@PatPorter76 @evanbmontgomery My book on defensive realism discussed offensive realism vs. offensive realists. A theorist is different from a policy pundit.

It's disheartening to see that many scholars, especially young scholars can't come to #ISA2023 due to visa or funding issues. There is no true Global IR without addressing these pressing issues. @AmitavAcharya @jandrewgrant @febarasuol @antje_wiener @BeheraChadha @ShipingTang

This practice of failing to acknowledge the history can only make most Chinese believe that the West is really against China's reunification no matter what. This is not very productive.

Why do almost all W. journalists, including those w/ experience, fail 2 mention that TW was in fact incorporated into CN in the 1880s n that both the ROC n PRC regard it as part of CN? Instead, they depict the PRC stance as if it came out of nowhere...

Has anybody done a model of Russia's possible using tactical nuke? I just did one. Though it is not possible to gauge the exact probability of Russia will use such a terrible weapon and break the post-WWII nuclear taboo, it does provide an range...it isn't pretty and gets scary.

No surprise there. I do not trust most studies with IVs (despite their heroic claims). The exclusion restriction is almost (or nearly) impossible to obtain.

Happy to share a new working paper w/ @Apoorva__Lal @lockhartm @zu_gary : We replicated >60 papers using IV strategies published in APSR, AJPS, and JOP and find troubling patterns of weaker IVs, wrong inference, and failure of exclusion restrictions.
