I'm pissed. The PACT Act got 84 Senate votes in June to expand health care to veterans exposed to toxins during their service.
Now, Senate Republicans block it because they're mad Democrats have come to a historic agreement to combat climate change and lower Rx drug costs.
We’ve won some big victories for working families in Massachusetts and across the country, but there’s a lot more to do. So today I’m making it official: I’m running for re-election to keep up the fight.
It’s been a privilege to serve Vermonters in Congress for 16 years, and I’m honored to be your nominee for U.S. Senate.
There's so much on the line in November. Let's do this together.
Under Donald Trump, other countries lost respect for America and our standing on the world stage fell.
President Biden is restoring that respect and strengthening our bonds with global allies.
We pay the highest prescription drug prices IN THE WORLD. I am fighting to lower prices and big pharma is trying very hard to stop that effort. But I’m not going to stop until big pharma stops ripping us off. Prescriptions are useless if you can’t afford them.
More than a century after women gained the right to vote, Vermont remains the only state yet to send a woman to Congress. It's high time we end that distinction.
@beccabalintvt
is smart, warm, and effective. Let's elect her as Vermont's first congresswoman.

understands that now is the time to think big, not small. Peter has the knowledge and experience to fight for a government that works for all, not just the wealthy few. That's why I'm proud to endorse Peter today and look forward to serving with him in the Senate.
I was in the Capitol on January 6th when the mob tried to break down the door and when 147 of my colleagues voted to overturn a free and fair election. This year, 425 voter suppression bills have been introduced across the country.
We need to fight to protect our democracy.
If SCOTUS overturns Roe v Wade, the health of millions of people will be jeopardized. We know who this harms the most: people of color, people with disabilities, young people, immigrants, + those struggling to make ends meet.
The time to stand up for reproductive rights is now.
No threat is more existential than the climate crisis, which is why I co-sponsored the

@AOC
two years ago + again this week. We have the opportunity to invest in sustainable housing infrastructure + create good jobs that fight climate change. We CAN do this.
Workers are sick and tired of low pay, long hours, and unsafe working conditions.
They're taking back their power by unionizing in record numbers, and I'll be behind them every step of the way.
SO HIS NAME IS PETER WELCH. VERY COOL GUY. FIGHTING FOR A GREEN NEW DEAL, MEDICARE FOR ALL, HELPING VETERANS. BIG FAN OF SADE. FOUGHT HOUSING DISCRIMINATION IN CHICAGO, WAS A PUBLIC DEFENDER IN RURAL VERMONT, CURRENTLY CONGRESSMAN, RUNNING FOR SENATE. ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VO-
Peter's proud to be serving alongside these brilliant women, who embody leadership, excellence, and stunning compassion everyday.
The Progressive Caucus is so lucky to have these champions. Way to go!
@USProgressives
These women are my lifeline. I wouldn’t have been able to survive this first term without their sisterhood.
Thank you
@VanityFair
for giving us & 22 activists space to champion Black maternal health, housing, civil rights and economic justice for all.
Honored to have the endorsement of my friend

@WelchForVT
is going to be a great Senator.
Peter has served on the Intel Committee for years, and he's one of the best and brightest in the House.
Vermont knows Peter. And Peter knows Vermont.
And he's a superb choice to be Vermont's next Senator. He has my full support!

✅Green New Deal
✅Racial Justice

As working families struggle with skyrocketing gas prices, some of the biggest oil companies made $35 billion in profit in just the first three months of 2022.
It’s clear something’s wrong. Big Oil’s profiteering must end.
I am proud of the VT leaders who passed a law protecting reproductive rights and are at work to enshrine the right to choose in our state constitution.
This week SCOTUS made clear they won't protect reproductive rights.
It's on us. We won't go back, and we won't back down.
On this day in Vermont history: In 1968, Gov. Phil Hoff signs the State Billboard Act (10 V.S.A. § 495) into law, which prohibited billboards along Vermont's roadsides.
What's essential is that your vote be counted accurately and that the voters decide who our leaders are. That's really what's at stake here. Thank you once again for your time discussing this critically important topic,

