@david_stillwell
That's nominal though, isn't it? The tax actuallyvpaid BTW someone earning £125K is actually substantially less than the headline figure due to the tax avoidance schemes they can pay a financial adviser to tell them about.
@carolvorders
@Independent
Reckon people should also be looking for connections between the Tory Party and owners of Rwandan businesses that will benefit from this scheme.
@RevRichardColes
It depends - if the Tories want to have a chance to save the Tory Party post election, it'll be in May. If they are prioritising the chance to steal the dregs of the country's metaphorical silver, it will be as late as possible.
@RevRichardColes
@SayeedaWarsi
Please pass on my regards. Despite being a Labour semi-activist, I've always regarded Baroness Warsi as one of the good people.
@politic_animal
This is the old rural conservationist Green versus the 'create the infrastructure to save the planet' Green tug of war, again. It will make the Green party non-functional, eventually.
@Mr_John_Oxley
Except that we should still be maintaining social distancing. Or do you believe that covid has gone away and nobody is going to die from it any more?
@LawDiscoveries
@Dominic2306
More than that, it was wrong fucking science. This was a virus from a class of pathogen known to mutate rapidly to avoid immune system adaptations. You don't have cold or flu parties for exactly this reason.
You'd have thought that data-driven advisors might have spotted this.
@AnnaBailey_Ely
@elystandard
Democratic deficit? Like getting the electoral system changed from a small nod to PR (the 1 - 2 system) to try to ensure that the Tory candidate favoured by a minority wins the mayorality next time?
You lecturing people about democratic deficits is the very definition of irony.
Mad. Driving lessons are not about how dar someone can drive; they're about skill in manoeuvring a car responsibly and safely and adhering to the rules of the road.
Or maybe the Tories now want to campaign that everyone should drive at 50 mph jn car parks?
Received an email from a driving instructor. He’s had to increase duration of lessons as students can’t cover the ground they need to with blanket 20mph. It means increased fees to cover fuel. The consequences of Labour’s blanket 20mph 🥲
Just another attempt at gaslighting by those who would deny the existence of congestion.
Private schools are already on holiday. Today is the last Friday of term for state schools (with increased absences) and those working from home usually do that on Friday.
MADINGLEY HILL 8am FRIDAY.
Again no congestion!
@CambridgeLabour
@CambridgeLDs
@CambsCC
couldn’t wait 3 mths to progress the £200m+ bus road that will bypass this congestion?? trashes the gbelt and goes where nobody wants to be. Beggars belief!
We've not been posting so many canvassing team photographs lately because we didn't want to swamp you, but we *have* to post this latest one from tonight because it is an absolutely brilliant photograph:
Out of the 54 or so replies to this at the time of looking, *four* (including me) pointed out that the women weren't wearing suits and ties. Over 99% of the respondents didn't notice.
Do y'all see the problem now?
@rhipratchett
I was just musing about this the other day - I am as fond of Lush as any other over-60's women with nieces and great nieces needing Christmas presents (have you seen the prices, lately, though) but have come back to the Body Shop in recent years because their products just *work*
@celestialweasel
@Mr_John_Oxley
Probably will if you get a nasty case of covid. Which has not gone away. I note that we are no longer providing vaccinations to the under-65s.
I'm struggling to reconcile the argument that the congestion charge will result in a wasteland-like Cambridge with the argument that there is too much growth in Cambridge and it needs to be stopped, now.
Perhaps the word 'struggling' isn't the right one.
Your regular reminder that light rail - with a couple of stops in the city - will not operate without a bus service to distribute people away from those stops.
Unless you want to replace all of the road networks with tram lines but then you're up against the motoring lobby.
@lokkju
@mekkaokerekebye
Mmmm. No. If the update is a response to a minimum requirement on the other end and the interviewee has so far been using their version of zoom quite happily then it is up to the 'other end to give these potential students the technical requirements for the interview in advance.
@LibDemPatrick
To be fair, I have had a similar cough since just after Christmas and have constantly tested negative for covid. Either the cough is covid and the tests don't work (although it has left me wrecked and depressed) or the cough is something else for which they do not have a test.
@CotonView
The current plans for the Orchard do not propose destroying it. Take a look at the maps held in the asset library which show where the busway goes through the orchard and the extent of the works proposed to create it. The vast majority of the Orchard will survive unscathed.
@PhilRodgers
Lib dems still 20 - 25% ahead. Also of note is the fact that there was no Labour candidate last time and the LDs benefitted then as a result. This is not the result that the anti-STZ tropers would have you believe. Put the Lab and LD results together and what do you get?
@CambsOpenMedia
Wasn't it the Friends of Mill Road Bridge who took the council to court? The council could just have folded - but they had evidence that the residents closeby overwhelmingly support the closure and that the FoMRB represent a minority. So democratically wrong not to fight.
@SteveCount
This is because of cuts to the county Council budget imposed by the Tory government in the new austerity that is necessary because of a disastrous series of decisions made by Tory PMs and chancellors.

