Delighted to get this from a student for missing a
@The24choir
reh. "I apologise for missing today, I got pooed on head to toe by a goose about 15 mins before the rehearsal started - so had no choice but to sort myself out. Hoping I never have to send an email like this again."
'Agility' - management-speak for cheap and lack of investment. I've stood in front of
@BBCSingers
and valued the things you DON'T get from an 'agile' group. This is built up over years. Do we get what this looks like outside the UK? What it does to the UK's reputation? Again.
Found it very difficult to go into Masters ensemble at
@Music_at_York
today. Yesterday we awarded six dept choral scholarships worth £1000 each only to bring news of this today. Do people understand how good the
@BBCSingers
are and how they've developed over recent times?
@ifagiolini
@BBCSingers
Hmm. Very few musical ensembles are as agile as ‘a cappella’ singers; indoors, outdoors, in classrooms, Baroque, jazz, world music. And what is the point of developing, educating and investing in young singers when what they see is their role models being axed?
I like
@BBCRadio3
Mixtape at 7pm. I like the idea of producers thinking through the connections (whether we understand them or not) and the balancing of the ingredients like a chef. Hooray for them.
NEW LETTER:
The chief conductors of *ALL* the European radio choirs are uniting against the planned closure of the

We urge those responsible

to reconsider. This world-class choir must be at the centre of any new strategy for choral music.

We don't mind you thinking we're a load of luvvies: we just don't understand why you don't get that our business is a massive earner for the UK. Even on YOUR narrow terms, it's worth supporting.

We had the Hippopotamus Song as the congregational hymn at my wedding in 96. Matthew Brook sang and we all joined in for the final chorus except my French wife's family who looked around like surprised lemurs.

Fagiolini means green beans in Italian; it sounds quite ridiculous. Not exactly the most proper name for a vocal ensemble.
We are thrilled to announce a £6.3 million gift towards music at Queen’s, ensuring that the choir has all necessary funds to continue sharing our music with audiences here in Oxford and around the world.

Farage speaking about the US election told BBC News: “The evidence for voter fraud from postal voting is there for all to see, we know it ourselves on our side of the pond” but - when challenged – admitted that there was “no evidence of fraud at this stage”. What a huge tosser.
In Geneva doing my music thing earning foreign currency for me/UK tax authorities. I'm asked here partly because of UK world-leading rep for early and choral music.
@BBCSingers
decision, Brexit,
@enointeractive
and other funding cuts all reduce that rep & economic strength.
Huge kudos tonight to Ruari Bowen who stood in for our indisposed tenor and smashed some pretty niche and really very difficult repertoire. Staggering display of musicianship.

This was one of the most witty, moving, eloquent and musical vocal performances I’ve heard for a long, long while. I’d like to think I’m difficult to please! But we were engaged and transfixed throughout. And it was live-streamed. Bravi tutti.

Am currently working with South African pianist Themba Mkhize (which is a thrill anyway), listening to some of his transcriptions of isicathamiya pieces. He's given me a Zulu name: ‘Madleb’eNdlovu’ - Mr Big Ears. (Madlebe -ears, iNdlovu -elephant). I'm rather chuffed.
Yup. 50% gender programming - school workshops - you name it,

This is the genius of the King's Singers - that you can do both. And although not as lauded until two weeks ago, it's what marks

Don’t worry, the other 2 albums coming out this year:

- Ligeti, Bingham, etc.
So it’s not a zero sum game, and not at the expense of ‘serious classical’ music

Let's get this the right way round. Stopping amateur choirs singing responsibly together is wrong. But don't begrudge those who r now allowed to sing: they waited long enough. Keep up pressure on MPs. What's the evidence that makes singing less safe than activities now allowed?
