Gardai shouldn’t be forced to be dealing with riots between nearly 100 drunk teenagers. The guards have families too and should be utilised for more important duties in these tough times. 👮♂️ 👮♂️👮♂️
€90 for a ticket and now €7 for a match programme. Looking forward to

allocation of funding from HQ. We will have a floodlite stadium in Westside in no time or does grassroots extend outside the M50...?
I will be supporting Monday’s motion to trial a temporary cycle lane along the coast side of the Salthill Prom to Grattan. I believe this will be a valuable amenity for all Galway residents. If passed, funding is available to progress this project.
Salthill back up and open just in time for Summer 2021. A great amenity for Galwegians as restrictions start to be lifted. Hopefully the last we will see of them bollards. ☀️☀️☀️

Bike repair and maintenance stands have been installed in 4 locations around Galway City.
- Eyre Square
- Blackrock
- Westside Library
- Lough Atalia
This is an initial trial and more locations will be considered after the trial period if successful. 🚲🚲🚲
These would be a great addition to the streets of Galway. The Westend, Cross Street and Quay Street would be ideal locations. They’d transform the evening economy in Galway and could be used during the winter months.
1/2 Parklets will be introduced to Galway City in the coming weeks. These will provide additional temporary outdoor seating as well as cycle parking. They will convert curbside parking spaces into vibrant community spaces and will be a welcome addition to the city centre.
Here is a graphic of Parkets being installed by Dublin City Council this week. These will be similar to the proposed structures to be rolled out here in Galway. These will be installed in parking spaces on pedestrianised streets. More to follow once full confirmation is received.
Deeply honoured and humbled to have been elected Mayor of Galway City last Friday. Thanks to the Members for unanimously supporting my nomination.
Some of the key areas I’ll be focusing on are:
✅Housing
✅Transport
✅Economic Development & Tourism
✅Sport & Communities
Disgraceful behaviour this. It should not and cannot be accepted. Choosing the easy target of an elected politician to push a homophobic agenda. Boundaries continue to be pushed and it’s very sad to see. This needs to be called out and stopped. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
It’s easy for Sinn Féin politicians to hand back their pay increases when the party has millions of euros of cash lying around!! Wonder where it came from?!?🤔
Well said by
@LeoVaradkar
Que the faceless keyboard warriors with their agendas. Open & honest discussion is always welcome but some of the carry on from the opposition on the far left has been ridiculous. Glad to see it called out for what it really is.
The

journey continues….
A proud weekend for the Maroon and White. Another massive win. This one will be hard matched. Galway win on penalties.
Roll on the semi final.

What a sight over Lough Derg in Portumna Co. Galway. I remember a similar flock of birds used to fly over Moylough, Co. Galway nearly 20 years ago. If only we had camera phones back then 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Thanks to everyone for the amazing support last Friday. Being elected on the first count with 1,282 first preference votes is a massive honour and endorsement by the people of Galway City Central. I’m looking forward to continuing my work over the next 5 years.

A man I am proud to call a teammate and a good friend. A brilliant servant to Galway football for nearly 15 years and no doubt he will have plenty to offer the county in the future. Enjoy the retirement

There are suggestions that
@Galway_Races
will be used as one of the Government’s pilot events this summer. This would be a great boost as we slowly return to more normal times.
URDF funding will be announced for Galway on Friday. Funding is expected for the development of a pedestrian & cycle bridge on the piers of the old Galway-Clifden railway line.This will be a fantastic addition to Galway and will also be the landing point of the proposed Greenway.
FREEDOM DAY - No better man than

to capture the mood of the nation this morning. His photography was refreshing over the past 2 years throughout the pandemic. 📸🌅📸
Here are 4 Galway panelists who were forced to watch yesterday’s game from outside the grounds. Surely if they are allowed to train they should be allowed into grounds. Sport has offered us all so much in recent weeks.ALL players deserve better and hopefully this can be addressed
15 ringbuoys were stolen over the last 24 hours from along the edge of the Corrib in Galway. This is very disappointing to read. These have now been replaced by Volunteers and the Council. Please contact the local Garda Station if you see anyone interfering with the buoys.
Floodlights in Pearse Stadium took a big step forward after the Elected Members of Galway City Council unanimously supported the provision of funding to assist in delivering this project.A number of other projects were supported in a budget of €113m for 2023.

⚠️⚠️STORM UPDATE⚠️⚠️
Salthill, The Spanish Arch and The Galway Docks are badly flooded. High tide is not forecasted until 23:00 so this will get far worse for homes and businesses in the areas affected.
A full emergency response has been issued by The Chief Executive of GCC.
It is being reported that the U20s final between Galway and Dublin may be played as a curtain raiser to the senior football final in December. This will be really welcome news for players and management and hopefully it can be fully confirmed in the coming days.
@officialgaa
This cycle route would certainly be worth exploring further. This option would facilitate parked cars along the hotel side of the Prom. Central Government funding should be available if consensus can be achieved.
Delighted to confirm a contractor has now been appointed to install lighting along the Prom in Salthill from Blackrock to the Caravan Park and along the cycle and walkway at South Park. This €300k investment is being delivered through the government July Stimulus package.
Today
@LeoVaradkar
steps aside after 3 years in office. He leaves after overseeing one of our country’s biggest threats in Covid-19. His 75% satisfaction rating is concrete evidence that he has the confidence of our country & I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.
Very sorry to hear of the passing of John O Mahony. He brought so much joy to Galway & inspired a generation of young sportspeople. He also served Mayo with distinction in both Houses of the Oireachtas. Sincere sympathies to Geraldine and all his family and friends. RIP 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great to see the Connemara to Galway Greenway move a step closer with the announcement of a further €5.15m investment. It will come in along the old Clifden railway track and finish at the Dyke Rd.This project would be a game changer for the region and one that I hope progresses
It would be nice to get daily numbers of vaccinations also. This would keep the vaccination programming to account and would also provide a small bit of hope in these difficult days/weeks.

THANK YOU JP
JP McManus, his wife Noreen, and their children today donated €1m to all 32 counties for distribution to clubs across the Gaelic Games family.

Works have commenced on the creation of a Park and Stride from Cappagh Road to Silverstrand through Barna Woods.
Amenities like this have become even more popular in these times and the investment is welcome.
Millions of euros worth of vital medical equipment is being dispatched tonight in China and will arrive in Dublin tomorrow morning. No stone will be left unturned in efforts to control this pandemic.
I’ve tabled a motion for Monday for
@GalwayCityCo
to install communication boards in all playgrounds in the City. Where children are non-verbal or have communication difficulties, the boards would be of huge benefit to them and would really help make playgrounds more inclusive.

2/2 The Westend and the Latin Quarter will be considered for pedestrianisation as part of phase 2 of mobility plan. With the proper cooperation this could transform these areas of our city.
After 14 years playing with Galway, I’d like to announce my retirement from inter-county football. A huge thank you to my parents and family, my partner Sarah-Jane, friends and teammates who supported me over the years. It was a huge honour to play football for my county. Thanks.
