Would you be able to walk away from your 6 year old indie hacker product? 🥹
@nathanjpowellUX
did just that and then disappeared from the internet for 3 years.
On
@CodeConquerPod
we talk about UX, cofounding, his new productized service and much more!

And there are a lot of health ramifications as well!
Did you know?
That cutting out caffeine.
Can help decrease your will to live by up to 90%?
You know what really grinds my gears?
There's a BILLION domains that are bought by somebody and then NEVER used 🤦♂️
Every time I try to find a great domain, literally everything I try is already taken. 😔
But when you visit the site, there's nothing. 😠
How do we solve this?
Can we stop calling the following things therapy?
Going to the gym is not therapy
Eating nice food is not therapy
Going for a run is not therapy
Playing with a puppy is not therapy
Stop. Comparing. Those. Things. To. Therapy.
It devalues the importance of real therapy.
So ... Pinecone is insanely expensive. And I have no idea how Vector databases work. I have a AWS startup program grant of $1000.
How can I setup a Vector database for cheap? It's just going to be there to save like 10 documents or so maximum.
@housecor
This means absolutely nothing without taking a look at the content of the PRs.
And then it still means nothing because you don’t know what other tasks those „low performing“ developers have.
Are we looking at a „low performer“ that is a Team lead and might be in meetings all
For anyone struggling with motivation right now. You're not alone 😪
This is what I look like a lot right now. Feeling unmotivated from work, it's hard to keep up with indie hacking.
So if you have a hard week, take some time off.
Indie hacking's still here next week.
Thank you for every last one of you guys 🥹
It's amazing to be part of the
#buildinpublic
community and see what all of you are building and what we can achieve by helping each other out 💪
Keep building my dudes and dudettes 🚀
Has anyone ever tried just stopping with the domain buying.
And instead used subdomains of their main domain?
I’m legit thinking about just doing
newproduct(dot)icebearlabs(dot)com
For new product ideas.
Thoughts? Any experience?
I'm struggling a lot with motivating myself to do indie hacking on the side.
On top of a full time freelance gig it's just very exhausting, I have to admit.
Thinking about how to change my commitments in 2024 to have more time for indie hacking...
How do you guys do it?

I think we're so used to companies making it incredibly difficult to cancel that we don't even look for a simple cancel button anymore.
Web(dot)de and GMX are two big players in Germany that do this with their "premium" subscription for example.
Most telecoms do so too.
I just discovered a new hobby that I might pick up 😄
I started lock picking 🔐 pretty fun, something with your hands and requires patience and feeling.
Love doing stuff like this, might even come in handy when I forget my keys one day 😅
I'm overthinking the whole subscription payment thing right now...
But I'm having trouble finding business ideas that can work with one time payments, apart from obvious ones like "course" or "boilerplate"
Do you know a Saas that charges one time fees?
In November 2022 I started engaging on here, finding friends, learning about indie hacking.
Today we're half way to 1000 followers 🚀
I'm growing slowly, but I can only say that the
#buildinpublic
community is amazing and this year has been a great time with you guys 😎
Working on a new micro Saas idea ✨
I will build a podcast audio repurposing platform
#buildinpublic
style 👷
I'm comitted to launch this as MVP before the end of the year 🚀
That's one of two achievements I want to unlock in 2023 🚧
Happy holidays to all the indie hackers today 🌲
As a little present, I’m releasing the next episode of
@CodeConquerPod
early, it’s coming out today 🚀
I talked to
@d4m1n
about Shipixen, all he accomplished in 2023 and about our
#buildinpublic
community ♥️
Check it out👇
I have one of those weeks where I think it would be better for my mental health to just stop doing indie hacking and all related projects.
I'm mentally exhausted, too many open things, too many projects.
Think I'm gonna give myself some room to breathe for a while.
@vponamariov
To add to this, don't ever only make a checkbox clickable. Add a <label> to it and given it a htmlFor attribute, so it also reacts to a click.
I’m very proud of the new episode of
@CodeConquerPod
🎉
I’ve talked to
@arvidkahl
about mental health, what is was like to sell FeedbackPanda and how we’re dealing with stress in our lives 😌
Would love for you to take a listen 👂
@dobroslav_dev
The key is to design for mobile first and change things for desktop instead.
Keyword to research: Mobile First Development
I use Tailwind and the "standard" classes are always meant for mobile and I overwrite the things I want to overwrite with breakpoint classes.
Like this
An MVP needs to be clunky and unfinished?
I don't think so. And neither should you.
A well done MVP that has ONE feature that you refined for ONE customer is the goal 🚀
Then your MVP can be fast AND high quality as well ✨
And you? Quick and dirty or high quality?
@momentjs
@smashingmag
They way you handled this announcement is perfect. Given context, given alternatives and given an update on how the package itself will go forward. Thank you for this update.
Would anyone be interested in a "Reddit 101" guide?
As someone who has spent their entire 20s on Reddit I think I can give some guidelines on what you can and what you absolutely can't do on there.
Started creating the landing page for
@repodcasted
today.
We're on the road for the beta launch I had planned in December 🚀
I'm actually starting to get excited now.
#buildinpublic
I wrote an article about „how to build a prompt engine“ for your AI product.
We are using
@LangChainAI
for the orchestration of the process. If you want to take a look at Langchain check this out 👇
I'm currently low profile on socials, sorry. I took two weeks of vacation and still felt terrible. Currently not doing much except paid work. And that's okay. Need some time to just exist.
Next episode of
@CodeConquerPod
still coming out next Friday.
Love you all ❤️
Are you thinking of building your indie hacker or
#buildinpublic
project on AWS?
Just fyi, you can apply for startup funding at AWS, and it was very very easy to get a $1000 grant. Took like 10 mins.
There's a $5000 grant for larger startups as well 🚀

