Electing local progressives with effective comms and mail. President of
@pollprogressive
. Colombian from DC. I'll probably encourage you to run for office.
If you’re a progressive who’s considering running for local office, DM me!
I know real change begins at the state and local level, and that’s why I co-founded
@PollProgressive
to provide affordable comms and polling to downballot leftists. Let’s chat!
Some much-needed good news:
Tonight, in deep-red Nebraska, pro-choice organizations and state senators (led by
@NebraskaMegan
) managed to defeat a bill that would have totally banned abortion in the state. They filibustered it for 8 hours!
🥳🥳🥳
It’s wild how colleges, especially Massachusetts colleges, have been the center of protests since forever (Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, Iraq, etc) and yet every time they happen it’s treated like a dangerous aberration.
People outside of MA don’t understand how absurdly undemocratic the MA legislature is.
They pass almost nothing the entire legislative session, waiting until the literal last second to then ram through dozens of bills at the same time. And this all happens at like 3am.
It’s nearly 12:30 on the last (?) day of formal sessions, and most bills are still bottled up.
@MarcRPacheco
isn’t pleased.
“Back in the day … we had hundreds and hundreds of bills in the course of the session… I think activists will be tremendously frustrated.”

Thanks,
@wutrain
, for bringing this to life with free fares on 23, 29, & 28 buses starting 3/1.
Yesterday, after I emailed and tweeted at him, Rep. Honan asked for my phone number. I’m very grateful that I got to speak with him personally, but I left the conversation extremely disappointed. THREAD:
How exactly does the Boston Globe expect the culture of secrecy and corruption in the State House to end? They (rightfully) complain about it 24/7 then endorse incumbents. What's the plan?
Students: cancel it
Legal experts: cancel it
Progressives: cancel it
Joe and Kamala: how in the world can we alleviate the burdens of student debt?? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Kamala Harris on
@FaceTheNation
exclusive airing Sunday: We have to "figure out how we can creatively relieve the pressure that students are feeling because of their student loan debt" before the 2022 midterms.
I feel like a presidential campaign would only do this after intense focus grouping and polling, which is to say I NEED to see the focus group where they tested this.
“People just want to see their kids, you know? Maybe make a few more memories.“
The simplest arguments are often the most persuasive. These amazing workers deserve a better contract.
NEW: Railroad workers are telling Congress to stop doing the bidding of profitable & exploitative railroad companies.
3 of the 5 largest rail unions rejected a tentative contract that gives workers 0 paid sick days.
Workers want Congress to improve the deal & save the industry.
Thank you
@AyannaPressley
for voting no on the infrastructure bill tonight. Roads and bridges are great, but we need real systemic progressive reform in this country.
For context: this is a former state rep who lost his primary because he stonewalled progressive legislation.
Now he’s a lobbyist trying to troll constituents for having the *audacity* to ask their government to work for them. Neat!
You guys have been shitting on the House all day. Take a rest . Tommorow is another day. I know the shit will come my way for tweeting this. Bring it on baby.
“What kind of Democrat are you?”
I’m a constituent service Democrat.
Define it as you will with whatever ideology. I ran for office to take care of my lifelong home community, that’s what I do in office and that’s why I filed today to run for a third two-year term this Nov. 2.
I can already tell that the right is going to go after Walz for providing driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants.
But let me tell you: as someone who witnessed the debate on that same topic in MA, the policy is very obviously correct if you think about it for 5 seconds.
Hello
@wutrain
, just called your city hotline and I was told that there are no longer any city COVID testing sites here in Allston/Brighton.
Any chance that could be fixed? Many people here still need testing. Thank you!
Why is it that city councilors in Massachusetts can't meet in private but the legislature can speak behind closed doors for months and then release a bill that will be voted on and passed within a week?
Can’t believe I got to meet
@wutrain
today!
If you live in Boston, don’t forget that early voting starts TODAY. Together we can bring the Green New Deal to our city.
The Supreme Court just ruled that donors can basically bribe winning candidates under the guise of helping them pay back their personal loans to the campaign. Super corrosive to our already strained democracy.
In plain English: The Supreme Court says that a candidate can loan himself money during a campaign, then collect donations *after* the election to repay his loans—when donors already know the outcome of the election.
I feel like a presidential campaign would only do this after intense focus grouping and polling, which is to say I NEED to see the focus group where they tested this.
@ettingermentum
I polled older, more conservative Dems in Michigan and found that even they were open to voting Uncommitted. This is widespread discontent.
🚨NEW POLL🚨
We surveyed Michigan Democrats who have voted in two of the last three presidential primaries and are very likely to vote tomorrow.
Here’s what we found:
Though it seems small, making voters pay for postage on their ballots contributes to voter suppression. It doesn’t even say how many stamps it needs!
Literally nothing about voting should cost the voter anything.
Larry Hogan is now attacking
@BenJealous
for having a stutter. That’s the kind of low class, disgusting, repugnant politics that an extremist in disguise would use. Get Hogan out.
This morning we sent off acceptance letters to an 😍AMAZING😍 inaugural cohort of Campaign Fellows. Together with our mind-blowing group of mentors and speakers, we can’t wait for the magic that is about to begin on

