Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. So pleased to say I passed my viva today. Thank you so much to the fabulous examiners and my supervisors who have put up with me for all that time! Enjoying a glass of bubbles in the sun ☀️ 🥂
It is a myth that Band 8 is just senior managers. I would suggest most qualified ACPs are 8a and so 2022 pay rise will be 2.6% and nowhere near the headline figure (or inflation). Also no increment for 5yrs despite the development that takes place during this time.
After some of the recent disappointing imaging of ambulance services and PHEM recently, perhaps we could use
#IWD2023
to show that it's not just for men!

My dad just posted this photo on FB of him carving the turkey in the Gilbert Bain Hospital on Christmas Day. Early 1980s when all the local doctors used to pop in with their families 😂🎄
Paramedics, ACPs and anybody interested in major trauma. Join me for an informal evening session about my professional doctoral journey and the research I did on identifying patients with major trauma. Great CPD for the research pillar!
@paramedicsuk
Last night I left the ED after my final clinical shift before I go on secondment. It was busy. I hope things improve across the whole system soon. I’m really going to miss the team though.
Today is my 20-year NHS anniversary. Lots of changes in the organisation (sadly not all for the better).I’ve been an ambulance technician, ambulance paramedic, operational supervisor, ECP, HEMS, ACP and consultant paramedic. Not sure I can do another 20 to retirement age though!
That’s it. Independent prescribing portfolio handed in. I often thought this wouldn’t happen but thanks to the work of
@ParamedicsUK
this is now a possibility for Advanced Paramedics.
@hughlaurie
Not just nurses but paramedics, therapists, porters, healthcare support workers, scientists and many, many more who risked their own health and made personal sacrifices to deal with Covid and continue to provide high quality care to all patients.
Well, that's a wrap! Last day in the
@NHSEngland
Centre for AHP Education and Transformation. What an amazing team, it has been a joy to work with you all. So excited for the next adventure, moving back to Scotland and taking up a role with the

paramedic team😊
We are recruiting for trainee adult ACPs in ED. Open to suitably qualified and experienced paramedics, nurses, physios and pharmacists. 1 day per week for education. Supervision from Consultants and credentialed ACPs as part of an established ACP team
Been up to see Lou who is a Major Trauma ACP. She looks after patients from their arrival in ED until discharge, sometimes weeks or even months later. She’s just qualified as a Paramedic Prescriber. Happy

We've had our garage broken in to and all the bikes stolen. Many of them are not worth much but are our means of getting to work at the hospital or are sentimental (I built my old race bike so it's unique but old fashioned). Please share to make them too hot to handle. Thanks
I saw some patronising messages on here yesterday about how paramedics can't prescribe CDs as they are too dangerous for us. All paramedics from registration can administer morphine under exemption and paramedics can use CDs such as ketamine and midazolam on PGD without being 1/2
Perso hood provided, plenty of appropriate PPE, vaccinated, CPD funding, new team members recruited and then this lands on the doorstep with an extra day’s leave and a free coffee ☕️ Thanks! So happy I work at
@UHSFT
@charity_shc
This is absolutely how I remember it. I won’t ever get over bellowing down a hands free phone whilst in level 3 PPE telling someone their husband was going to die but sorry they couldn’t come to ED to see them. I would have loved to have had a drink with colleagues but couldn’t.
It was what we were asked to do.
It was fucking horrible.
But we did it. In the knowledge we were all in it together.
No cake.
No parties.
No mutual soothing.
No party hats and quizzes and cheese and wine.
Just head down, keep moving, for the greater good.

Important report out on paramedic leadership. Recommends rotational placements and experience in other settings outside of the ambulance service to develop as leaders. Also reinforces the need for paramedics to have access to clinical supervision.
Having to call an ambulance is stressful enough. This is why I don't agree with the 'fly on the wall' ambulance programmes. It puts people in distressing situations in a place where they then have to decide whether to consent to their situation being broadcast for entetainment.
Got blue lit to hospital with toddler overnight, paramedics arrive with a producer from the bbc, she asks if she can film, I said no, then inexplicably thought she would get my refusal more if I claimed to be a producer, so I then pretended for 35 minutes that I work for Sky News
Amazing. Just having a clear out and found my old paramedic manual. As the 6th edition of the
@ParamedicsUK
curriculum is being written, it’s incredible to compare it with what we covered in 2005.
Are you a Paeds or dual-credentialed ACP? We’re looking for an experienced ACP to join our team in the Emergency Dept. You will be the first ACP in the Children’s ED with an opportunity to develop the practitioner service in paediatrics across all pillars.
We have an advert out to recruit 4 trainee ACPs in our Emergency Department (Major Trauma Centre). 20% non-clinical time to support education as part of the HEE Wessex EC-ACP programme. Please note, there is an error on the email. Should end

Radio and TV presenters, how hard would it be to use inclusive language like ‘healthcare professionals’ instead of ‘doctors and nurses’ when you refer to the NHS workforce?
@BBCRadio4
#todayprogramme
It’s not just doctors and nurses who are needed. Lots of AHPs (radiographers, paramedics, OTs, physio for example) pharmacists,support staff and admin all contribute to emergency care.
@RCollEM
ACPs come from a variety of professional backgrounds
We need to act now to protect the most vulnerable, and precious part of the healthcare system, the Emergency Medical System.
It’s time for change and to reset emergency care.

@ParamedicsUK
Why should paramedics be shackled to ambulance services? No other healthcare professionals are expected to work for one organisation for their whole career. Paramedics have more to offer as they develop.
Advanced practitioners don't have to be nurses. AHPs have a lot to offer in this space and are often forgotten. How do we improve visibility and understanding of what we bring to the roles?
@KateBurkeNHS
Exactly. So often it is a lack of basic, simple things that gnaw away at job satisfaction. It shouldn’t be too much to ask to have a safe and secure way to travel to work, somewhere to keep your things, a clean place to get changed and to be paid correctly and on time.
Interested in why NHS Scotland has lots of ‘Advanced Nurse Practitioner’ roles advertised but I didn’t see a single ‘Advanced Clinical Practitioner’ job. Is this an over sight or have they just not realised the benefit of AHPs in advanced practice?
@NHSScotland
@Kmacjohnstone79
So thankful to the unknown donor who is doing this in the middle of a pandemic. Thank you whoever you are and also to anyone who has donated or is on the register. PS (those are not Kip’s giant glasses, they’re my brothers he’s playing with!!)
We don't know who you are, but somewhere in Germany a wonderful young man is donating some of his bone marrow today that, after a spell in a freezer, is going to give this beautiful boy a whole new immune system.
We can never thank you enough.

I’m wearing FFP3 for all patient contact in ED at the moment and this is supported by my trust. I can’t believe ambulance staff aren’t being offered the same protection when they are working in much more confined spaces.
@DHSCgovuk
Why have paramedics, working as Advanced Clinical Practitioners in Urgent, Emergency and Primary Care been excluded? We undertake the same role, with the same training, as our nursing colleagues.
Bit of a detour to Swindon on the way home.

prescribers. Who do you think delivers most opiate analgesia in the pre-hospital environment? Also, we can prescribe e.g. muscle relaxants, propofol and plenty of other dangerous medicines within scope of practice so it's not a safety or competence issue - it's about the law.
ACPs - fancy a change of scenery? We have vacancies to join an established team of ACPs in ED. We’re a major trauma centre. Lots of educational opportunities and a friendly rota (1 in 4 weekends and 20 nights per year)
