We found that vitamin D changes the gut microbiome boosting immune responses to cancer in mice. We used mouse diets containing different levels of vitamin D-we have no data to support any claim that SPF50 is harmful to health. For more information:

Mice are naturally coprophagic (🍽️💩) so we thought that the transmissible tumour resistance trait might be hidden in the fecal microbiome🦠 Indeed, Gc-/- fecal transplant (FT) ➡️ WT blocked tumour growth in WT mice, whilst Abx💊 inhibited cancer resistance in Gc-/- mice 😱 (6/n)

This phenotype is immune-dependent as it is completely lost in mice lacking T/B cells, cDC1, IFNAR or IFNGR. It also depends on the toll-like receptor/IL1R adaptor protein MyD88, typically involved in microbial recognition 🦠 And now comes the best part... 🥁 (7/n)

Just like 🐭 lacking sGsn, Gc-/- mice exhibited 📈higher activated cytotoxic T cell # in tumours, which were responsible for the tumour control. Gc loss enhances responses to T cell-based therapy💊 But this is where similarities with sGsn end and the plot thickens... 😶‍🌫️ (4/n)

🔎 # 1 We found that tumour resistance conferred by vitD 🍕 depends on the vitD receptor (VDR) in intestinal epithelial cells (IEC). VDRΔIEC 🐭 fed with high vitD 🍕 fail to transmit tumour control through their 💩, suggesting that vitD alters the microbiome via host cells (10/n)
