I don’t enjoy wearing a mask, but I do it to protect my family, friends and coworkers. Although it may feel like an “inconvenience”, we must come together for the common good and follow the health precautions. With our loved ones at stake, this can’t become political.
#MaskUpUtah
I know that many of you are like me and don't enjoy wearing a mask, but it's what needs to be done to slow the spread of
#COVID19
. I commit to continuing to
#MaskUp
and do my part to protect those around me and slow the spread. Will you do the same?
As my daughter gets ready to start her junior year of high school, my heart breaks knowing many young Afghan women may never get the chance to do the same. Utah remains a place of refuge and we stand willing to help in any way we can.
For many of us, the Great Salt Lake isn’t something to which we give much thought. While I understood the shrinking lake was a problem, I failed to realize just how dire the situation was, and how drastically this change could impact life for Utahns.
Utah is one of two states that have less than 10% unemployment claims growth. Our diverse, strong economy continues to be the state’s backbone during this challenging time.

The Dixie name is beloved by many in our state, but negative perceptions present challenges to both students and employers. Today, these challenges were confirmed by business leaders from SkyWest and Vasion, two Washington County companies that employ hundreds of Utahns. (1/3)
I just spoke with the amazing scientists at the US Geological Survey who have evaluated this morning’s earthquake. The rumors of a larger quake being expected are false.
Saving the Great Salt Lake and implementing greater water conservation statewide is no small task.
However, if we’re smart; if we work together; and if we listen to one another, we can both grow and protect our amazing natural resources.
Utah's Great Salt Lake has been in decline and is now one-third the size it was in the 1980s. A new scientific report out this month warns that, without dramatic and immediate cuts in water consumption, the lake could vanish in just five years.
I believe now is the right time to make this change. Waiting any longer would do a great disservice to students and employers and unnecessarily prolong the divisive debate within our communities. (3/3)

My top priority as Speaker right now is to address the water needs in the state, particularly the Great Salt Lake. The reason is, it’s going to dramatically affect the quality of life of Utahns if we don’t fix it.

Many schools are welcoming students back today. Please remember that everyone is doing their best to deal with these unideal circumstances. I want to thank the many teachers, parents, and administrators who have worked tirelessly to ensure our students are safe and able to learn.
The Great Salt Lake is a vital natural resource that provides significant economic benefits, ecosystem services, and quality of life assets to the state. I am running a bill to help protect, preserve, and restore the lake.

Serving in the House and as Speaker has been the honor, privilege, and opportunity of a lifetime – and I don’t say that lightly. I am excited for my next chapter and will continue to ensure that Utah remains the best place to live, learn, work, and play.
I don’t say this lightly – This has been the most consequential and impactful session in the history of the state. I am proud of the work we've done and the things we've accomplished.

This is incredible! But now is not the time to let our foot off the gas. We need to conserve in years of plenty and continue doing all we can to protect and preserve Utah’s water resources.
What a difference 2 years & 1 never-ending winter can make.❄️The map on the right shows the latest

Couldn’t agree more with the Governor. I'm proud to live in a place where our communities accept refugees with open hearts, open homes, and open arms.

Utah was settled by refugees fleeing religious persecution. We will continue to open our arms to individuals and families fleeing persecution and war - and hoping for a better life.

Rich States, Poor States has ranked Utah as

in the nation for its economic outlook. Our strong fiscal and economic policies have allowed Utah to hold this spot for 13 years in a row.
As we enter the final week of the session, we have been reminded that our work is made possible because of the freedoms we enjoy. Freedoms that are under attack in Ukraine.
We are proud of Ukraine’s response. Our hearts are with them – we stand with them and pray for them. 🇺🇦
Today’s CBS This Morning segment on Utah’s support for refugees. I am proud to be from a state that has a collaborative spirit, a compassionate worldview, and a tendency to take the long view.

Utah's been named the state with the best economic outlook for the 16th year in a row.
We aren’t in the position we are today by chance. It’s taken years and years of planning, and making smart, generational investments that have led us to this success.
The Great Salt Lake is more than just a lake – it is an irreplaceable asset that directly impacts our state’s environment, economy, and quality of life. I appreciate
@SenatorRomney
partnership and efforts to bring attention, funding, and policy change at the federal level.

"We firmly believe the Great Salt Lake can be saved... The next several years are a crucial window to turn the tide, though success requires us to remember that this is a marathon and not just a sprint."
Today, I want to thank the educators who have worked tirelessly to find the best way to teach students across our state. The last 6 months have been challenging and uncertain. Your willingness to adapt and your dedication to Utah's students has not gone unnoticed.
Today, I was joined on the dais by Sarah Frei, who tragically lost her legs after being hit by a drunk driver. Sarah's cheerful and optimistic outlook are inspiring. I am proud to cosponsor H.B. 47, nicknamed "Sarah's Bill," which will create stricter bail terms for DUI offenses.
Today's agenda: a field trip to the Great Salt Lake. I'm touring areas related to and dependent on the lake's survival and meeting with stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to discuss what we can do to ensure the lake is around for years to come.

26 states including Utah have published projected revenue shortfalls for FY21.
-9 states project budget cuts of 4-10%
-2 states between 10-20%
-4 states 20%+
Utah was projected to have cuts of 0-5%. Overall, we cut 1.7% of our budget, by far the lowest cut reported thus far.
We are all deeply saddened with the passing of Representative Lou Shurtliff. She was a beloved member of the House of Representatives but more importantly she was adored by her family and friends. We will miss her strong voice for children and passion for serving the community.
Congratulations to my son and all the Utah seniors for enduring this weird year. I am so proud of Zach and his accomplishments. His future is so bright.
As we move from the “red” to “orange” phase in the state's plan to get Utahns back to work, we must also move to the orange phase of our social aspects of life. This includes participation in non-contact high school sports where social distancing can still be maintained.

For years, our strategy to address a receding Great Salt Lake has been to hope for water levels to rise. We are now at a crisis point and if we want to find a solution, hope can no longer be our strategy—we must explore every option to get more water to the lake than ever before.
Utah’s Great Salt Lake is at the lowest levels ever recorded. My bill with

It's no surprise that Utah was the fastest-growing state in the nation over the last decade. Our beautiful landscapes, business and family-friendly policies, and endless opportunities are hard to beat. How we grow matters and we must manage this rapid growth strategically.
