The answer as to why a16z and other VC’s push crypto/blockchain/web3 nonsense (when it is simply just bad tech) is that tokens allow for an easy exit, without having to wait for an IPO (and all that regulation and scrutiny that comes with it)

@GergelyOrosz It’s pretty hectic. They also swim under obstacles and up through what is clearly meant to simulate a hole in ice. And they keep the water cold. Only heated up on family day (Sunday). Nothing like the swimming I was taught.

You can easily Google them… Otherwise just buy your water of choice at any of the loads of supermarkets, terraces or cafes. If in doubt, the good water is San Pellegrino. Avoid Perrier

@benz145 You’re not thinking of families. If you have kids, it’s their own personal large screen. I don’t think it replaces the concept of a large primary household screen (except where large screens are not possible). But as additional private screens, that’s a big win

@GergelyOrosz You’ve just described my business! 😂 Taking that company and their tech stack, and reengineering it so that it can scale is an art form. Often you first need to convince the founder and other managers that it is actually a tech company (and not a marketing company)

Russian oil exports (black) in 2021 were 3 times as big as natural gas exports (blue), so oil prices matter disproportionately for Russia's war machine. If US allies in the Gulf ramp up production volumes to bring prices down, that would be a great act of solidarity with Ukraine!

@GergelyOrosz Everyone’s first big personal project in RoR is building a Twitter clone. It’s stupidly easy. The difficult part is the advertising tech and the moderation. And of course, the most important of all, you need concentrated users so social graphs come into effect.

@Carnage4Life I know someone whose old company is enforcing a non-compete, so he has to wait 3 months before starting his new job. But, if he is not employed for a span of 3 months, he has to leave the Netherlands. Nor does he have freedom of movement in the EU. His visa only applies in NL

@Carnage4Life LLaMa seems to be going down a similar path to Midjourney. I suspect this goes down a different route to search. We end up running LLM’s locally, and get periodic refreshed weights from Microsoft, Google, Meta. Apple in particular will push local usage
