@emilynussbaum Such a great category, if the song referred to is neither a real song nor the song itself. Which can be complicated - in "Hold On," when Tom Waits sings "inside your head there's a record playing a song called 'Hold On'" - does he mean *this song or another song called "Hold On"?

Can't begrudge Bonnie anything, but it does have me bracing myself a bit for what's to come.

We got the Grammys at their best last night, except for the lack of good rap and political bravery. We got Taylor Swift, unfortunately, at her worst: "Standing in the center," as Joni Mitchell once sang, "giving to get something."

I would find it *really crushing if Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley ever broke up. The intimacy of their love songs feels so brave for two people in a band together.
