Once a month court is closed for an afternoon. Between this month and next, everyone in my office will spend those afternoons in the St Albans facility. Most prosecutors have never stepped foot in the buildings that they sentence people to spend years in. That needs to change.

something big in Michigan: right now, the incumbent prosecutors of the two biggest counties (Wayne/Detroit and Oakland) are trailing more progressive challengers in Dem primaries. And in the open race in Washtenaw Co. (that's Ann Arbor), the most progressive is still ahead.

My oldest friend & bday buddy has struggled w/ addiction 4 years, we lost touch, he was in & out of jail. Every year I send him a bday message on FB w/ no response. Today HE sent ME a message. He told me he's CLEAN, happy, proud of me, & wants to help. Best Birthday Present Ever!

Vermont needs to revisit past sentences doled out in the 80s and 90s under the guise of public safety. We know now that longer sentences do not mean safer communities, and we must act on that knowledge. Justice is about looking back as much as it’s about moving forward.
