My new product,
@customerping
, is beginning to work.
The AI will listen to online audiences and send you a ping when people discuss the problems that your business could solve.
Here are the pings on my phone when I apply the AI to find customers for itself: 🔥

Today I realized that there are two very different attitudes for makers here on Twitter:
-
@dagorenouf
never talks about his product
-
@levelsio
always talks about his products
What is better?
🔥 Solopreneurs, let me do some marketing for YOUR product!
👀 Post a link to your product below, and I will make a video about it on my YouTube channel.
🎥 The video will show exactly how I'd create a marketing model for your business.
As a builder, I was reluctant of doing marketing.
Then, I discovered it is storytelling, not advertising.
Now, I like it and do it.
And I even created a SaaS to help other introverts do it!
Der SaaS owners,
I notice a bad new pattern: When I'm logged in to your app, I cannot browse your homepage any more because you redirect to your app, automatically.
What if I want to read the landing page again, to learn about features or pricing? I have to delete the cookies!
It's OFFICIAL: I got my 10th monthly paying customer for GetTheAudience, today! What a feeling of validation for me as the founder of a young and growing SaaS! 😀👍
Thank you all so much for your support – it wouldn't have happened without you! 🙏🎉
How can you possibly develop a product alone, in a shed?
- no feedback
- only from your own, eternal wisdom
- hoping to meet what your future customers need
You NEED an audience around you to embed yourself in.
Holy smokes, what a difference!
I was so envious about
@arvidkahl
's well-lit videos that I took an hour today to experiment and figure it out.
Here's the comparison: before and after! 😄

Wow, today is Day
#100
of my startup!
To celebrate this with y’all, I will fix a bug in public and share the experience in this Twitter thread, here.

rocks!

Developing an audience is the most important, difficult, and totally rewarding thing to do for a founder or indie creator.
a /thread/ about
#AudienceDevelopment
Every founder or indie creator has the same problem:
- Who is the audience for whom I build?
- What is their currently most significant problem?
- Can I build something that solves that problem and sell the solution to them?
Making a SaaS is a complicated project.
Starting from zero with the next SaaS feels awkward.
Today, I'm preparing for the November launch of SaaS
#6
.
That feels good!

😀 Introverted founders, creators, and makers:
🔥 Buckle up and prepare for a ride into marketing land!
👉 This new app will help you to market your product, whether you love marketing or not.

Recently, when
@robfitz
was a guest on my podcast, he gave some fantastic advice on this. Maybe,
@IndieHackers
now lacks one of those 3 building blocks that he mentioned (see excerpt below).
For the full podcast episode, go to
Dear SaaS owners,
if you *co-create* a new feature with people *in* your audience, *for* your audience, then...
...the chance that *they buy* will increase a lot!
My SaaS runs fine now.
The value proposition is quite clear.
New people sign up for it, and a fraction of them convert to a paid plan.
Time to start w/ systematic content marketing now.
I realize that many of you, my dear followers, are dev solopreneurs just as I am,
And I remember
@arvidkahl
once wrote you should start to build for your existing audience.
So, dear devs, have you got any problems that I can solve by building something for you? 🤔
Try to “get” an audience before you get an audience.
- Find out what’s important for them.
- Find out who is important among them.
- Find out when is the best time to join the conversation.
Then: Engage.
went live today.
It scans the internet and pings you when people talk about the problem you solve.
You can sign up and create your own customer radar station at
Next up: I'll make a landing page for it.

Today, I was slowed down in my writing. I had to learn that for my "building a new startup in public" diary, the Atomic Essay is not the best choice when used in isolation.
Read what formats I'll use instead!

Today, I learned that there is a thing called "social self-esteem".
It means: What do you think of yourself as soon as somebody else is present?
I think of myself pretty high ... until someone else is there!
Entrepreneurs need high social self-esteem, so let's figure this out!
The best cure against impostor syndrome?
Have a look at what you achieved...
⏲️ last week
📅 last month
🎂 last year
Ask yourself: "Holy smokes, would you have thought that you could achieve all this in such a short time?! 🤯"
@PrasoonPratham
When learning CSS, I struggled with:
1) specificity
2) flex having 2 axises
3) realizing that everything has a width but not everything has a height.
Things became a lot easier when I understood these three points.
Yeah yeah yeah,
@CustomerPing
got the first customer today, with a monthly subscription!
Folks, I am newly born SaaS owner and sooo excited about it! 😄🚀

Here's to the business success of my dear users!

