Bro it's legit wild that anyone thinks the Chicago Police Department is reformable. I went into the district 9 precinct to complain that their vehicles were parked in the bike land.
THE desk sarg to me to "go away or he'd gave someone tail me to give me tickets"
@iago_caliban
@AmberleeLane
Hey friend! He was in the dunkin, not part of his official duty, and against cpd vehicle use policy.
Also even if it was in the line of duty, is taking a photo a crime?
For all of the somewhat cringe bits that this was. This being cancelled is honestly a symbol of what is wrong in the city. This is what we should want in a city, big public community building events outside. Instead the city made it difficult.
Lol. There was a CPD officer parked in a bus stop downtown during my lunch break while he was eating lunch.
I tried to call 311 who directed me to dispatch who laughed and hung up when I called them.
Lol imagine thinking you can reform this.
Legit the thing with the NASCAR stuff I don't get is like the city is bending over backwards for this but like the Tayloe Swift show was literally bigger economically for the city....
I still am waiting more than 2 years for COPA to interview the officer who pulled me over, forcibly searched me and detained me, for flipping him off for parking in the bike lane while getting a snack.
The officer has yet to come in for an interview.
Another day another officer parked illegally. When asked why he was parked he said he thought he could "park anywhere he wanted to" and told me to contact the alderman if I had a problem with that.
@SigchoFor25
Like I was super professional.
I went in and was like "hey can yall move the wagons blocking the lane. They're unattended and creating an unsafe situation"
Home told me "no they are police vehicles they can go wherever they want" and if I problem I can" call the alderman. "
I filled out a
@ChicagoCOPA
report over a year ago, after a Chicago Police Officer, pulled me over for flipping him off as he was sitting in the bike lane , detained me, searched me, and held me, threatening me with a felony.
He has never shown up to COPA so the case is stuck.
@angelamorales18
The ticket is a retaliatory ticket for not having a back light on my bike.
Back lights are only required at night, which this wasn't. The ticket is very clearly for taking the photo.
After days of silence, Chicago Teachers Union president Stacey Davis Gates confirms she sends her son to a *private* high school.
She defends decision in interview w/
@SSKedreporter
: “Our neighborhoods have basically been robbed of everything”
The explicitness is really funny.
@JaymalGreen
endorses Vallas a day after he gets paid $28k. Like I think this was a thing that we all knew happened, but to see how explicit it was, is both expected and hilarious.
@_ericpowers
Yeah! This has been a recurring issue, and I brought it up to the local beat meeting, and the beat officers asked me to take photos of it so they could address it.
Also for the bike lane uprising so we have data to know where stuff like this happens (though not this case)
@caseyskater
He got me for "not having a rear reflector on my bike" they aren't required during the day! (my back light was in my pocket so I could charge It)
@mjs_DC
Like I want to just be 100% clear how fucked this is. In North Carolina there are 13 US Hosue seats. In 2018 the Democrats achieved a little more than half the vote. For this half the vote they recieved. 3/13 seats.
Legit, with Johnson's CDOT demolishing southside homes and businesses, and letting the CTA continue its rapid decline, mixed with his support of giving billions in public dollars to a stadium project, I think it might be time to stop considering him our ally.
So I filled out a FOIA related to CPD unconstitutionaly doing stop and frisk bag searches going onto the Lakefront trail this summer, and according to the FOIA officer CPD has been stonewalling the records requests for the last month and hasn't given him access.
This is an especially heinous tweet coming from an alder who did nothing when a 3 year old was taken from this world because of an illegally parked vehicle in a bike lane. To make fun of that is ugly and horrific.
Man, sitting at Jackalope and listening to these landlords talk about a building makes me hate landlords even more.
Homie is here talking about how much he hates his Section 8 housing tenants, and how much he intentionally makes their shit more difficult.
Genuinely insane that Dorval Carter remains in charge of the CTA. We have seen little to no reliability improvements, continued modal shift away from transportation as the CTA deteriorates in front of our eyes, yet Brandon Johnson continues to fail to lead.
“But Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) said the Clark Street program was scuttled after pushback from Johnson’s office and the Chicago Department of Transportation, which signs off on the permits. He told neighbors in a July newsletter the permit would not be renewed this year.”
@SlicinHammer
@NotNateTaylor
It's part of a larger cadence about "in the early morning" since it is often sung at a faster tempo to run in time to. So it goes through various assassinated figures, and then the line "in the early morning"
@JTrea81
@bellachu10
Educating doesn't do anything when we design roads for fast speed without paying attention.
