We took the battery out of my 96yo grandmother's car. We keep telling her we're having someone to come fix it, but we are not. There is a note under the hood just in case she somehow manages to get a mechanic out there. Including a venmo so we can pay him to walk away.

We had MRAPs in Afghanistan (because they're IED-resistant) But we never used them because they're *so* alienating to everyone around you they undercut our mission. So we rode dirt bikes and drove Hiluxes. We took the extra risk, far more risk than any cops, to be more human.

Culturally the SEAL Teams have changed very little. The real story of Operation REDWINGS (deeply-fictionalized in "Lone Survivor") is essentially this story all over again. Lots of good people died because SEAL egos wrote a check their badassery could not cash.
