple of months later, here's a video I made about it :) and mentioning your influence
I look up to you as a videomaker, hope it shows.
@namaferd
I understand and support your call to find your peers โ
But you didn't have to do it by reducing all fantasy, horror and romance to "pure entertainment".
I'm sorry you never found a book in those genres that made you think about the human condition.
Just wanted to share that with someone, even with a single person would be already nice.
Take those good vibes, add them as a topping to your chocolate chip ice cream!
Aphantasia is really interesting, but some folks have something akin to superphantasia. I can imagine two halves of a glass apple spinning in different axes - and I know people who can do even more.
It's baffling to me that some of y'all see stuff in your mind. You SEE it? The way your eyes see? I always thought "visualize" meant thinking of the words/ideas/feelings associated with a thing, not actual visuals.
I am such a total 5 on this scale I didn't know 1-4 existed.

That's a fair inquiry, but in the grand scheme of things I believe less than 0.1% of landlords actually built the places they rent
A discussion like that should focus on the general example, not the rare exceptions, right?
Many exceptions exist, but they're not the point
@visakanv
Not sure if this niche-y stuff is what you're looking for, but 9 years ago this absolute legend attended a Magic The Gathering tournament and took quasi-spiritual pictures next to all exposed buttcracks
People loved it, people hated it, people still remember it
I agree with
@RichDecibels
that it's the most influencial people that should take this role... but another part of me disagrees!
I think some people, myself included, find this task easy and risk-free. That's a resource that can be put to good use 2/

CEO: *unreasonably long stare behind giant unglasses

I swear to you - there's a couple of scenarios (
@VidCon
for example) where I go with this intention in mind: I'm going to be the pied piper of all the people looking at their feet
It's FUN. I'm telling you, it's not work, it's pleasure
And take my word for it: every group you help gathering - even if your involvement was minimal, will FO-RE-VER accept you with open arms
You probably don't need it, but it feels fantastic
There's no such thing as 'enough love'
Yesterday at 14h I had 900 subs on youtube. Today I woke up to 2500.
All because a (really cool) bigger YTber mentioned to her audience that she thought it was vexing that I had so few subs.
What a feeling, what unabashed joy. Now all my chemical receptors are out of place.
@joecappadona
I read a bunch about that! It never applied to me - but I think it's because I use the less realiable methods to lucid dream
Most of the most reliable methods involve breaking your deep sleep mid-way in some form, something I'm not willing to do
@babydontshirtme
Actually yes! But in my experience (and I know people who have a different take), as long I know I'm in a dream, I lose all fear
So even if there's guts and blood and murder, I'm scoffing it off and trying to assume control of the dream
Tomorrow is one of those days when an interview defines what's about to come for years and years
If you have even a little bit of luck in your pockets, spare one good thought my way. Here I go!
Years ago I read a game article that divided its player base in 3 main groups:
- Timmys want to live an experience
- Johnnys want to express themselves
- Spikes want to prove themselves
I immediately extrapolated it, and it has been useful ever since ๐งต 1/
Just spent 2h helping my dad with his CV and it was a humbling experience for both of us
The same emotional aspect of my dad's personality that makes him incapable of talking about his effectiveness rather than his passion is the thing that made him an amazing, loving father
Those two geniuses shared a love for nature - and used this love to fuel their writing. In doing so, they greatly influenced how we depict nature in fiction.
But how different were they really? I wrote a whole video comparing their narrative choices, link below
Last week I realised I'm most likely in the top 100 Studio Ghibli fans - I mean, who else makes a youtube channel that spends half of its time exploring why those movies are so good?
Who else watches the same scenes all over again and again?
Are you a top 100 fan of something?
I already read 3 people saying "I didn't know what to contribute" -- if you're a kind extrovert, this is what you contribute.
Anybody has the power to start a 'pack of strays', but you have the extra power to do it spending very little energy. Contribute this ;)
That requires, of course, that I assume an archetype - and that's not something I wanna do all day long. But doing this for 1h in the morning or after lunch is more than enough.
You become the glue. People quickly recognize you as that. You can even start groups, then leave ๐
I'm not unique because I have something nobody has.
I'm unique because I have a very specific combination of usual things that never existed before.
And that allows me to say, do and think things that are just mine - nobody else's brain could do it.

I'd love to inhabit a space where, instead of talking about the number of books people read in a year, we exchanged quotes that touched us. Little nuggets that we could carry forever :)
Could contribute to a culture of paying more attention to what we read

If only you had mocha on the menu, or at least as part of a secret, invisible menu... You'd be the best coffee place in the universe.
Will you hear my plea?
@RichDecibels
And sure, some people have a hard time tuning into groups they don't already know - and sometimes that's that, the convo didn't work
But other times, all you need is a question. You don't even need a good question, something in the lines of "what do you folks think of X?" 3/
wanna start a YOUTUBE CHANNEL? Some thoughts after 10 years experimenting
First you need a theme โ that's something you're terribly, manically, colossally interested in

Dear Berlin people <3 I'm again on the lookout for a place to live, either a WG or a full flat, from 1st of June on. Here's a little video about myself and the magic I can offer :)

gosh I had so much to discover when I was younger - and doing exactly what this lady seems to be doing: putting myself in situations where my personality would interact with new, unexplored mini-worlds
As a ๐ง๐ท, I discovered a new me when I had tea with beduins for the first time
Again, asking this questions costs different amounts of resources to different people. Kind extroverts spend amost zero calories making this scenario happen.
And gosh, the joy of seeing the lemur turning into a macaw just because you said "hey, you can hang out, it's cool"
You know when you meet someone who's just different from everybody else in your life? Somebody who shows you ideas you could not fathom before you met them?
My friend Gail Taylor died earlier this week, just found out. I'll have a Gail-shaped hole in my heart till the day I die.
Perhaps I should post more about my videos exploring the craft of writing - each one takes me anywhere from 30-40 hours to make and they distill everything I learned
Here's one that's about enjoying Princess Mononoke even more after paying attention to its nuances (link below)

Apparently I joined a jam session playing the harmonica with some desert folk when I was travelling through Morocco many years ago
Thing is, I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS
Bloody hell, life's weird and wonderful
Ok twitter, I've been coached - properly coached.
I've been making videos for far too long. I think my videos are interesting, but very few people see them. My coach agrees.
Between now and Mar 2024, my goal is to have a vid with over 100k views

When my dad was in the hospital in a critical state with covid, I had to call him to tell him HIS dad had died of covid. Hardest thing I've ever done.
You know what I told myself right before I pressed the call button?
I told myself "I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer"
I've spent 10 years accumulating knowledge on 'how to youtube' โ and I'm still in fetus stage with 4k subscribers (though they are the best, I must say, what a lovely community)

Tiktok day 1: oh hi, you probably like... semi-naked ladies dancing right? Most people like 'em.
Tiktok day 9: okokok, you ACTUALLY like videos of people fishing with their bare hands and atmospheric rain videos of lesser known Scotland towns. All good. I gotcha.

My first day in New Zealand, I was walking down this gorgeous (and CLEAN) harbour when I found a cool-looking coffee truck. It was silver, and kinda looked like a submarine.
Tried to buy an espresso, buy my card failed. The man gave me the coffee anyway. "Welcome to NZ" he said
Another one, this time from midjourney
My word, this is gorgeous โ and so so atmospheric
I could base an entire world in this picture alone, it's so atmospheric