To conclude, I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak to Rep. Honan, but I was extremely dissatisfied with the answers I got. On housing, I didn’t feel the urgency that the situation deserved. On Indigenous rights, I didn’t really get an answer at all. A real bummer.
Gov. Charlie Baker and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be honored with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute Award for Inspired Leadership at a virtual event tomorrow night
@AlexCTaliadoros
Not sure if this counts, but I love that the city will remove bulk items for buildings with 3 or less units for free.That includes couches, mattresses, and refrigerators!
All you have to do is set up an appointment with 311.
@EJGoulet
@MayorBowser
@charlesallen
@councilofdc
I and many people do blame him because he’s the president and he’s choosing to do this.
If you only support home rule when you agree with what locals decide, then you don’t support home rule.
The Massachusetts House just blocked anyone making below $38,000 from getting immediate relief in the economic recovery bill.
They did so without a vote. That way, all the people who opposed it aren’t on the record.
Disgusting and wrong.
All of this versus potentially losing the mayoral election? Yeah I’d say all of these other victories are way more important and it’s not even close. It was a fantastic night for the left.
Mixed night for the left across NY - wins in Rochester and Buffalo, couple city council victories in NYC, Williams easily re-nominated, Lander (comptroller) and Bragg (Manhattan DA). The WFP's decision to back Aboushi over Bragg was a misfire, though if Bragg prevails, bygones.
Just submitted this LTE to
@GlobeOpinion
. The lack of public testing facilities in Allston-Brighton is completely unacceptable. We need something to change, and fast!
@LizBreadon
From Emerson to Brighton, I’ve loved my 7 years in Boston. Now, we’re moving to Washington, DC for a new life chapter!
Don’t worry, I’m going to continue my work electing progressives at the state and local level (especially in MA). The work doesn’t stop!
Onwards! 😊
Got my first non-Annissa mailer! This one’s from
@votehalbert
, who’s an excellent candidate and one of my 4 picks for councilor at-large.
Please consider joining me in voting for him on September 14!
If MA repealed the ban on rent control, would you try to pass such an ordinance?
Wu: YES
Campbell: Want to say yes, but have a conversation
Essaibi George, Santiago, Barros: NO

While he was on the phone, I asked Rep. Honan about the Indigenous People’s Day legislation. Instead of pledging support, he referred me to some murals in Allston-Brighton that he had helped fund years ago. Not only was that a complete deflection, but it was also insulting.
New — Inside Manchin outreach.
⁃Manchin thanked Khanna for saying he’s not racist after Bush attacked him
⁃Manchin told Jayapal she has no leverage over him
⁃Tense talks over paid leave
⁃Biden warns progressives the whole agenda could sink.
A state rep from Allston-Brighton endorsed a terrible candidate and didn’t even mention housing in his statement??
Unbelievable. We could’ve had Jordan.
The point of the call was to discuss the eviction moratorium. Rep. Honan said he’d been doing his best getting the votes, but that it was hung up in committee for unknown reasons. He also said that it was ultimately up to Baker which, though partly true, felt like just an excuse.
Last month, the Pentagon failed an audit for the fourth time.
Congress keeps giving it more and more money, with no strings.
Only 51 Democrats voted against the FY 2022 NDAA tonight.
NEW: House and Senate leaders have announced one-time rebates of $250 per taxpayer/$500 for married couples by 9/30 as way of economic relief. Eligibility based on 2021 annual income: min is $38,000, max is $100,000 for individual/$150,000 for joint filers

Three years ago today I hosted and moderated a candidate forum to educate Emerson students about the MA-07 congressional race. Meeting
@AyannaPressley
and asking her policy questions was a dream come true!
Palfrey may personally support Campbell, but the voters who supported him for his stated positions will find that Liss-Riordan is a far better choice.
Shannon will fight for what Quentin would have, and more.
Here's an updated list of the reps who endorsed either Bernie or Warren in the 2020 Dem primaries, and how they voted on the high-income tax yesterday.
Green = vote is consistent with their endorsement
Red = vote is inconsistent

This July 4th I want to celebrate the fact that my half-sister became a US citizen a couple weeks ago 🥳
After studying and passing the citizenship test, I’m sure she knows more about US history than the average American 😂
