The murder of a 6-year-old & injuries to at least 7 others in DC in last 24 hours as a result of drive-bys is not senseless shooting; it is because guns are easily accessed for hurting and killing people in our city & country. There are too many guns & they are too easy to get.

Good morning DC! We are all Washingtonians. Yesterday and over the past week, some of our youngest residents took part in our civic engagement process. It gives me great hope for our city! Thank you again, and I am excited to represent you for another four years!

Thank you to @DCPoliceDept officers assigned to houses of worship tonight and tomorrow. It is sad that services for a new year’s celebration begin with emergency evacuation plans and police presence but this is the state of our country right now.

Here's my ask, DC residents: Read comments of neighbors responding to this message who participated in this process. You'll see many feel hours of hard work, discussion, compromise, collaboration w @councilofdc Subcmte on Redistricting has been tossed out, ignored at 11th hour.

I have had several conversations with residents concerned over aspects of maps drawn by the Redistricting Subcommittee in Wards 3 and 7. I have worked to address these concerns by crafting alternatives to the proposed maps to achieve compromise. 1/2

Much has been written about the corrosive Trump influence in political debate. Now we see it in our own city. This is such a deceptive, cynical, repeal and replace move. I think DC residents and businesses deserve better.

NOW is when we should be realistic about return to school, not Jan. 1 or 2. Omicron is incredibly contagious, which is not only a community spread issue but a staffing issue. This will impact essential services, schools, hospitals, police, etc. Let's be pro-active, not reactive.

The newly renovated, Mies van der Rohe-designed flagship MLK Library is quite spectacular. Go see it! But I have to say the most awesome thing I discovered in celebrating 125 years of @dcpl last night is its dedicated staff, including Central Library Director Maryann James-Daley.

I knew this guy was insufferable on national politics but he is just clueless and uninformed on local affairs, which is a shame because he lives here and other people listen to him. He is the part of the MAGA group in DC local politics, voting against his own good gov interest.

Nobody should “monger” fear but objectively the rate of murders and shootings in DC soared this year while falling in the vast majority of American cities — this is not some kind of made up problem.

I usually stick to DC affairs but the murder of George Floyd is so sickening & disturbing. The Twin Cities are like a second home to me because I have close friends who live there who I visit every summer. This is heartbreaking in so many ways. We cannot let hate and racism win.

It's 11:35 pm, I've just gotten home from observing protesters & @DCPoliceDept w @DistrictOPC . But I'm headed back out to see voters who are still in line at various polling sites. From email requests to my office, large numbers of voters never got absentee ballots. Unacceptable.

Sports gambling in DC is a complete embarrassment, but it is actually typical of how @councilofdc operates. It was deceptively sold as a way to fund Violence Prevention & child care. Money for violence prevention: $0 Money for child care: $0 But connected contractors got paid.

How we reopen school buildings safely & keep our DCPS community safe from COVID-19 as we expand in-person learning is worth my time as an elected representative serving in our state legislature. It should be a priority. So far this major decision has gotten two hours of oversight
