This little man just cycled nearly 11km to Salthill and back.4yo. We completely underestimate the ability of children at times. This stretch of path was however the only place where he was truly safe. How many kids would cycle to school if we had the facilities? @GalwayCycling

Really innovative approach to zebra crossings in a small town in Spain. The crossing lights up if someone is waiting to cross or crossing as a car approaches. Doesn't light up if there's no approaching car, or no pedestrian waiting. No street clutter or constant flashing beacons

With all the talk of Salthill I keep thinking of this image & how it was rejected as being too radical. A cycleway along the Prom &a transformed public realm would be incredible for a village that has lost its way in recent years & is in dire need of urban renewal #iBikeSalthill

This is ridiculous. Same every week along this road, when hundreds of kids are at soccer. I know there's no intent from the driver, & such parking is normalisd, but this is selfish, inconsiderate, & dangerous. We need to change our attitudes rapidly or ramp up enforcement.

I say this as someone who owns one of these gargantuan machines, yes, ban them. Tax them out of existence. They have no place on our roads. Electrification has made them heavier and more dangerous. Motor tax needs to be recalculated based on weight, not emissions.

There's been plans since 2016 to put a segregated cyclelane on both sides of the Western Distributor Road. There's ample space to do this, no impact on traffic flow or parking, & with a new design scheme from the NTA, it could be done in a weekend. Time to act #SafeRoutesToSchool

These gates need to be removed as the rationale for their retention no longer exists. Council have committed to removing 3 (out of 75!) on a trial basis, but this needs to be accelerated. Inaccessible for wheelchair users, those with buggies, mobility devices, cargo bikes &trikes

Well done to the student council @Colaiste_Einde for pushing for these necessary facilities for our school. Thanks to @GalwayCityCo for the funding! Next goal, safe segregated cycle lanes linking our students homes to their schools, shops and playing pitches.

It's a manifesto written in consultation with cycling groups and organisations all over the country, including @cycle_bus . A community led policy. "As a general rule, if the cycle network is not safe for a child to cycle on their own, then it fails to meet the required standard"

@kleyden7 @GalwayCityCo @GalwayCycling Hi Kevin, are those gates installed at every access point on every bridge the length of the canal from Dominick Street to the University? They're not on any plans for this scheme. Certainly constitute an unnecessary hazard from that photo. I'll check with the team now

Pedestrian underpass at Briarhill was under water again this week. 2 feet deep in the middle. Despite regular cleaning & maintenance by the council team, there's more serious issues to be resolved if it's to be safe & accessible for all. I've made representations to the council

At the council meeting this evening, we were presented with plans for a new cemetery on the Dublin road in Mervue, which is to be build on an existing soccer pitch. I was one of only two councillors who voted against progressing with this project for two reasons (1/4)

I've asked the Active Travel Team @GalwayCityCo to replace some of the bollards on the entrance to @KnocknacarraNS . Accidents & vandalism have led to significant gaps in the segregation. School restarts in a few weeks. Essential we make it safe before then #SafeRoutesToSchool

Great contributions from Limerick @CyclingBusLmk and Galway Cycle @cycle_bus buses about their experiences cycling to school. The less said about Willie ODeas contribution about how "dangerous cycle lanes are to residents" the better..๐Ÿ™„

Good to see this highlighted in a great piece of reporting in the City Tribune by @Barnacles09 . We urgently need red light cameras, particularly outside our schools, and more enforcement of our existing and new speed limits.

@CladdaghSwan @GalwayCycling I didn't think a children's bike was a vehicle. What about kids scooters? Are you suggesting we ban them from the prom unless they are piloted by law abiding and responsible citizens? What about dogs on a leash? Should they pass a competency test?
