5 year old lit his pumpkin and excitedly waited in fancy dress for trick/treaters. None came (terrible weather). Tears followed. I called neighbour in secret who sent her 20 and 14 year olds round IN FULL ZOMBIE GEAR at 10 minutes notice. Happy 5yo. Best. Neighbours. Ever.

60% of the patients I saw on the admissions ward during this evening's on-call shift were young healthy people with complications of recent #covid (myocarditis and pulmonary emboli). It really is worth trying to not get covid

In answer to the most common question being asked: Mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated. But more than half were unvaccinated, which is quite an over-representation compared to vaccination rates in the local population.

Can we please just do away with #fireworks for home use? They injure many people, terrify pets and wildlife, are bad for the environment, and look shit. Large organised shows granted a permit might be acceptable, but in residential gardens? Nope.

My hospital trust has opened a food bank at each of its hospital sites. Great that the Trust is looking out for its staff in need. But... ... properly paid NHS staff should not need to access a food bank. So much wrong with, well, *everything* at the moment

@DrLou83 Absolutely this. Our rota managers seem confused when I decline locum shifts even at enhanced rates (I very rarely do locums). What they don't seem to understand is that I place more value on those hours with my kids than they could offer in money. I barely see them as it is!

Scrubs taught me about dealing with new doctor stresses/emotions better than med school. Dr Cox's "better go get yourself a cup of coffee. New game starts in 4 minutes" saw me through some of the darkest depths of the pandemic @JohnCMcGinley Scrubs is the *only* answer here

Son's 3rd #birthday earlier this week. I worried it would be a non-event for him stuck at home But: Online cake with family Nextdoor decorated our fence with balloons/banners Neighbours all came out to sing happy birthday Played all day together It was wonderful. He loved it.

Can we please stop using the phrase 'end of life pathway'? Dying (and looking after those who are dying) is not a flow chart. 'End of life care' is infinitely better. The semantics are important. If someone used 'pathway' about my loved one I'd be seething inside

Not the race I was hoping for at the World Multisport Championships. Saved my slowest run split in years for the biggest race! 🤦‍♂️ Lots of lessons learnt, and still enjoyed the whole age group world champs experience. Big thanks to @_MelEvans for photos and cheering x

@franjomcann @davidschneider @doctor_oxford 1. One COVID patient on a ward does not shut it. Likely means a lot of shuffling beds around, but bed areas cleaned and re-opened very quickly. 2. There are no staff to run the Nightingale Hospitals.

Watching 4 year old son play hide and seek in the park with a school friend. His friend is counting, and is stuck on a repeating loop between 12 and 19 (12 follows every 19 again...), while my son madly runs undecided between 2 equally terrible hiding places. Simple times 😊

@drclairetaylor From my understanding, and a quick look now for recent info on pubmed - d-dimer still appears to be a good rule out test for VTE even in the setting of covid. Geneva - patients with acute covid will score 2 for that so only need 1 more point to become 'high risk'. I imagine...

Final training run ahead of the @AshbyTwenty (20 mile run race) this weekend. When I was a 'proper' swimmer I was best at races lasting 2-4 mins. As a runner I'm best at 5-10km. This is not in my comfort zone! Wish me luck, and also consider donating to

@Graph1159 Of course. Viral myocarditis is not a new thing to covid. Covid does seem to be more likely to cause this than most other viruses though, and current high covid infection rates mean even uncommon complications are occurring reasonably often

… from the patient’s accompanying friends & communicated with, & updated a medical team on the ground. Thankfully, just after ~90 seconds of CPR, our patient regained a pulse and was starting to be somewhat arousable. Within 10 mins, she was able to sit up… 4/