Aaaand we are live 🚀
A new episode of „Code & Conquer“ has dropped
This time I interviewed
@Dima_heyqq
and
@Matt_heyqq
about their indie hacker projects OscarStories and HeyQQ
Little update, sitting on my desk and editing the episode, like I promised to do :D
Something coming your way in about 2-3 hours

I love how we invented the beaming device back in the 30s. Now I can just *snap* myself home so I can sit at the dinner table at 17:01. So awesome.
Oh wait...
Last week I talked to
@uibreakfast
about building an email marketing platform, how to transition through the phases of a startup and how to make churned users come back 👀
A brand new episode of
@CodeConquerPod
out now ⭐️

Man it's really really hard to create a podcast. I just spent an entire evening writing a script and then trying to get a decent recording of said script.
BUT the podcast journey has officially begun 🥳 Episode 0 is done.
Now we need our guest for Episode 1 👀
My biggest learnings from interviewing Jonathan Wilke
Lesson
#1
:
💡 Start with solving your own problem. Building something that scratches your own itch means at least one happy user - yourself! Find a solution for a problem you face daily.

Got confirmation that my freelance contract is prolonged until June 2024. So the finances for Q1 and Q2 are now in place :D
I'll drop to 4d/week starting Janaury so expect to see more building from me again :D
Just got another 5 star rating for my UX Engineer Review product on Gumroad 🤩
We're still sitting at solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ with 5 ratings 😎
Thank you
@SebastianM6L
🙂
When commenting / talking on X I have this rule that I follow pretty well the last year.
Write the post, read it.
Does it sound negative?
Change it or delete it.
Makes for a better audience and better conversation.
Basically avoid beef 😅
We have reached 200 plays on the podcast! 🥳
28 different people have listened to an episode the last 7 days.
We're still very very small, but I just love that people actually listen to what I'm creating 🥹
Thank you everyone 🍀
I'm launching a new product today 🚀
You can now hire me as your personal UX/UI/usability reviewer for your web app 🥳
As a launch gift the first 3 customers get the review FOR FREE
The next 3 after that for $10
Regular price: $100

New episode of „Code & Conquer“ is live 🚀
I talked to
@philkellr
about his indie hacker project . We also talked a lot about you guys 👀 the
#buildinpublic
community.

@IAmPascio
Do you guys ever get tired of posting the same tweet every three days? I have like 10 Notion accounts posting the same 20 websites every day to promote their own template. It's very tiring.
My Code & Conquer indie hacker podcast is kinda starting to get bigger 😄
Two episodes are done 🚀
Three episodes scheduled now 🤯
Three more people are getting ready for scheduling ⏳
Feels like a real project now 😎
Do you guys have a favorite FEMALE indie hacker? 👩
My podcast "Code & Conquer" is looking for new guests and our female quota is VERY bad right now.
Would love to do a few episodes with female indie hackers to show both sides a little more 🥳
@BenLesh
Yeah, if you aren't the most perfect employer in every other department, 20% increase is going to make pretty much everybody leave. At the end, everyone needs to pay the bills and "free drinks" will keep nobody. Match the pay or wish your employee good luck.
Created a skript using
@LangChainAI
that gets a transcript of a podcast episode and some info about the guests.
I get back: The biggest learnings, tweets about the key points and 5 blog posts based on the episode information 🚀

