I’m rather pleased with Bishop Sean’s election, and not only because he is my local bishop. He has a good reputation, preaches well, he’s orthodox, and I think he had some great ideas for economic use of resources and fighting church decline.

The Son was involved in Creation (as was the Holy Ghost). To assert that Christ misunderstood an historical event because it didn’t happen as Scripture recounts it is to assert Christ didn’t know his own handiwork.

My pleasure over the new Presiding Bishop’s election has been immediately tempered by the Convention’s hasty redefinition of the Prayer Book. That was not how that should have happened. I am embarrassed and frustrated. This will work confusion in our church at a vital time.

The second take here is rife with problems. The Creeds are not at all inconsistent with our dignity as image-bearers of God. In fact, they amplify it by pointing us toward the God whose image we bear. Also, Justice cannot be ontologically prior to God.

I think this fellow goes on in other replies to frame this as a christological issue (ie “Christ, being man as well as divine, must have been subject to human errors”), but surely Christ knew his own status as the 2nd person of the Trinity. The Gospel of John makes clear he did.

Ok we’re halfway through 2024. What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?

Here's a little more information about the producers. It appears one of the readers is the Rev. Gavin Dunbar of American Prayer Book Society fame. I'm thoroughly enjoying it; the canticle settings are particularly nice.

A little early summer fun reading. Informative and lively so far, though peppered with small, obvious factual errors (Tsar Nicholas II’s grandfather was assassinated, not his father) that are typical of Pen & Sword publications. Needs better editing.

@Ka1s3rE @WASPmexicano Name one single tract or sermon where Laud, Andrewes, or the canonical Caroline Divines argued in favor of transubstantiation. Here’s a short and recent article showing quotes where they explicitly reject it.

Tokugawa Ieyasu wrote to my forebear, King James I, he said: “Though separated by ten thousand leagues of clouds and waves, our territories are as it were close to each other”. Over 400-hundred years later, that sentiment remains at the heart of our friendship. -Charles III 🇬🇧🇯🇵

A solid piece. Magisterial as always, Ben. Well done.

Our feature piece in Issue 08 sees Cranmer’s Daily Office defended by Benjamin Crosby against modern critics in the liturgical movement who disdained its emphasis upon the annual reading of nearly the whole Bible.

@HiddenHistoryYT I think he's asleep on the armored conning tower, not the gun turret. The turret had a different shape.

@the_thin_place @mikeywaters3 Well said. I think IO is the default in my own diocese but the I definitely trumps the O at times. It’s a shame—the whole point, I think, is that inclusivity must be rooted in the orthodoxy to be coherent!

Unfortunately the rain will preclude any Midsummer’s Eve bonfires, but at least we don’t feel like we’re *in* the bonfire anymore. This past week’s heat was hellish.

Alright, I made my tea with milk this morning. Just be glad I’m not drinking five lattes a day, as is my American birthright.

I like to think I brew a decent cuppa for an American, but I do use half-and-half instead of milk, as I find the latter dilutes the tea a bit. Would I be pilloried for this in the old mother country?
