My friend Saidu Sesay, who owns Sabanoh Uniforms at 1022 W. Leland, had his store looted last night. He's a hardworking immigrant from Sierra Leone who loves Uptown. If you need a uniform, please give him some love back. He's one that makes Uptown the special place that it is.

@ChiLastRespondr My mom had hospice care due to her end-stage emphysema. Morphine stopped her from feeling like she was suffocating so that she could relax and be more present with us during her last days. Hospice allowed her to have a good death, and we're so thankful that could happen for her.

I'm pushing hard for an app that will allow any CTA passenger to quietly and safely report criminal activity. The technology is already here; other cities across the country are already utilizing it. Now is the time for us to make use of it!

@irvineghost20 For the protesters who are employed, it disguises their identity should someone dox them. As a gay man who stood up plenty of times to fight for LGBTQI rights at the risk of losing my job, hiding my identity would have defeated the purpose of the protest.

Tonight, Richard and I celebrate our 30th anniversary, and we do what we often do. I had a neighborhood meeting at 6pm and he has one at 7. But that's why I was initially attracted to him... he believed in the importance of giving back to others. I love him more now than in 1991.

It was 37 years ago today that I moved to Chicago to attend seminary to become a Catholic priest. This year, I'll be retiring as a Chicago alderman. Life does take some interesting twists and turns! Happy New Year!!!!

Delighted to see Starbucks go back into the Eagles Building on the 3800 block of N. Broadway. The terra cotta eagles on the building look better now than when it was first done in 1911.

Today, I ran into a guy who's been shot 9 different times and has had scores of arrests. On a couple of occasions I've taken him places to get help. He told me he's now clean and sober and has a full-time job. I told him I was so proud of him!

A shoutout to 46th Ward Streets & San Superintendent Nick Slywczuk who blocked a driver of a stolen truck which led to the man's arrest. The guy hit many cars on the 4400-4500 blocks of N. Broadway in the process. Nick's truck was also hit when he blocked him.

This Saturday is the 6th anniversary of our civil union.... one of many anniversaries of our almost 27 years together. I married him for the little things that he does; like picking up all the litter on our street because that’s what good neighbors do.

A very special shout out to Commander Marc Buslic for his 39 years of service. His very last meeting as a commander was a one-hour public safety meeting in Uptown (that turned into 2 1/2 hours). He will go down in history as one of my favorite commanders. @ChicagoCAPS19

Kudos to the 46th Ward staff and @ChicagoCAPS19 officers today. An elderly man walked into our office as we were closing up and he appeared disoriented and lost. Working together, we were able to find out where he lived and got him back to his nursing home.

30 years ago, I was a case manager helping people with HIV get needed resources to keep alive, and co-founded a homeless shelter for people with HIV because at the time, no nursing home would take them. Reflecting on World AIDS Day, we've come a long ways but there's more to do.

@CWBChicago I let the drug dealers know that I want the best for them, and I give them referrals for help to give them employment. However, drug dealing leads to violence, AND I WON'T HAVE IT. The answer is not black & white.... and I won't ever give up on efforts to help them.

I passed by @Sarahs_Circle new building at the corner of Leland & Sheridan the other day. It looks amazing, and I love how they preserved what Sarah's Circle refers to as their "Viking Mascot". I got $3.5M in TIF funds to help make this dream come true.
