OPC met 🚢. I tell boats where they shouldn't sail, then they do anyway. Prev MQT, AWC, Stony Brook ('18), Valpo ('15). All Thoughts/opinions mine only. He/him

Wasn't it only a year ago when the hip new alternative right wing figures - the Ben Shapiros and Steven Crowders and such - had generally dismissed homophobia as a losing battle only their parents were still fighting? Anyone else really scared by the rapid backslide?
"Hey you know the colors for Winter Storm Warning and Red Flag Warning are pretty much the same on the WWA map. Should we change one?"
"Nah, I mean when are we ever gonna have both in effect at the same time?"

YES!
Mr. Mayor Q, you should watch some of
@Nerd4Cities
's YouTube videos. KC is on so many worst top 10 lists it's a running joke. But it doesn't need to be that way!
I love your forward thinking vision for what this city could become once we break our dependency on cars
@MLive
Boy they really can't get over having a smart, strong, successful lady governor, can they?
MI could save money by selling the governor's mansion since she already lives rent-free in Republicans' heads
This warning is nearly three times the size of the state of Rhode Island for a squall like that looks marginal at best, is outflow-dominant and riddled with gaps.
It’ll “verify” if even a few folks get 60 mph winds, but it’ll still be “a false alarm” for 95%+ of folks. [1/n]
@HelloCullen
Their misdirection jokes are my favorite. The way they took a formulaic sitcom joke that they knew the audience would predict the punchline to, only to make a joke out of the joke.
If I was still at WFO I'd be tweeting something like "Turning around is low-key goated in situations where don't drown is the vibe" but I can't do that anymore
You know, maybe it's for the best...
A whole lotta people using
@AppFolio
woke up to this email:
How many renters nationwide use AppFolio and pay via eCheck? (The only other option, as far as I know, is to pay via CC with a bigger fee). Easily an extra $100k/mo in revenue
I guess the CEO needs a third yacht...
@kshekar
@JakeAnbinder
This is 100% correct
It's always "I hate Trump BUT the Democrats are trying to grade Black students more easily and they're saying AP classes are racist and and and" and none of that is true but that doesn't matter
@FOX29philly
This is just wildly irresponsible "reporting". Florida has the 13th highest cumulative number of cases per capita, and that's if you ignore the reporting the Miami Herald has done showing an undercount in the state. Of the 12 higher states, 11 are red states.
Do better.
@Climatologist49
@JeffLandfield
The airline industry called him dangerously unqualified. The pilots union called him a drunk. That's reason enough for me why I think he should fly our plane!
Would love to see this used as one of the practice cases in the RAC workshop.
Coming from MQT it was always tempting to say, well, that's cool but we're never going to see a signature like that here.
Well...
More details regarding Gaylord, Michigan's tornado on May 20th:

• Path length / time: 16.6 miles / 20 minutes
• Maximum width: 200 yards
• First EF-3 or greater in MI since 2012/EF-3 Dexter, MI

I mean you literally have Cindy McCain, AOC, Noam Chomsky, Taylor Swift, Scientific American, and the New England Journal of Medicine teaming up on one side and the Taliban and the Michigan "Militia" on the other and people still out here undecided

Yes, but it's a good visual match. Left leaning is also left on the graphic, rather than left being down and right being up if the axes were presented in the traditional way
Looks like the peak wind gust so far at the lighthouse was 31.9 m/s (aka 62 kts, 71 mph) back at 1503z. STDM4 is a notoriously windy spot but even for them that's impressive, especially so early in the fall gale/storm season.

It's a scientifically-based social metric. We could communicate "time to frostbite" instead of numeric wind chill, maybe. But the basic idea is scientifically sound. Lower wind chills actually are more dangerous so no, it's not just hype.

employee 2 SE Union Center, NY reported 11.5" at 0438z, and 18.0" at 0530z. I'm not so much doubting the measurement as I am desperate for it to be an error so that my jealousy doesn't consume me to the point of suffocation.

I've always dreaded having to make that call home to mom to get in the basement NOW! Today was that day. The red dot is home and wow, way too close for comfort. She's fine, the house is fine, the power is even on. Great job
@alexstaar_wx
jumping on that TOR with a Confirmed tag!
Pretty remarkable 8" probability graphic from this afternoon's PWPF. Based on what happened this morning (19" in that area in < 6 hours with a lake effect mesolow) and many CAMs showing a signal for higher QPF tomorrow, it's entirely believable!

But plenty of time for side hustles with a job like this. Trade crypto, live streams on social media, grow hemp if allowed, door dash, chase on days off. Never stop the grind
WINTER STORM ORLENA UPDATE:
State offices and all six vaccine mega-sites will remain CLOSED tomorrow.
We remain under a State of Emergency in response to this storm.

about the complexity of Spanish language severe wx messaging. Research has shown English speakers don't even understand the SPC risk level words in English. Could a simple number and color scale without words solve two problems at once?

August 2011?
I like that you didn't even label the colormap. You're just letting us assume it's precip when it could be like a temp anomaly or something
How did I celebrate

? By getting 22" of snow (seriously, I swear my best honest most reasonable guess is 22") and then getting up early the next day to shovel it all so I could make it to my 9 am root canal 🙄

Apparently the WFT has a new name but they're waiting to announce it until the today show on Feb 2 which I can only assume means they're actually still between two names and it'll come down to whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not

uh please take this one seriously. It really seems impossible to understate the potential for widespread destructive flooding this evening. Just all the lights flashing red here.
Kansas City redirected 20% of police funding to social services last year and R's in the Missouri state house got a prop on the ballot to amend the state constitution to force them to undo it so keep that in mind over the next couple days when R's talk about mental health, etc.

Though maybe not the most important takeaway here, it's interesting that he considers tonight's low temperature an odd question. I mean if he asked his mechanic, then sure. But a meteorologist
In Kansas,

is poised to win BIG. 2-to-1 margin big. At the moment, the No vote is outpacing the number of R ballots cast by ~80,000.
Folks, we have a midterm strategy.
I hope all the states rights Republicans are ready for the wave of state constitution amendments
3 of the 4 said they'd look into it. Fine, I respect that. If you don't know, find out. No shame in that!
One said there's never been a tornado in KC and tornadoes don't hit this part of town because of the buildings. Source? "I grew up in Kansas." That was a bit unnerving...
@JosephPattonWx
It is absolutely a BS move. They started cracking down on unbelievably petty stuff like this somewhere around November, thankfully right after I put my app in for my next job. I believe NWSEO has a grievance filed or is collecting information in order to file one
It should mimic the functionality of iNWS but open to a general audience, allowing users to choose which headlines they want to be notified of, where, and how, and also include a location option that is just "my current location"
