Micheál Martin went to a no-fee paying school and his father was a bus driver. Mary Lou went to an expensive fee-paying school in Dublin before going to Trinity.
BREAKING: ⚡️ Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had a heart attack. Therefore, he has not appeared at official events since mid-March,” writes Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Following President Biden’s successful “No Questions Asked” tour of Ireland where not a single significant trade deal was asked for nor signed between both nations, nor in fact any questions asked, the US is to bestow upon Ireland the honour of “full vassal state status”

There are instances where unvaccinated healthcare workers may have contributed to the introduction of the virus to certain settings, says Martin Cormican. People may have to be redeployed if they are unvaccinated in some cases, he says. | Read more:

There's a perfectly placed US Embassy in Dublin about a 5 minute drive from Government buildings and another 15 minutes to our President's residence. Trump Doonbeg is about as far away as is feasible on the island of Ireland!
Why has Simon Coveney never pushed for peace between Ukraine and Russia?
Instead of pouring petrol on the fire by laundering untold billions through one of the world’s most corrupt nations, why does Ireland not use her seat on the UN Security Council to facilitate peace talks?
From today, the majority of foreign university students cannot bring family members to the UK.
In 2024, we’re already delivering for the British people.
Is it my imagination, or has the number of racist "Irish" accounts increased dramatically recently? Reckon quite a lot are foreign ones stirring up trouble

Whatever one's opinion about Varadkar, that fact that he provides a bridge to this emerging superpower should not be underestimated. Relations between 🇮🇪 & 🇮🇳 have great potential for mutual benefit
"The student accommodation crisis is appalling" folks seem to overlap somehow with the "that new high-rise apartment complex isn't suitable for this area" crowd. Hmm.
Government has no plan to support struggling workers and families who face the 7th mortgage hike since July. Taoiseach happy to leave those workers and families struggle on.
I wish business journalists would stop using this debt per person stat. Ireland's current national debt will be paid back over a very long time by several generations yet to be born. Each of us doesn't owe anyone €47,700

I know that I'm a humble lecturer in financial economics, so I'd like Rod to explain how a collapsing £ makes a domestic UK staycation more affordable.

Funniest thing about recent upsurge in "patriotic" white-nationalist "Irish" twitter accounts is that several use the 🇨🇮 rather than 🇮🇪 in their profiles. Must try harder, Sergei ;)

These are the brave

who have been killed in the line of duty. Colm Horkan, Tony Golden, Adrian Donohoe, etc.
Shame on Cosgrave for belittling their sacrifice.
In ~100 years, 89 Gardai have lost their lives while at work.
In 2020 alone, 20 people were killed in farm accidents in Ireland. And between 2011 and 2021 197 were killed.
Every life lost at work is an absolute tragedy.
Another reason not to vote for her for President. Michael D. will easily win, but it is concerning to see anti-vaxxer mentality creeping into Irish discourse. "Just asking questions" excuse is pathetic
If a Sinn Féin Councillor can build a €1 million house on the average industrial wage, no wonder they can pretend to build all those new social houses for under €200,000 each
New Sinn Féin TD Réada Cronin built €1million house without planning permission and sought help from FF minister Charlie McCreevy to be allowed to keep it
Certain Irish political parties clearly don't want the housing situation to improve (well, until after the next General Election when they mjght take over 🙄).
Time for a non-political housing agency to set clear strategies and a way forward?

Lots to unpack here. Pro- Russian, Pro-China, Pro-authoritarian dictatorship TDs. PANA are, by their own admission, affiliated with the World Peace Council, an organisation set up and controlled by the Russian government.
What's a Sinn Fein TD doing sharing a platform with them?
One reason all Irish Americans should support Joe Biden is that he's aware of the importance of the Good Friday Agreement and should be an ally of Ireland. Trump couldn't give a damn about Ireland other than his overrated golf resort (which he's often thought was in the UK!)
We can’t allow the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland to become a casualty of Brexit.
Any trade deal between the U.S. and U.K. must be contingent upon respect for the Agreement and preventing the return of a hard border. Period.
The Oireachtas has rejected calls to return to Leinster House presently, with Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl stating it would result in an “unacceptable risk to all in our parliamentary community”

Not sure if being the architect of "today's British economy" would necessarily be seen as a positive (also his latter-day climate denialism was abhorrent)
Irish society views Covid in catastrophic terms compared to others. Today's

Which makes the xenophobia & racism espoused by Irish-American politicians like Kevin McCarthy, Pence, etc. all the more unpleasant. Ireland, meanwhile, is moving in a secular, liberal direction.

Some nasty Anglophobic comments on the consultative forum / Louise Richardson issue. Anybody comparing UK-Ireland relations to Russia-Baltic States really hasn't a clue.

A well-deserved standing ovation for all 3 actors after last evening's "Grief is the thing with feathers" in the Black Box. Galway audiences appreciate good acting & Cillian Murphy was superb in the leading role.
Overwhelming majority of economists in Ireland are employees of publicly funded institutions such as universities, the Central Bank of Ireland, the ESRI, etc. We don’t spin for consultancy fees.
Most public “economists” in Ireland are really just spin doctors for the interest groups who pay their salaries or consultancy fees
They are coin operated. They’ll parrot whatever you pay for. And will even parrot for free, in the hope of being paid. Don’t be fooled.
With case numbers spiralling, PCR testing overwhelmed, and people concerned about schools reopening soon, you might expect the Minister of Health to say some reassuring words on the nation's media.
Then again...
So Sweden, the country that didn't lockdown, is on the cusp of the worst recession in the EU as well as a sharp property correction.
The idea that there was a trade-off between health & economic policies was always a false narrative

Good news for teachers, awkward news for parents: Taoiseach confirms that polling in the local and European elections (and the Limerick mayoral election) (and the Unified Patent Court referendum) is Friday 7 June. Another schoolday gone
