We buried my aunt today. My uncle, her husband, lives in a care home. His daughter was the only one allowed anywhere near him over the last few days - No wake, no post-funeral tea and sambos. Now he goes into quarantine for 14 days.
I don’t know how he will cope.😢

Today I have agreed a temporary relaxation of the EU driving time & resting time rules due to the impact that the Omicron variant is having on the haulage & logistics sector. I want to thank all in the industry for their continued resilience & work during this challenging time🚛
I'm back at work today after 4 weeks of paternity leave🧑💻
It's hard to overstate just how brilliant (and important) the last few weeks have been for our family and how grateful I am to McInnes Dunne Murphy LLP for being so generous with my leave.
I didn’t get elected today but we must be doing something right
@labour
! 🙌
27 votes from all parties and none - I’m humbled and grateful for the support. Congrats to
@gerryhorkan

We go again! 🌹💪🏻

I love Trinity’s new front lawn as a hive of biodiversity 🐝🐞🐛🕷️🌿🌱
Immaculately mowed lawns are a fad of the Victorian era. High time we moved on from these relics of colonialism!
Got knocked down by a careless driver as I cycled to work this morning😔
You can see where my front tyre hit her passenger door as she suddenly turned left across me as I was heading straight on
Thankfully I’m fine. A sore wrist & grazed knee. Grateful it wasn’t so much worse🙏
Absolutely blown away by my morning’s cycle along the costa del Sandycove.
So many people of all ages and shapes and sizes out enjoying one of the best cycling facilities in the county. Kudos to you
@dlrcc
👏
Now let’s link it to Ringsend and beyond! 🚴♀️🚴🏻♂️
*taps mic* is this on?
I’ll say this again for the benefit of anyone who wasn’t paying attention 🙄
🚨 Employers in Ireland may not unilaterally change Terms & Conditions of Employment!🚨
Here’s the text of the email Musk sent to Twitter staff overnight.
Those who don’t commit to being “extremely hardcore” by 5pm ET today must leave the company. ‼️
Story:
SO many cyclists out commuting this morning 🚴🏻♂️ Imagine how many more of us there’d be and how much carbon there wouldn’t be if the government actually invested in cycling

Hi I’m Ciaran Ahern and I’m running for the Seanad 🙌
You may remember me from such other campaigns as...😅
Here’s a little video on why I’m running...hopefully it chimes with you ☺️🌹
#Seanad21
@labour
I’m so proud to be running for the Seanad and thanks to everyone for your lovely support so far ☺️
It’s gonna be an odd campaign for many reasons, but I’m looking forward to continuing our push for a kinder, fairer and more sustainable society 🌹🙌
We are proud and delighted to be nominating our two excellent candidates for the Seanad bye-elections:
@votefeeney1
and
@ciaranahern
Looking forward to the campaign ahead. 🌹
Pick up your copy of the Irish garden birds poster with Tuesday's Irish Times.
Produced in partnership with
@BirdWatchIE
, and beautifully illustrated by Mike Langman, with expert notes by Niall Hatch, the double-sided poster appears in both English and Irish languages.
This is beyond depressing😩
Our largest opposition party have nothing to say about the
#IPCCReport
, but to slag off the leader of the only party in Govt that wants to take action on climate
By the time SF is in Govt it’ll be too late to fix, and no thanks to them

In response to the cost of living crisis Eamon Ryan comes out with his big idea by telling us all: Travel less and shower less frequently...
What planet is this guy living on?

for myself today. Quite a surreal moment!😎
It is a huge privilege to run in a General Election and I’m so proud of our positive and ambitious campaign.
Please make sure you exercise your right to vote today. And ideally please vote for me! 😅

Staying away from the
#GE2020
count for now and went for a run around my favourite park in the world to clear my head.
Fair to say running in the middle of a storm clears the head pretty well! 😅⛈🙌
Alan Kelly was one of the architects of austerity and enforcer of water charges.
He was Minister responsible for housing in the government that built the least public housing in decades and invited in the vultures, sowing the seeds of today's housing crisis.
Good riddance.
I’m running for election because I believe in a kinder, fairer, more sustainable future for us all.
Please Vote No 1 Ciarán Ahern on 8th February

Observe this mother in her natural habitat of Killiney Hill 😍
Happy first Mother’s Day
@maeveorourke
, and thanks for slumming it in Rathfarnham with me!
Finally telling a friend you’re a politician 😂
I’ve had many serious conversations during this local election campaign…this wasn’t one of them!! 😂

