Hiii.
So, I’m planning a Lagos meet-and-greet for people who are sooooo into African literature. We’ll talk about our faves, laugh and argue a lot. Will you come?😌
You won't hear daughters who cook, send money home, and still take care of themselves when they are away complaining like these. They are facing their lives.
Its the ones who are eating free food, getting pocket money and not paying rent that are harping about "responsibilities".
Everybody complains and that is okay. Responsibilities can be overwhelming. Difference is that, responsibilities make a man.
When men complain, it is because they want to be able to live up to their responsibility but are falling short. When women complain, it is because they
Nigerians read. Africans read. Don't be afraid to write because you think people are not reading. There's a vast community of readers waiting for your work.
How to make a writer fall in love with you:
1. Send them links to pieces that you read and loved.
2. Share their work
3. Frame a quote from their favourite author.
4. Buy them books (of course!)
5. Take them to places in the stories or poems they always talk about.
👇
Shoutout to every writer who's so passionate about reading even when they are not creating anything. They just read and read and read. No pressure to create. When they actually write, they write the best things.

I am happy for you. I know some people will troll the influence of God on your transformation. Well... Let's not argue that today. She recognized it as a problem and sought help. I think that's the most important thing.
My essay was one of the winning essays for the Inaugural Abebi Award in Afro-NonFiction. I am blown!
I'm grateful to
@__mofiyinfoluwa
for the residency that came with the award, for giving me five wonderful sisters, and to
@IseleMagazine
for giving my essay a home.

is our notable entry with her essay A Good Woman’s Language By unearthing hidden matrilineal histories, the writer shows us how power is sometimes buried deep in our bones and light can unbury us and set us free.
Good morning Twitter.
I'm Iruoma, a writer versed in fiction, non-fiction, and long-form content for SaaS brands. I'm open for ALL kinds of writing gigs. Please send your ghostwriting needs my way. Thanksss.😇
I admire how the entire writing thing teaches patience. People wait a whole year to hear back from journals. Excluding the time spent writing, rewriting, editing, submitting, repeat. It's really one of those top-tier callings, to be honest.
I believe writing begins in your head. But the work begins on the page. If you feel like the writing on the page is subpar to the ideas in your brain, it's normal. That's how it's supposed to be. That's where work begins.
We need a Caine Prize for creative nonfiction. A gigantic prize that rewards the gems hidden in literary magazines. We need this huge rep because the future of Afro-nonfiction is so bright.🥹
If that font convinces you that you've written the best thing yet, change it to Times New Roman or Calibri. Then, you can actually see the work of your hands.
I was speaking with someone who needed advice, and I said, "Never assume you can't do it until you have done it."
That word is stuck with me. I think that's advice for myself.
As a writer, having people who read your work and scrutinize with all honesty is a blessing. You can go from okay writer to being good. Like very good.
Sometimes, movement is not a product of clarity or confidence. It is a shaky dive into the deep. It is abandonment of shallow waters. It is motion, regardless. Many times, it is movement we need.
Once in a while, we meet people who define love again. Letam made my service year very memorable. The highlight was her coming all the way for the Abebi Award ceremony.
@design_empath
, I love love you.❤️

This year, I'm grateful for people. The many hands that held me up, listened to my rants, and made it make sense. I am grateful for the people who always reminded me that I was home to them, in both word and deed.

God is not religion. Neither is the power of Jesus to break sin. If you think masturbation is not a problem, that's not an issue. Someone did and realised she needed a supernatural force of help.
I am thrilled that I got into the Cave Canem Fellowship, but sad that I can't attend because of the travel expenses 😩. Hopefully, someday, when I'm in a better position, I will become a Cave Canem Fellow. Thank you

6. Attend book festivals together.
7. Offer to do a body massage.
8. Buy them drinks!!!
9. Drag them out when they've been indoor for too long
10. Let them be, sometimes.
Did I miss any?
My mum and I started watching this movie yesterday. I loved the constant use of Igbo language. It was mesmerizing.
I learnt a few things. I could sense some actors were struggling with the Igbo language, but that shows we have to do more. 9/10. Go watch!!!🫵
