Okay I might as well actually try a little promotion
Hi I'm Alex Weiss, sometimes I write for my friend David Watkin's webcomic about C-lister superheroes and ELDRITCH HORRORS
Art by Maxy3210, comic written by me and David and text segment written by me
Can't remember if I posted this before but one of my greatest fascinations is the 1998 Batmans Villains Secret Files issue
You might look at this cover and go, "hey, I recognise some of Batman's most famous villains but who's the newspaper guy?"
my ideal approach to Batman's skills in relation to other characters is that he's like, the 6th-20th best dude in the world at every thing he's trained in, but there's at least a few dudes who can do any given thing he does better
Warner Bros will get a $30M tax write-off from shelving ‘COYOTE VS ACME’.
The film was completed with very good test scores. Warner Bros reportedly thought it wasn’t worth the cost to release or to sell to other buyers.

The answer to that is... The Answer, and your first reaction is "wow, never heard of him, seems weirdly obscure to put on the cover, was he in like one story and that's what his bio is?" and the answer is, no, he's not in ANY stories. This bio is it. This is all that exists.
The bio is written like every other bio in the book where they recount the stories those characters are known for, but The Answer was never in anything. He exists purely as a bio. I tried asking Alan Grant, who wrote the issue, about it once, and his daughter Sheila kindly asked.
Ultimates off to a good start, really enjoy the idea of Ultimate Hank getting the whole "THIS is the hero you should have been!" schpiel from Tony only to go "oh wow oh... oh that's worse than what I am now I think"
Ted Grant's a better hand-to-hand fighter, Detective Chimp's a better detective, Ted Kord and Michael Holt are better tech experts, Mister Miracle's a better escapologist, etc.
@RedLReviews
dude's original origin is "guy who was working on an electric line when lightning hit him which made him not die and become electric instead for some reason", not a lotta people super invested in that one
The most unhinged Batman moment that I've never seen anyone mention is when he threatened to frame a guy for robbery so that he'd go to prison while slasher-smiling him and providing a visual aid for what might happen to an effeminate twink in prison
"In the bad timeline you're just a bug exterminator, but in the GOOD timeline you suffer a psychotic episode so bad it leads to spousal abuse, the creation of a genocidal mega-robot, rejection by all your peers and ultimately being fused together with the evil robot"
"Oh."
You think it won't be profitable enough to release that making it a tax write-off is better? Great! Let everyone watch it for free since you apparently don't value it anyway
@biggestjoel
People seem to think that I personally should wish suffering upon every individual Palestinian because their government maintains a ban on homosexuality including the ones who don't support that, or are children, or are themselves LGBT which is pretty weird I think
Taskmaster: Willing to go up against Hyperion knowing Hyperion will absolutely obliterate him before he gets the win
Also Taskmaster: Not willing to even attempt starting shit with Moon Knight again
@disco_socialist
I mean, I might be wrong but I think the point of the tweet is that in the UK we straight up don't have mass air conditioning like the US does so anyone in the US going "how do we live without AC" would have a bad time of it
@meatloaf_master
@JeremyMonjo
He obviously has enough industry connections to get into contact with celebrities easily and winds up being friendly with a lot of em I guess, that's how we got five billion Death Stranding celeb cameos
@ComicGirlAshley
I'll allow Blackagar Boltagon because it's always acceptable to make fun of that, and Star Lord because it's less "silly name" and more "you're saying that name like I should have heard of you before" but the rest are irritating
A lot of people seem to not be into Momoko UXM for not "feeling X-Men enough" but I do like the swing it's taking, there's really no iteration of the X-Men (original UXM included) that doesn't have the same basic premise so it's cool to see an actual alternate take
1610: The X-Men are a group of mutants led by Professor X to defend a world that hates and fears them.
6160: The X-Men are a group of mutant teenage girls who band together to confront their fears and hatreds and embrace their identities in a nation that opposes individuality.
@eliciadonze
I have to admit curiosity about how you draw such a well-detailed and obviously carefully studied drawing and then forget who the subject was lmao

Serious question, if a child (let's say 12 y/o for example) is beaten by one or both of their parents, do you think all communication between the child and medical/social services about it should be directed through the abusive parents?