If your Irish employer fires you for refusing to accept new employment terms…
🚨That’s an unfair dismissal for which you can be awarded up to two years’ pay🚨
If you’re worried about these things join a union and / or talk to an employment lawyer! ✊
Credit where credit is due - a good address tonight from our Taoiseach.
Whether or not we always agree with them, it is very reassuring that we’ve got competent and decent political leaders in place at this critical time.
#COVID19
I’m so damn proud today ☺️
What a candidate, what a campaign 💪🏻🌹
Massive congrats to
@ivanabacik
who will be a brilliant TD ❤️
Huge credit too to campaign manager supremo
@dermotryanirl
🙌
We’ll enjoy this one! 🥳
This re-writing of history by SF is outrageous.
There was always a non-violent alternative to IRA/SF and the vast vast majority of Irish people stood with John Hume and the SDLP. And we still do.
Asked whether she believes IRA violence was justified, Sinn Féin President
@MaryLouMcDonald
says the Irish people were justified to stand against British imperialism.
Watch the full interview on View From Stormont tonight at 11.05PM on

A landlord closed his door on me today because I said I was in favour of a rent freeze. I am. It’s true. 😱
It’s constitutional.
But Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are landlords. And their friends are landlords. And none of them want anything to change.
Vote for change.
#GE2020
The three stages of taking down your own election posters:
1️⃣Dry, happy, with friend 😄
2️⃣Dry, happy, with big clippers😅
3️⃣Wet, miserable, 500 more to go...😱
Nothing brings you back down to earth quite like this!! 😂

We need to talk about Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPP) cos it's becoming a big problem in Ireland🧵
Big developers are suing local community groups on vexatious "defamation" grounds to intimidate them from objecting to planning applications🤯
This day last year
#GE2020
was called. I abruptly left work, cycles to a press conference & was announced as
@labour
candidate for Dublin South West.
It was a privilege & the most stressful yet enjoyable thing I’ve ever done. Thanks to all who supported me and here’s to more! 😄
My granny, who is 96, already got Covid & kicked its ass in January, has now just got her first dose of vaccine 💉🙌
Things are so so tough at the moment, like lots of us my mental health is all over the place -but I’m clinging to these small wins.
We can get through this👍😁#
Had to ask my taxi driver tonight to slow down to respect the 50km and then 30km speed restrictions as I got a lift home from town
Felt like a total numpty 😳
But taxi doing 70km on 50km road 🏎
He said it didn’t matter as no Gardai out.
Surely it shouldn’t work like this?
Sad to see the removal of many beautiful old trees in St Enda’s Park and Whitechurch Road in
#Rathfarnham
Part of a flood alleviation scheme, but seems to be an over-engineered solution which is ruining the character and biodiversity of a beautiful old road 😢
It's not easy to be leader of
@labour
at any time, not least over the last few years.
I've huge respect for Brendan, but it is time for the next generation to step up.
We have great leadership contenders and I'm excited for the kinder, fairer future we will all work for🙌🌹
Great to get a first glimpse of an almost-finished bit Dodder Greenway in
#Rathfarnham
🌳🌳
A long way to go on this project, but will be seriously good when all finished 🚲🚲
Glorious day for a cycle around the Phoenix Park. Families reclaiming the streets with bikes, rollerblades and buggies. The nicest I’ve ever seen our park and we need to keep it this way.
Topped off with some DiFontaine’s pizza on the way home. This is the life! 😎🚴🚴♀️🍕
Cycled to the Phoenix Park today for a
@CalcuttaRun
meeting - great to see protected cycle lanes all the way along a car-park free Chesterfield Ave. An absolute delight to cycle😍😄
Well done to everyone who campaigned for this positive change 👏👏
@marie_sherlock
@Pidge
A very proud evening ☺️
I’ve been officially selected as a candidate for the local election in
#Rathfarnham
#Templeogue
🌹
I’m incredibly excited and honoured to run to represent my home town.
Let’s go! 🙌🙌
Congratulations to John Nisbet selected in Artane-Whitehall and John Lonergan selected in Ballymun-Finglas.
And congratulations to Ciaran Ahern and Cllr Pamela Kearns selected to run in Rathfarmham-Templeogue and Abdulaziz Almoayyad selected to run in Tallaght South 🌹.
#LE24
Big day ahead at Leinster House so dusting down my good suit and having a shave this morning — it’s a real treat to get out of the house these days! 🎩🪒🛀🏻
Should have the result of the Seanad by-elections by lunchtime. Thanks for all the support! 🌹🤞
@votefeeney1
@labour
What a joy it is to reach the Dodder Greenway after cycling home through the chaos, traffic and danger of town😍😌🙌🚲
If we’re going to move the dial on active travel we need more of this 👇🚲🚲
I walked away from this thankfully
Headed straight to a cafe to get the most sugar-filled drink I can think of and currently contemplating the fragility of life on a bean bag in my office.