@johnelworthy
It would make me worried that they are more concerned about the performative aspect of giving the money away. Give it away to charity, sure, but for it to be truly selfless they shouldn't tell anyone about it.
As it is, it's just another performative campaigning stance.
@ElizabethMcWill
@EastCambsLabour
You did a grand job and proud to be your acquaintance. There will be by-elections coming up and I know that we have a great pool of Westminster candidates in East Anglia - you're one of them.
@RevRichardColes
I cooked this for myself last year and it was the most delicious thing I have ever cooked. If you get another pair of chops, try it (you can cook them one at a time)
@LabourAlexB
You were brilliant Alex, and the fact that you didn't win has been the hardest part of this for me. There will be many, many people who recognise your quality and will also recognise the need to elect you to parliament as soon as possible, I hope.
This is great. It's long but you can have it on in the background while you're doing other things and it is incredibly informative. More of these, please. THANK YOU to

It would actually be a far more fair and intrinsically valid assessment if all candidates were given this information in advance, whether they already knew it or not.
@DannyBeales
@UKLabour
Hi Danny - I gave you a lift to the train station in the mid-beds by- election. I didn't know that you were also a candidate at the time. Anyway - wanted to wish you the best and fingers crossed that you win this.

@TiceRichard
Why isn't this a photograph? It's hard to see what someone looks like if they're dancing, although my impression is of someone who looks far older than the AI photpgraph would indicate.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a public transport system that enabled those who can't drive to move around without having to depend on family and friends to drive them? Real independence.
State of this.
Tories now campaigning on a platform of:
- killing more people in road accidents
- undermining the health of our children
- burning more oil.
I'm sure that all the people who have objected to XR's protests on the grounds that they are breaking the law will be equally condemnatory about those people cutting down ULEZ cameras
@MichaelRosenYes
Hi Michael - please set up a BskyB account to duplicate your posts there - it is getting busier and so far feels like a pre-2014 twitter account - interesting posts from people one knows and not contaminated with spam and angry people.
@borofergie
As I've said before, the Countervatives have absolutely no problem with congestion charging. What they do have problems with is a flexible, reliable public transport system with good reach and subsidised cheap fares.
@philmellows
@Harveys1790
It's not because of covid. It's because of Brexit. They can't get the staff to be sure of being able to wait on unbooked customers.
King's Hedges up and out at the crack of dawn today. Many thanks to
@DanKerry1889
and
@timothyggriffin
who took a break from Colwridge to help us climb many, many stairs.
Nothing could be as embarassing as Tory canvassers turning up on your doorstep and hiding the fact that they are Tories, pretending they are only there to talk about the STZ.
Or is that the only thing they have to offer? Even more embarassing, then.
@glenysmw
Must be embarrassing knocking door when one of your own councillor said in public labour is after power rather then working for people it’s shows how Labour Party work in cambridge.
@nigelpauley
@alexandrabulat
Agree. They've been playing factional games from the beginning and forgetting that councillors are elected to serve all the people.

I'd like to think that the majority who contribute to the present moment are more positive and constructive than that so that the present moment is not defined by those attitudes. Don't let Suella shape the present moment in her image.
@MichaelRosenYes
I don't know but I am wary of such simplistic answers as 'the government can issue bonds' as there are always knock-on effects. While money can appear to be created from nothing in the short term I suspect that leads to devaluation and inflation in the long term ...
@johnelworthy
@CambsNewsOnline
The issue is that residents expect a newspaper to be objective, factual and politically neutral. These fake newspapers are not that and often contain outright untruths, masquerading as objective fact because of the format.
@EMJP1981
@GreaterCambs
They depend on cars because the bus network needs fixing. They are also often in transport poverty - over 25% of their income goes on maintaining and running a car. Fixing the bus network would mean these people would not be car dependent and could save money.
@nigelpauley
I'm not denying that buses were a short-term fix in order to produce a modal shift to the use of public transport. Certainly I never said that future developments couldn't include light rail and actually I can't think of any of the proponents of a bus fix *now* who did that.
@ZoneOContention
@cambs_socialist
@PhilRodgers
@CambridgeIndy
The point about closing the bridge is that traffic will not use Mill Road as a rat run any more - cars can easily access Mill Road if they have business there, from either end. The traffic that just passes through Mill Road without stopping will be blocked (the rat-run traffic).
@BrynleyHeaven
@snifftheair
But if we want to make it easier for people to stop driving within the next two - three years we have to introduce an improved bus network *now*. And that means reducing the numbers of cars on the roads.
@BBCBreakfast
Sam Carling has been an astonishingly good councillor for his ward in Cambridge and, as Executive Councillor for Open Spaces and City Services, has been exemplary in using a limited budget to come up with innovative solutions to problems faced across the city.
The biggest blow to the Tories last night? Losing the nice Sword Lady. Penny Mordaunt was a reasonable, pragmatic, God-and-Country sense-of-duty Conservative, who didn't deserve to be punished for the antics of the right-wing loons and the antiquated 1922 committee.
Businesses on a busy street in Norwich say the county council's decision to remove the current pedestrianised status, could severely impact their earnings
@nigelpauley
You would have thought it would be possible to look at both but a large number of light rail advocates saw it as an either / or.
What should be remembered is that light rail won't distribute over the city. You still need an improved bus network, not subject to congestion.