Well, okay, it’s a choice where you want to spend your time. Chasing type errors is not the way I want it.
Does Turbo 8 still provide typings, at least?

Mental model for marketing:
🔸 Products have features.
🔸 Features have benefits.
🔸 Benefits occur in positive, transformational stories.
🔸 Stories can be told to your customers and users.
And BOOM: You're doing marketing!
Now, wasn't that easy?
Something has changed. 😎 It must have something to do with the fact that I attended
@dagorenouf
's Twitter course!
The numbers speak about just one tweet that I made yesterday.
Just one! 🤯🧨🚀

I am thinking about publishing a short video course called “The Audience Development Game for Entrepreneurs”.
- Finding out whom you want to serve
- Where/how to find those people
- Finding out what they care about
- Reaching out to them
Ask for more topics, please!
Oops, I'm getting "a little help from my friends". 😄
So happy that suddenly hundreds of people appear on the 2Quiet2Market website and blog.
Compare this week with the 3 weeks before: 👀🔥
Thanks to

Except… let me think about that:
For a dating app, 4 months would be good, right?
You solve the customer’s problem in 4 months, then they churn, in pairs! 🤣
I need a little help from my audience here: 👋
What is the correct English name for little mythical creatures that help you get your work done?
Something like gremlins or gnomes that do good instead of harm.
In German this would be a “Heinzelmännchen” 😀
Today, something great happened:
• Normally, I post something positive about my progress.
• Today, I posted something that didn't work (my user onboarding), and...
• BOOM: so many people showed up to help me solve this.
Yay,
#buildinpublic
rocks!
My wife had a cool birthday present for me today: An Adasion monocular telescope with a small tripod and a camera adapter for smartphones.
Of course, I couldn't wait to make this small video about the birds in our garden, from a safe distance:
Wooo, the first person signed up for a Basic monthly plan, a free trial! They live 1000s of miles away — I love the feeling of connectedness across the world.
Think outside the box when it comes to positioning your product. Don't be afraid to challenge the norms and showcase your unique perspective and value proposition.
The "Jobs to be done" framework is an excellent way to think about your audience and what they are trying to achieve. If you know the jobs, you can define what job your product or service needs to do for them.

@EmmaBostian
Recently heard this from a writer:
“Creativity works like a tap: You open it, and the stale water comes out, followed by the fresh water that you want. There is no shortcut to get the fresh water immediately.”
Folks, if you use my SaaS...
- please don't cancel so fast
- take your full 14 days of trial
- ask me first, I'm always happy to help you out
- sometimes I can even fix things in less than a week, if necessary!
I’m building my next startup
@twolveIt
as a classic website instead of a single page app. No React, no NextJS.
Feels refreshingly simple.
I use Express and Mustache this time.

An idea that did not work for me as an entrepreneur:
- build one week
- do marketing the next week
- build one week
- do m...
My brain doesn't work like this. It oscillates much more quickly. I need to use my energies differently.
Understanding a new audience is like visiting a party.
- What are these people talking about?
- Who are the greatest people to spend the party with?
- With whom do you want to talk deepert, after the first party?
Use GetTheAudience to find out.
This causes mixed feelings:
A) my first ever customer paid their second monthly SaaS fee, today, so grateful! 😀👋
B) a trial customer cancelled today, too! 😥😭😬
When Covid hit, it was the perfect spark for me to start building. It all began with
@arvidkahl
's "Zero to sold" that came out in June 2020. At the end of October 2020, I started building GetTheAudience because I thought: "Hey, all entrepreneurs need an audience, let's help!"
Yes, I always get the best ideas at 6am in bed. I stay there until the stream stops around 7:30am , then get up and start to work on those ideas that survive my critical thinking.
When you’re working 100 hour weeks it’s easy to get lost in your own tracks.
Sometimes the most productive thing you could do is to take a step back.
🏃🏽♂️ Go for a run
🍿 Watch a movie
📚 Read a book
Do something other than work! Your body and mind will thank you.
Coding for
@CustomerPing
, my latest AI product, today.
It has started to listen to the market for me and shows posts that my audience made when they need help.
Nice! Getting possible customers while I sleep, without doing anything!
