@HistPhilosophy Good book, however it is a real shame that Ibn Rushd and Maimonides weren't included (because they were not part of the "Islamicate geography"), less justifiable is the total omission of Ibn Taymiyyah (especially considering obscure figures like "Al-Masuidi" are given space)

« (…) Furthermore, there is a tendency in orientalist scholarship to assume a Greek origin for most philosophical discussions in the Islamic tradition, even when there is no positive evidence for it.» So,in their attempts to ‘purify’ their belief, salafism embraced orientalism.

Furthermore, Salafiyyah doesn’t require knowledge of Greek philosophy or anything like that. What we need to know about our ideology is accessible through the Quran and Sunnah alone. Islam is supposed to be accessible to the masses, after all. Proud to be a Salafi.

The whole “biomass” argument affirms something I’ve always said. Intellectuals are idiots with inflated egos; they think they’re superior to the toiling masses and the mujāhidīn and thus have the right to criticise them, when in reality they’re not worth their shoes.

sick of the ‘balance is key’ discourse and the false dichotomies. These 2 movements are fundamentally different from each other, one’s at least a thousand years old and silsila based, one’s a recent reformist movement.

Salafism seems overly pedantic and restrictive until you witness the excesses of Sufism. Sufism seems overly relaxed and permissive until you witness the excesses of Salafism. It’s best to sympathize with both Sunni thought-streams. The tension between them is healthy.

She went out to get some wheat and, upon return, found her husband and children were killed - under rubble. This is Gaza. This is what Western politicians have enabled.

There’s a level of super importance given to scientists by people (and funding lol) that feeds their gigantic ego, meanwhile ‘all’ they do is formulate hypothesis, quantify and test for results. Philosophy is far more difficult & (arguably) meaningful an activity, not even close.

@LongshotIbrahim The bulk of the Rashidun armies consisted of people they would probably look down upon i.e Bedouin and Rural tribes.

I’ve never been ashamed to be this powerless as a muslim before, Allah. No doubt in my mind that we are the most humiliated people on earth.

Always found this objection so strange. (Need of) Proof doesn’t have to arise from doubt necessarily When Sayyiduna Ibrahim (AS) asked Allah most High how can He resurrect the dead, I’m not sure he was in doubt about the fact of the matter

The very apparent anthropomorphism of some variations of the athari creed is very disturbing. On what grounds can they claim therefore that ‘Isa (peace be upon him) is not God ?

The day I realized that most people don’t conceive of Islam as a total devotion and absolute submission to God (and, by necessity, His sacred law) and all that it implies about soteriology was the day I stopped taking some objections seriously.

One has to wonder whether he would get away with this using not Muslim jargon but, you know, the actual words. "Counter to my previous opinion I *now* believe apostates should be executed". Sick fuck. Will report, but the obscurantist wording will probably fly past...

Ash'ari occasionalism is stupidity and has major theological implications. There's a reason why Ibn Rushd said about their belief regarding a related issue that no one would believe such a thing nor be convinced of its validity unless they were indoctrinated into thinking so.