The first EVER "Code & Conquer" Podcast Episode is now live 🚀
I talked to
@Core_Anton
about his indie hacker business , about artifical intelligence, indie hacker food and owning the means of production 😅
Listen to it now:
I just got the confirmation that I own the trademark for the name of
@repodcasted
now.
The German government sent me a really nice certificate of ownership 🤩
And to once actually say something nice about the government, the process was easy AND fast. Incredible.
@CoderAmrin
My rule is that if the code is straight forward, no comments. Just clutters the code.
If the function is complex and full of business logic, I'll try to make it as simple as possible and add comments to every step of the function.
What's the difference between a freelancer and calling your 1 person contracting business an "agency"? 😅
In Germany, you'd pay more taxes with no benefits.
View from my new hood 😄
I’m planning to use a lot of my weekends to calm down, do less and enjoy the ocean and the breeze 🌊
Finally living with my girlfriend, no more driving across the country every two weeks 😎
Can we still have fun on the internet while still building our cool indie hacker projects? 🎉
Are we still sleeping on video content? 🎥
How does TikTok work? 🤔

When you reach out to a big creator to ask for an interview and have to wait for their answer.
And you ask yourself why did you even try getting that person on.
And impostor syndrome is whispering in your ear.
😅
Omg I completely missed that the new episode of
@CodeConquerPod
airs today 😅 Was busy with other stuff.
I talked to
@louispereira
about AudiopenAI, it’s a great episode about no code tools and a great use of AI as a tool :)
Check it out below 👇
It's so cool seeing the analytics for the "Code & Conquer" Podcast. We're not seeing a hockey stick, yet, but it's cool to see that people ARE listening.
I can also see in the analytics that people return for new published episodes.
So cool 🥹 Thank you guys
Twitter experience is very very dependent on who you follow and who you interact with.
For
#buildinpublic
there is an amazing list by
@philkellr
called "Authentic Builders".
I always feel like I have the best time, when I'm reading that list instead of "For you"
List below 👇
In case you missed it, there is an epic episode of
@CodeConquerPod
waiting for your ears 👂
@arvidkahl
and I talked at length about relationships, mental health and World of Warcraft 🎉
I’m very proud of the new episode of

Anyone out there who has started planning for 2024?
Our move is now done 🏠 We're now officially ONE household instead of two.
My freelance contract is running out.
Commit to indie hacking in 2024? Reduce freelance time?
Still thinking... 🤔
I can't wait for DALL-E 3 to be available via API 🤩
The results are really great.
I've been waiting for this to use for blogpost headers and such FOREVER, but Midjourney just doesn't come out with an API.
OpenAI might now overtake them.
Too slow, Midjourney.
I’m struggling a little with motivation right now my friends.
I’m going to take a mini break and be away til Friday, when the new podcast episode releases 👀
Have a good week you all 🚀
Had a delightful podcast session with
@thiswillblossom
yesterday 🚀
We're gonna experiment with the video format for a while now and we'll also test Lera's app
@clip_wing
to see if we can make amazing TikTok/YT/Insta shorts from the podcast ^^
Feeling a little like a Boomer 😅
I was well on my way to my first full 100 followers today.
I removed around 15 as bots and obvious fake accounts and dropped back to 82.
I’d rather have 82 real people following me than break a record.
We will get their in time.
Good to have you here 🚀
This thread is amazing, thank you all for your congrats.
A few people have asked for advice about how to grow in the
#buildinpublic
space.
Would anyone be interested in a semi-scripted, semi-improvised YouTube video on the matter? I'm not a big video-person, but I'll manage😅
Thank you for every last one of you guys 🥹
It's amazing to be part of the
#buildinpublic
community and see what all of you are building and what we can achieve by helping each other out 💪

2023 Recap when I’m back at home.
My focus for 2024: Health
I have not taken care of myself and it shows (and feels).
So in 2024, I will take up sports again, will try to eat cleaner and take care of myself mentally as well.
You only have one body and mind.
Want to start a podcast but don't know how?
You have a limited budget but still want to start?
I made a short video for
@T_Zahil
that might help others as well so here it is 🚀

I don't get it how this is not their
#1

priority. It's a money printing press. If they think they can't handle the traffic, get VC funding. They'd run their door in.
My podcast
@codeconquerpod
has officially reached over 1000 plays 🥳
In January I started this project and now we have 11 published episodes, more to come.
Great to see a passion project come to fruition and be liked by people ❤️

⏱ Being disciplined and consistent in your work compounds over time. Even tiny efforts daily build momentum. Skip days and you lose all gains. Put in the small effort daily.