Professor Ciaran Bolger is a fantastic guest on

. I was thinking I'd be more than happy to have him operate on my brain, despite his rock band music, his X-Box killing... But when I heard he was from
Ballyboden.... 😉
So proud to march today for an

Massive turnout with lots of non political types attending too, and so much of our civil society. We all say

Baby’s first protest today!
Again we were joined by friends and

colleagues to protest the disgusting and unjustifiable war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.
We continue to urge Govt to expel the Ambassador and give all possible support to

So proud to attend my first Council meeting today 😊
Looking forward to working with all my council colleagues to achieve a kinder, fairer and more sustainable South Dublin! ❤️🌹
Cargo bikes are the future 🚲
Instead of giving €10k subsidies for electric Chelsea tractors, the govt should buy 2 and a half cargo bikes for everyone who wants one 🚲😎
Nice to see e-cargo bikes featured in The Times today (good work
@fusionmediasvs
team)!
It got me thinking: Isn’t it funny how a £35,000 SUV is perceived as totally normal but a £4,000 cargo bike is so outrageous the price should make it into the headline?
Another Friday, another bop around town after work with
@IBIKEDublin
It such a joy and release to cycle with a critical mass so we don’t need to worry about being killed by cars every second.
Highly recommended.

I experienced a microcosm of the lack of rural cycling / walking infrastructure when I tried to go for a jog around Downings in Donegal recently.
Footpath disappeared outside town centre and dumped me on the 80km/hr Wild Atlantic (Speed) Way 🚙🚗
Utterly terrifying
#ireland
Over the last 11 weeks, more than 300,000 people have experienced the traffic-free streets of Capel St & Parliament St. This weekend is the final scheduled weekend so be sure to check it out!

Maeve knows what she’s talking about because she (& others eg
@clann_project
) spend literally thousands of hours working w/ survivors & academics on an entirely voluntary basis.
It is not easy to be a lone voice arguing against the might of the state. I’m so proud of her 😘
My sincere condolences to Tonya McEvoy’s family.
A “wobble” from a cyclist should not result in their death.
Drivers must expect the unexpected at all times on our roads.
We need to have a serious conversation on road safely and speed limits in this country.
This case raise so many questions..
Fighting back tears, Tonya’s sister, Ciara remarked: “I just feel there’s no justice for Tonya. It’s not fair. We have to live every day with this grief.”
A beautiful, uplifting demonstration at the GPO this lunchtime in solidarity with our workers and immigrants.
We believe in hope not hate ❤️
We want an Ireland for All 🇮🇪👏
You see something like this and think why would anyone want to get into politics…
How can Gardai just sit back and let this happen 🤯
Completely disgusting and unacceptable in our society. Must be stopped.
Solidarity with
@rodericogorman
❤️
Masked men harass Minister Roderic O'Gorman by covering his home in unfounded propaganda banners this evening. And it appears stopping a car in his street. Is this where we are now? Is your home no longer a safe space? Where will this end?
UPDATE: Last night, another 8 Palestinian children were killed in the Gaza Strip. The youngest 4 years old, the oldest 15.
Since escalation began 5 days ago, 40 children were killed in the Gaza Strip & 2 in Israel.
These are children.
This is a grave violation
#AChildIsAChild
The news coming out of Ballinteer this afternoon is absolutely shocking and tragic.
I’d urge locals to please stay away from the house in question and let the emergency services do their jobs.
Cycling can be the fastest, cheapest and simplest way to reduce traffic congestion and overcrowding on public transport, as well as reducing our carbon emissions.
BUT we need safe segregated cycle lanes.
I will prioritise this in

Wonderful evening bike bopping / reclaiming the streets.
Great fun vibes and loads of support from everyone we passed.
This is my kind of protest! 🚴🏻♂️🎶
@IBIKEDublin
@dublincycling
Very proud of
@maeveorourke
who won a Special Merit award at
@IrishLawAwards
last night for her incredible human rights work 😍
Great to catch up with so many pals across the legal sector and nice of the organisers to support
@CalcuttaRun
via the raffle 👏😄
Early morning photo shoot to demonstrate the efficiency of space on our roads 📸
Showing the different amounts of space it takes to move 15 people by walking, bikes, bus and car.
TLDR: 🚗 are incredibly inefficient!
We will all be voting for councillors next year. Some us may even be running for council 👀
Make sure you ask council candidates to confirm they won’t nominate divisive, hate-spewing candidates for our presidency or the Seanad.
NEW: Peter Casey says he will running for president again in 2025 and calls for a temporary ban on all immigration, including from EU.
He calls for tighter controls on immigration more generally as “open borders” are “totally destroying Irish culture”.
May she rest in peace 💔
This is why I campaign with
@dublincycling
for safe, segregated cycling infrastructure 🚲
Our roads are not fit for purpose. We have designed purely for vehicles for too long.
We must rebalance our roads to safely accommodate vulnerable users
Spent some time at the polluted Dodder River in Tallaght

with my pal

this week.
We have to clean up our act, and fast. Environmentalism and biodiversity must be at heart of everything we do.🌳🐝🐸
