Well, this has certainly brought out the best and worst of Christianity, in a rather overwhelming way. Thank you so much to everyone who has sent supportive messages and comments over the past two days
The greatest joy and privilege to preside at the Eucharist this morning. “May the love of Jesus Christ draw you to himself, may his power strengthen you in his service, and may his joy fill your hearts”
Saddened to see from yesterday’s tweet that some people are so angered by joy. For those that are not, please do join us
@cadeirlan
online or in person this morning, as I preside at the Eucharist for the first time -
I should be at Mass now, being ashed. Instead I’m in A&E, waiting to find out what damage Covid has done to my lungs. Prayers would be appreciated, please.
Now that my notifications have calmed down and I can open this app without my phone crashing(!), I’d like to offer some support to any of the newly-ordained clergy who have received abuse on this platform over the past few days
Catholic Twitter needs to take a break.
These photographs mark the happiest day in Josie’s life. She chose to serve God in a way her Church allows.
To those Catholics who would tweet “come home” and think it sufficient: if you truly want to evangelise, try living in Christ.
Saying ‘for it is shameful for a woman to speak in church’ during evensong in a chapel mostly full of men is quite fun. Especially with my hair in plaits.
I’m sorry not to have replied to everyone individually, but please know that your love and care is deeply appreciated, and your kindness has an infinitely greater impact than any of the hateful comments.
From the ridiculous to the sublime - totally surreal to have been on

this morning, speaking about the hate female clergy have faced online. Now off to celebrate the Welsh Eucharist
@cadeirlan
!
I’m currently at a large event with a ‘church’ tent, where I’ve been sitting at a table on my own drinking coffee for 20 minutes, while all of the chaplains have completely ignored me in favour of all the older people who have come in.
They have the shields of some of the houses of Gwynedd in the Age of the Princes, associated with the diocese through their inclusion in the Cathedral’s Quire stalls (3/4)
There’s obviously no way to tell that I’m an ordinand, so I could be any young person who has wandered in, in search of someone to talk to. How can we claim that the church is actively trying to connect with younger people when they are ignored like this?
Because my post attracted so many derogatory comments, I also received a huge number of incredibly kind and affirming messages, whereas I’m aware that many people who received a smaller, but equally unacceptable, amount of abuse may not have received the same level of support
I know that receiving even one abusive comment can be incredibly upsetting. I’d recommend letting your TI/Bishop etc. know - if they’re not on social media they might not find out, and won’t be able to support you. My DMs are also open if anyone wants to chat or share experiences
For anyone thinking that getting a booster will be too difficult or complicated, I was having dinner opposite a pharmacy and just got my booster between my starter and my main
On this Eve of the Annunciation, I’m delighted to be able to share an announcement of my own: I will soon be moving to North Wales to serve my curacy in Bro Deiniol. God willing, I will be ordained deacon in Bangor Cathedral on Saturday 1st July 2023
Parishioner: Why do we need a faculty to repair the roof?
Vicar: It’s making a big change to the fabric of the building.
Parishioner: It would make a bigger change to the fabric of the building if the roof had a hole in it…
I’m delighted to share my ember card for my ordination to the priesthood this Petertide! Please pray for me, and for the people whom I continue to serve.
I will preside at the Eucharist for the first time at 11am on Sunday 30th June, at the Cathedral.
I’m not sure that I would have made it to my ordination without
@JimFellows1
sorting out all of the last minute logistics and enabling me to have some peace on my retreat. Very grateful for him, and for all who have accompanied me on this journey to ordination
Of your charity, please pray for my wonderful girlfriend, ordained Deacon today by
@ArchbishopWales
and the people she is to serve
@EsgobaethBangor
@sionrhysevans
. May St Deiniol and Our Lady of Walsingham pray for her in her ministry.
After a lot of tests, it looks like I have an infection - either still covid or another chest infection - but all the other tests were clear and there’s no damage to my lungs! I’m now safely back at home, and resting. Thank you all so much for all the love and prayers
Please keep me in your prayers as I prepare to celebrate my first Eucharist, at 11am this Sunday! A livestream will be available on the Cathedral’s YouTube channel
I’m immensely grateful to Dan for this - I’ve never had music written for me before, let alone a musical pun on my title! It’s so wonderful to work with such talented people

One of our lay clerks, Daniel Pett, wrote a new piece entitled ‘Tu Es Sacerdotes’ as a gift for
@Josie_Godfrey
on her ordination, even including a canon in a minor key - a minor canon for a Minor Canon!

“Life is not hurrying on to a receding future, nor hankering after an imagined past. It is the turning aside like Moses to the miracle of the lit bush, to a brightness that seemed as transitory as your youth once, but is the eternity that awaits you”
It’s taken two and a half years, but I have just successfully printed something from the college printer for the first time. How does one celebrate such an achievement?
Many apologies to
@WalkerMarcus
and all at St Bart’s - we were trying to turn off the light in the ringing chamber but we think we might have accidentally turned off the organ (and thank you to the very polite verger who came up to turn it back on)
There are so many exciting things happening at Bangor Cathedral
@cadeirlan
and across the diocese
@esgobaethbangor
. I’m really looking forward to this thread, showcasing our excellent music, liturgy, hospitality, Welsh-language provision, and much more
It was a joy-filled weekend, and wonderful showcase of the good things we can do, thanks to the hard work of the Cathedral family and Diocesan team
@EsgobaethBangor
. Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing our favourite moments from the weekend - follow along to find out more!
@JayHulmePoet
I was recently on a crowded train where I was standing next to the door to the loo, and every time someone tried to move, I was pushed against the button, the door opened, and everyone fell into the loo
I’ve had the most amazing time at

@Oikoumene
, and met some incredible people. I can’t believe it’s over already, but I’m so excited to get back to the UK and share what I’ve learnt about the ecumenical movement
Candle lit at and prayers offered at The Shrine of Our Lady of Fifth Avenue for the start of the new academic year at
@ssh_oxford
. Praying especially for all new ordinands, and for a fun, formational and successful year for all!
On 20th May 2020 I submitted my dissertation, having written it without access to a library. To celebrate, I had coffee in my garden with my mum, who I lived with. Compared to what most people are tweeting about what they were doing that day, I was very fortunate.
It has taken me most of the day to realise that the reason my shoulders are hurting is because I carried a monstrance in two Corpus Christi processions yesterday