While Vermont was one of the first states to ban slavery in most cases, our constitution still allows for three exceptions: those under 21, those who consent (or more likely coerced), and for the payment of debts and fines.
Vote YES on Prop 2 - no exceptions, no slavery.
Senate republicans voted against voting rights legislation for the third time today. Here is why: they think that when more people vote, they will lose.
No matter who you vote for, Democrats are fighting to protect your voting rights.
Thank you
@letamericavote
&
@stopbigmoney
for your endorsement. 12 years ago the Supreme Court decided the Citizens United case. Now, more than ever, we need to get big money out of politics, end corruption in Washington, and protect the right to vote. I'm ready to get to work.
I was elected to Congress the same time as Rep. Giffords and enjoyed working with her in the House. Watching her build a movement to end gun violence in America has been inspiring.
Proud to be endorsed by Giffords and determined to fight for gun violence prevention in the Senate.
Rep. Peter
@WelchForVT
has consistently advocated for commonsense gun safety legislation in the House and prioritizes governing over gridlock.
We need senators with the
#CourageToAct
, and we know he’ll always put Vermont communities first.
Seniors are paying too much for life-saving medication, so we did something about it.
Proud to work alongside
@amyklobuchar
and congressional Democrats on this historic law that will bring down prices at the pharmacy counter.
The victory allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices is thanks to so many, but especially
@WelchForVT
, who led our bill in the House. Thank you, Peter! And look forward to seeing you in the Senate!
The Senate must act to protect voting rights. Everything we are fighting for- medicare for all, a green new deal, help for working families, reproductive rights, racial justice- none of that can happen if we don’t stand up for our democracy.
Had an excellent chat with
@MollyJongFast
talking about this crucial Senate race in Vermont, the need for affordable health care, and more.
@FastPoliticsPod
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Happy the Senate confirmed Judge Jackson as the 116th Supreme Court Justice of the United States. She will serve us well.
Protecting the environment is at the heart of everything that we do in Vermont.
Proud of
@VermontGreenFC
for upholding our state's values as they prepare for their first season.
After intense pressure from around the country, Senate Republicans finally relented and voted to expand health care to veterans exposed to toxins overseas.
I'm glad they came to their senses, but next time they shouldn't need a do-over to give vets the benefits they deserve.
We cannot count on the most conservative supreme court in history to do the right thing and protect the constitutional right to an abortion. So we have to. The House passed, w/ my strong support, the Women’s Health Act. Now the Senate must do the same.
I'm running for U.S. Senate in Vermont.
In one month, we're going to win this race and keep the Senate blue. Will you retweet and follow to spread the message of this campaign?
Everything — voting rights, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, reproductive justice, racial and economic justice, will get filibustered and blocked by the Republicans in the Senate if we don't fight for our Democratic majority.

I never would have guessed that leaving college to organize against racial housing discrimination in Chicago would set me on a path to run for United States Senate.
I hope I've earned your vote in this election.
Well it looks like I scared Big Pharma. They're running frantic ads using my quote, "if we get price negotiation, it’s the beginning, it’s not the end."
They’re right to be nervous. I'm fighting to lower drug prices for Americans, not to boost Big Pharma’s profits.
Democrats are for climate action, Republicans are against it.
Dems are for reproductive rights, GOP is against them.
Dems are for lowering Rx prices, GOP is against it.
Dems are for expanding voting rights, GOP wants to restrict them.
The choice is clear.
As my staff and I prepare for the Senate's first full week in session, I'm so grateful to the many people who helped get us to this point. In ways big and small, we've all been working together in the fight for justice.
Thank you.
I am proud to vote for the
#equalityact
. America was founded on the principle of equality. It is our job, from one generation to the next, to make that real.
We are going to make sure our LGBTQ brothers and sisters have the same rights and protections as every American.
We just passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which will now to go President Biden's desk for his signature.
There are so many frustrating moments working in Congress, but by keeping at it we can make real change that will help all Americans. This is a proud moment for all of us.
When we were elected we promised to deliver generational change for working families. The Build Back Better bill will do just that. Here is what's on the table:
A reminder that the Supreme Court still doesn't follow a code of ethics even though there's a code in effect for every other federal judge.
That needs to change. SCOTUS should't not be above a simple code of ethics.
I'm running for United States Senate. I'm fighting for a progressive agenda because our families, our planet, and our democracy can't afford to wait.

Honored to receive this endorsement. With the threats facing our democracy, the stakes have never been higher. I will continue to ensure our government is accountable to the people it serves, not special interests or corporations.

in his race to become Vermont's next U.S. Senator! Throughout his time in Congress, Rep. Welch has been a champion for getting big money out of politics and protecting the freedom to vote.
Nothing is better in the middle of the summer than a pint of Vermont's best ice cream. In honor of that, here's Peter as Ben & Jerry's flavors.
A thread.
More than one-third of Vermont households are living in unaffordable housing — with some paying 50% or more of their income.
That's unacceptable. We have to act now to make sure young Vermonters can invest in our state and live here for generations to come.
This is a moment I hoped we'd never see, but it's here. I'm running for Senate because the right to an abortion is fundamental and non-negotiable.
I refuse to let Vermont be the seat that gives Mitch McConnell control and lets him pass a nationwide ban.
Kansas voted to protect reproductive rights in the state's constitution by a huge margin last night. Now it's our turn.
I'm voting for Prop 5 in November to ensure every Vermonter has the right to an abortion.
January 6th was a warning for what is to come if we do not act. The right to vote and the peaceful transfer of power are core tenets of our democracy. The future depends on our fight to protect them. We can save democracy if we stand together.
