This could happen of course. However, the appetite of the Russian public for this sort of devastation wreaked against Ukraine will be a lot less than for it in Chechnya. Russian TV won’t show it but the news will seep out.

@Independent
Praised to the skies for Rwanda and the Braverman regime? Praised to the skies for the illiberal assaults on civil liberties? Praised to the skies for the U turn on housing? What are you smoking?
@Peston
The vast majority of Tory MPs have given up the idea of the Party winning the GE. They are focused on their own seats. Where local council results are available things are really grim even for MPs like Mercer and Mordaunt. The ground is shaking under their feet.
@Sime0nStylites
@SophyRidgeSky
Patel’s line on first safe country implies that the front line states- Spain Italy and Greece- should take the lot. That is completely unreasonable. The alternative to Rwanda is a deal with the EU where we agree to process in France those claiming close family links.
@jill_ster
@SangitaMyska
She took her daughter to allow her parents to see their grandchild. Sentence six years imprisonment. Same deal done as was available six years ago. Damn right she’s angry and particularly with Johnson’s careless blunder at the outset.
@RALee85
I can’t imagine Kyiv accepting severe limitations on its armed forces and I think Putin will be very reluctant to withdraw from the land bridge between Russia and Crimea and the extension of the puppet entities in the Donbass. No grounds for optimism at the moment.
@Osinttechnical
There’s no shame in surrendering when you’ve run out of ammunition. This was a heroic fight by very brave men. Salute also to the brave Red Cross workers trying to help Mariupol in the face of Russian shelling.

They weren’t punishing us. They were simply taking us at our word. We wanted third country status like Americans and South Africans and they said ok fine. If they change the rule we should be very grateful.

I think the photo showed a pretty clear story too. Will he check any statements made by partygoers with what they said last time?
@KayBurley
@LabourSJ
That’s a Tory members panel you’re quoting. There is some evidence of an increase in his ratings in opinion polls but he’s still rated below Starmer and the Party ratings remain awful.

@CitySamuel
Reminder withdrawing from the ECHR would be a clear breach of the Good Friday Agreement and result in loss of access to key EU criminal justice databases to which the police attach great importance.
@JackElsom
This scandal happened during long years of Conservative or Conservative led Government. Who were Daveys successors as Conservative Post Officer Ministers?
@scribblercat
Appalling behaviour by India. Not sure what’s going with UAE. Seeing the US as less important in the Middle East? Still,strong backing from others which is excellent. Biden administration has done a good job rallying the Free World after the Trump years.
@Steven_Swinford
It’s simply inconceivable that Reynolds took it upon himself to hand out 100 invites to Johnson’s garden without him knowing about in advance.
@IuliiaMendel
As long as majority support only is needed in the House Ukraine is safe. There are more than enough GOP members in the House who support Ukraine and the Dems in the House are pretty solid. The GOP in the Senate is strongly in favour of supporting Ukraine.
@NA1907_
According to Pep he was complaining at the lack of protection from referees from being fouled every time he got the ball. He wasn’t complaining about being taken off at all!
@KateEMcCann
@TimesRadio
Why don’t you ever ask the Conservatives how they will credibly make the sums work for the so called unprotected Departments like Justice and Local Government. There isn’t a serious commentator who thinks their public spending plans are credible yet no questions about this.
@PippaCrerar
There was no such thing as work events in the law at the time. Was a gathering reasonably necessary for work purposes or not? That was the test. In this case clearly not as the police have concluded.
@G_E_0_F_F
@Gabriel_Pogrund
If he’s suspended for more than 10 days he would be subject to recall. If Johnson tried to use the Tory majority to overturn such a decision it would be hugely controversial.
@christopherhope
Absolutely ridiculous. Starmer campaigned and took some food and drink during a break ( actually it hardly matters if he stopped after the meal. That was not a BOYB party, a birthday Party, a goodbye Party or an ABBA party. It was reasonably necessary for work.
@JohnRentoul
I think he misses the point. The green card issue is not about tax avoidance. The question is why? It suggests a lack of commitment to his country. Mrs Sunak’s issue was about substantial tax avoidance and perceived unfairness as she’s finally admitted.
@Samfr
The Green share of the vote went up over 4 points, almost all of it from Labour one assumes. Some of that must surely be from left wing voters not pleased with Starmer’s pitch for the centre ground.
@sundersays
@fascinatorfun
Leaving the ECHR would represent a clear breach of the Good Friday Agreement. At least some members of the Cabinet couldn’t support it.
@thatginamiller
Don’t be absurd. In seats where the LDs are in with a chance like Epsom they will go LD. All you’re doing is splitting the anti Tory vote to the benefit of a new right wing Tory MP.
@BethRigby
So much attention being paid by Central Office. What about Blackpool South by election, E Midlands, NE, Yorks and N Yorks mayoralties? Stop playing the Tory game.
@ColinYeo1
@jdportes
They can’t even deport to other EU countries since Brexit. They’re basically saying Moldova and Poland should deal with the whole problem instead of accepting burden sharing.
@PaulbernalUK
If HMRC were concerned about deliberate fraud they could initiate a prosecution. They haven’t. The sum allegedly at issue was a few thousand quid and she got planning permission for an enhancement in the form of a new kitchen so nothing to pay. She doesn’t owe Hodges anything.
@PippaCrerar
@devisridhar
The weakness of this argument is the position of large numbers of immuno compromised people, the fact that some people have a wretched time which hits productivity and of course the substantial numbers who get long Covid. Defanged is too strong a word.
@Arron_banks
Obviously you know nothing about the cab rank principle. It’s designed precisely to ensure that any defendant charged with any crime however serious gets a proper defence.
@RALee85
In view of what Ukrainian soldiers are discovering it’s not surprising that feelings are running very high. Still as far as possible Zelensky needs to put a stop to this unacceptable behaviour.
@BritainElects
@IpsosMORI
The centre left polling very strongly. Formal pacts are unlikely but if voters vote tactically the Tories would suffer very badly.
@BenMFreeman
Total failure to vaccinate especially among elderly. Compare with S Korea with very high number of cases but very high vaccination rates. They were very highly successful with contact tracing which bought time for vaccination. Now they’re reaping the benefits.
@dave43law
I don’t see how the police can be involved about CGT issues. If HMRC decide she underpaid she’d have to cough up but this would take some time to establish. Is the Telegraph trying to rake up controversy about her address on the electoral register at the time?
@steveliesman
What a nasty tweet. I’m delighted with the Ukrainian victories but your sneering at Britain, a close ally of the US, is unconscionable. Shame on you.
@christopherhope
What you ‘think’ doesn’t matter. They introduced the rules and if they broke them there are consequences. What people thought wasn’t a defence for anyone else. Pathetic.
