The world of cricket has a giant. A 'Prince of spin' bowling and a true gentleman. Cricket has lost a true original thinker who caught no favour from anyone. He was a man who displayed conviction and integrity at all times in equal measure. He was a truly GREAT MAN. RIP.

Rest in Peace, 'Deadly' Derek Underwood. I feel lucky to have seen him play. One of the most unplayable bowlers of all time without a shadow of a doubt. He was a complete 'one-off'. He was also a very kindly and super friendly individual to whoever he met. Very very sad indeed!

The blame for England's current ODI malaise must lay squarely and solely with the ECB for peddling The Hundred (even at the expense of the Ashes) and totally sidelining the domestic 50 Over game. As they say, you reap what you sow. Get rid of The Hundred now!

A terrific cricketer & super nice guy! In '81 remember waiting outside a London hotel waiting to see a glimpse of the Aussie tourists. He came out & really engaged with us rather than just signing & walking off. As a little kid of 10, you never forget those sort of things!!

Today is the 8th anniversary of the death of Margaret Thatcher. However, I am embarrassed by the sheer volume of abuse levelled at her on social media. While I did not vote for her, she was unarguably a remarkable leader who deserves our respect, not least as a woman in politics!

2 May will see the 50th Birthday of Brian Lara, 1 of the greatest ever Test batsman. In 1994, his 375 & 501 n/o broke world records for the highest Test & 1st-class scores. His 153 n/o v Aus in Barbados in 1999 was rated by Wisden as the 2nd best batting Test performance.

RIP to spinner Rajinder Goel who died on June 21 last year. Although he never played for India, he took 750 1st class wickets @ 18.58, with 637 taken in the Ranji Trophy, where he remains its highest wicket-taker. 'A true romantic of the game' as one Indian daily noted!

11 April 1955 saw Garry Sobers begin a run of 85 consecutive Tests in the 2nd Test v Australia at Trinidad. Richie Benaud once wrote that he was “the greatest all-round cricketer the world has seen..a brilliant batsman, splendid fielder...and a bowler of extraordinary skill.”

On 12 April 1976 in the 3rd Test at Port of Spain, India made 406 in the 4th innings to beat WI by 6 wickets (Gavaskar made 102, Viswanath 112 & Patel 49), creating a WR record for the highest successful 4th innings' Test run chase (beating Aussies 404/3 at Headingley in 1948).

Well done New Zealand on a deserved victory. No one - not even the most militant of England fans - will ever begrudge them of this famous victory (also remembering the World Cup Final). A match 'for the ages' with Test Cricket being the ultimate winner!

One example to illustrate why the word 'class' and the name 'Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards' go hand in hand! RESPECT!

@ivivianrichards U cud hv easily run him out. But,as the ball came to U off a ricochet, U thought it would be in poor taste to run him out. Legends like you r not born but demonstrate supremacy by your character. No wonder that U r SIR V RICHARDS.