rewatching the first three/four seasons of Fringe bcs I never finished it and I don't know if I noticed the alternate universe DC comics covers before that's so fucking cool
@TheeDCstan
I think it was a pretty big misstep to have (one of?) your first main goes at an enby superhero be... this weird attempt at reclaiming Internet insults that comes off badly
But at the same time, this book doesn't exist and it's dumb it still comes up
@herong
>I regret that I have to share these intimate details
Actually, you didn't, none of this addresses the actual issue, which was that you aired out the life problems of an 18 y/o in your care on Twitter then complained about the "emotional labour" of that and washing a girls' hair
@creativemammal
@FlorenceHRScott
not for nothing but I think I trust the person teaching and doing a PhD thesis in History a little more on how they see history than you
I feel bad for Zeb Wells because he is actually a good writer, and it's pretty apparent that Nick Lowe thrives off of mass negative reactions for shock marketing purposes, so it really feels like Wells is just a sacrificial goat in the equation
saw someone complain about not liking X-Men comics because no-one "would want these [Sentinels] wastes of taxpayer money running around, turning on humanity every time" and like man imagine the US govt funding things in the name of national security that goes bad for them later
@uzionmain
@andykhouri
I'm not saying that some people aren't using that as an excuse, but the archival argument has ALWAYS been the most sound one in a society where art is increasingly controlled by corporate desires
oh also an interesting example of Jason Todd actualy being the one who restrains Bruce from killing the Jo- holy shit wait a second how has no-one ever brought this up??? I was initially just thinking it was funny that Jason restrained him but this is actually wild
the only way Minus One could have been more anti-nationalism is if one of the characters looked at the camera in the eye and went "nationalism is bad"
Which almost does happen a couple of times
Last year it was RRR…this year it’s Godzilla Minus One….which Asian film with nationalist politics will white men in Brooklyn harass us for not worshipping next year?
Think it's impressive that certain comics piracy sites will actively now have more fucking functionality than Amazon comics now that they're folding Comixology
@RedLReviews
Like fair play to some of these- Web Weaver, Spider-UK, Night-Spider, more minor players in the Spideyverse greater stuff- but Miles? Gwen? C'mon
@DC_moments
possibly the funniest part was people going "hey wait what about-" and then realising basically no New 52 characters were married including even Arthur and Mera, who I think were about the only relationship left at all
@AdamBlumenau
I don't want to sound overly dismissive but like, does it matter that much? I've never once in my life played a game or otherwise interacted with media where I went "oh yeah generic evil bandit enemies who are ok to kill in this fictional context, I am now super into cops IRL"
@FleurashDesign
@batman_btw
@DutchFett
On the social media feeds you see him posting as "JJJInSpace" (as opposed to his dad, who posts as JJJAtHome or JJJOnEarth or something) and he's posting about stuff happening on the station (like saying he's glad he can hear his dad's podcast even in space)
This one's blowing up so I'm gonna do a little shameless self-promo
I'm Alex Weiss and I write comics, you can read my first eight page comic for free on my writing account right here, more comics to follow soon
One of the most insane things to me about the "Ed Piskor did nothing wrong" idea is that he threw this in his note, where he tells a woman that her feelings on him drawing her naked don't matter to him and he'd do it anyway
He shouldn't be dead, but the guy was still at fault
@LazlosGhost
This is an excellent example of why trying to guage the overall popularity of... anything from TV shows to political views via social media isn't actually a great barometer
@GailSimone
More bisexual guys who are just like, bisexual instead of either being bisexual because they're totally sexually open to anything including demons etc (Constantine) or just because they're crazy so everything is on the table (Deadpool)
@ccatsbat
It probably helps the realism factor that Rodriguez clearly used an image of Stefania Ferrario as a reference
Which is a pretty inspired choice of person to use as inspiration
@DC_moments
at first I thought N52 Lobo was meant to be a spoof take on 2000s/2010s edgy cool twink villains (like MCU Loki) in the same way Lobo was a pastiche of 90s tough guy character but he's like... just completely played straight for his whole solo and it sucked
@indianloonie
Yeah big shock, the actual stuff he said has way more nuance than the Daily Mail want to offer you in a headline
Not that I totally agree with him but this is a far cry from "CANCEL CULTURE IS OUT OF CONTROL!!!"
@SIM0NJESS
they had to scrap the original for copyright reasons and Molina already mentioned the existence of this variation, though I'm not clear on who made the choice of how to edit the image between Molina and editorial
@MForstater
"It is excluding parents (mainly mothers) who don’t want this."
Any given action by a pub. institution can do this
This is the same line of reasoning right-wingers give for "I should be able to opt my kid out of Sex Ed. lessons esp. ones that talk about gay people"
As you know, Jason Todd's death was decided via a phone poll in 1988.
In 2014, Dennis O'Neil talked about a lawyer who voted 85 times by programming his Macintosh to dial the killing number every few minutes.
"Robin Dies" defeated "Robin Lives" by a slim margin of 72 votes.
@GunnerDobbins
also how was he "Kid Flash" if there was no Flash to be Kid Flash in relation to
unless Jay exists in that universe and I just didn't remember
@uzionmain
@andykhouri
Piracy is the only method of media preservation and distribution where corporate interference can't fuck with anything so it's de facto also the only one where the interests of the viewer are catered to completely
Also very glad that Across The Spider-Verse understands a fundamental truth that has historically been underused by Spider-Man media writers of all stripes: The Spot is fucking awesome