Also is your answer to "education is the lowest effective intervention" just "it worked well cause we can read and write"?
When
@ChicagoDOT
has so thoroughly failed that residents put up signs begging drivers to please be careful at an intersection where there has been 2 major accidents in the last year
This contract guts police accountability, it allows police to disable body camera footage during key conversations, and lets officers who have evidence later found against them to get off. I'm very sad that several theoretically progressive alders voted for this.
Anyone know who this guy is? He assaulted me on Milwaukee. He punched me a few times and threw my phone. Before he hit me he yelled at me and showed me his bar card but I wasn't paying attention to his name I just read "cook county"
Any idea where to look?
@JTrea81
@bellachu10
Additionally mandating that traffic engineers focus on pedestrian and other user safety in their education would have an even greater effect on road safety, teaching them to prioritize roads that are hard to speed on.
@mjs_DC
In dissent, Justice Kagan emphasizes the importance of the issue: "the partisan gerrymanders here debased and dishonored our democracy, turning upside-down the core American idea that all governmental power derives from the people."
Hey yall! We are now at the over 2 year Anniversary of me filing my complaint with
@ChicagoCOPA
after a police officer forcibly detained me and IDed me for complaining he was parked in the bike lane.
Copa has yet to complete its investigation.
@mjs_DC
OR have a look as wisconsin's state elections from 2018. The Democrats took 53% of the vote, and increased their vote share by 7.5%. For this they gained 1 seat, and currently control 33% of the seats.
@AnnieOPopoAgie
What is my hobby here? I was asked by the beat meeting folks to let them know of areas where cops were regularly causing issues by parking illegally. I did that and got a ticket.
Like, this reaks of "I got mine" and makes it so much harder to defend the CTU and CPS . Like not only is this not good ethically its also a fucking nightmare optically.
@paulpope2
@chicagobikesox
@whitesox
Because bikes take up very little space and have essentially 0 effect on roadway wear and tear.
We pay taxes like everyone else and take up the same amount of wear/tear and space as those who walk to the games!
I love being a
#bikeboi
in chicago during the summer. Today I dipped into the loop, rode the trail down to back of the yards for work, looped into west gage park, back into pilsen, and tonight I'm going to bike up to logan! So many cool neighborhoods to experience on two wheels
There are so many things wrong with the Nascar deal. Depriving Chicago of our most central park for a significant chunk of the summer is not the answer. I'll be there I hope y'all come join me.
@ScarryResource
We still have the most cops per capita in the US
The answer isn't more cops especially when those in leadership and the ones training the officers are the ones we have now.
I've seen the role leadership and training plays in the army and I'm sure the effect is the same here
I passed a cyclist who was taking a photo of an illegally parked car on Halstead, we met up at the light and she talked to me about the
@bikelaneuprise
app, and shared some safety tips!
Looking out for each other is what makes the bike community so lit. We keep us safe!
He didn't have lights on was not in vehicle or responding to an emergency. He just chose to park illegally.
As excited as I am about the protected lanes on blue island it seems the officers nearby done care
@ChicagoCOPA
This got far larger than I thought it would. To be clear, this wasn't a major incident, this was a minor violation of 1st and 4th amendment rights
CPD has done far bigger things to far more people, my story was just meant to highlight how broken our police review system is
Legit as CTU is fighting to shut down school choice programs (as I think they should) their head is sending her kid to a private school. This takes almost all air out of that fight
Fuck capitalism man. Like I don't really know how you get ahead. I work for an okay non profit salary, and trying to save up for anything is impossible. Just when I think I am getting a tiny bit saved, my phone breaks or my bike starts to have issues.
A longtime program introducing students to the art of debate is looking to the public for help after Chicago Public Schools dramatically scaled back its funding this year.
@thewayoftheid
reports
Well..... it seems like for now at least my pretty state bike is out of commission.
It seems like a guy I took a photo of being parked in the bike took out his frustration on my bike by throwing it into the road in the 5 minutes I was in a store. (While attached to a rack)
Also just to be clear. The way this story broke is also kinda fucked, including weird stuff around semi-doxing children + sketchy journalism backed by problematic folks.
That being said it doesn't change that we can both call out unethical journalism and movement hypocrisy
Cool. I went into the station. The desk Sargent said "He could be responding to an emergency and that police officers have exceptions to parking laws". There is literally a legal parking spot 10 feet away.
@Chicago_Police
The tragedy that occurred last night off Broadway makes me think about the other intersections that I regularly find scary. I hope that one day I or someone else doesn't fall victim to those intersections.
