Each Christmas, I have a grown up conversation with my class about presents. If I spend £60, for example, they would each only get a small (probably plastic) gift worth £2. So we vote. They can have these gifts or I could donate the money to charity.

400+ pupils evacuated. Most were eating their lunch in the hall, some were playing outside whilst the others were in lessons. All because I burnt my bagel 😳 I could have thrown up I was that mortified.

They always pick the charity. They then spend the afternoon researching and choosing one. They then pitch their choose in front of the class and we all vote. More often than not, it’s @wwf_uk and the children choose the animal they believe needs the most help. Here’s last year’s.

@frankkilopezzz I do agree with this however, parents will continue to buy gifts no matter how much we protest! I know if/when I ever have a child, I will do the same 😄 I want to show the children it’s not about present giving though which is why I’d prefer to give to charity and help others 🙂

@DeputyGrocott I get the chn to stack their books open on the page they’ve just worked on and then bring their table piles to me. I print all my work out for the week. Leave books which don’t need to be marked until the following week.

@MrsGormanEYFS I have a strict routine. Be ready for bed by 21:00 then in by 22:00 at the latest. Hot shower before bed with lavender then take a hot drink with me (no caffeine). Put brown noise on, salt lamp on and read. Always make my bed in the morning so it’s nice to get back into 🥰

@the_VHT Mine are similar. I spent the first weeks pulling them up on everything but this week, I’m celebrating the small successes and over celebrating those who never do wrong but are rarely praised due to the focus on poor behaviour. I have noticed a positive change from alll.

@missgeog92 I know it feels like the opposite but mark through break/lunch. Mark with the kids where possible. Think about what needs to be marked for the next day or if it could wait for another day. Have a cut off time and if you’re not finished by then, do it in the morning.

@PrimaryCoHead I can only comment on the second part as I am that person who very often takes a lunch in, uses the staff room cutlery and then in a rush to get back to class, put it all into my own lunch bag without thinking 🫣 My mismatch cutlery drawer at home can support this!

@ballater6 @WelliesIn I love cluedo! You can get different versions too. Not board games but Dobble and Ghost Blitz are great game. My family and I even continue playing them after my niece and nephew have gone to bed 😅

Planning a short unit (1-2 weeks) around The Island where chn rewrite the ending with a focus on dialogue. I’m going to use @moffat_andrew No Outsiders lesson to introduce it but wondered if anybody had any amazing ways of teaching dialogue they could share? @Team_English1 🤞🏼

Due to snow, we made a hard, last minute decision to move our church production to the school hall today. This sadly meant only one lot of parents could come. However, just as we finished, I looked up and saw my own parents and gran. I cried like a baby and ran to cuddle them. 🤍

@brassoteach I think there’s a difference between ‘wow’ lessons and ‘hook’ lessons. Some can be over the top for no reason with no impact. However, I do think a ‘hook’ at the start of a new topic can stimulate the children and grab their interest in something they’ve never heard of before.
