knows that calling DC a shithole will get her racist clout, but itโs nice to learn that she actually loves the city, according to her public Instagram. To Kylee, DC is a โdazzling cityโ that gives her โPotomac Fever.โ
Across the country, new developments are looking the same. Boxy buildings with bright paneling. Anytown architecture.

investigates, and asks: Are cities becoming bland? In the current housing crisis, does that matter?
(Thereโs quizzes, too.)
The picture on the left was DC's protected bike lane map in about 2019 when 5% of DC resident trips were made by bike.
The picture on the right will be DC's protected bike lane map* in about 2025. We will reach at least 10% bike trips.
*thin grey lines = unprotected bike lanes
You have MSNBC parents (same). But I have a 108-year-old grandma who has voted for every Democratic presidential candidate since FDR and enforces a strict no-call policy during Ari Melber daily.
This is incalculable.

Is it me or are pick up times for Uber in DC getting longer and longer? The last few times Iโve called one itโs been a 10 min and that hasnโt been the norm
not to go dc nativist but one of the worst parts of t*ny p's vibe is everything being "dc this" "dc that" while being a consultant who just moved here from massachusetts

You'll get the full gamut of responses to this tweet, but I think if any stick with you it should be the simplest:
The guy on the bike isn't breaking the law. But you, using your phone while driving, are.
On this date in 1895, Georgetown's existence as a standalone city within the District of Columbia was formally eliminated, and it was folded into the City of Washington
@HowardArenstein
And unfortunately there are also consequences ($700) for not stopping. Saying that there should be no consequences (refund the $700) implies you think driving is a right not a privilege. But thatโs why you need a license to do it.

The WMATA board deserves a lot of credit for hiring Randy. I don't think they said "let's hire someone with enough star power to become the local SOTU guest" but they clearly understood the importance of finding a local champion. An inspiring bureaucrat. A Richard Ravitch.
My guest for next week's State of the Union address will be
@WMATAGM
Randy Clarke.

DC residents rely on WMATA, and Iโm looking forward to championing public transit โ and hopefully taking a few selfies โ with GM Clarke.

Paris has a population density of 53,000 people per square mile. DC's is 11,000.
Paris-esque streets are 6+ story apartment buildings on narrow streets. Capitol Hill streets are 2-3 story single-family homes on extremely wide streets.

for nearly 50 years. These bike lanes are GREAT. Thousands of people like me will use them instead of driving. This kind of lane works perfectly well on L and M St NW, in NYC.
+, lots of ppl bike to Fragers!

As a mommy who must sometimes drop off a teen curbside in ๐ฌColumbia Heights, I object to this plan. Penalizes who? DC residents. DoorDash drivers and people popping in to small businesses. I don't remember anyone asking if we wanted those red lanes.
Iโm calling Mike Leeโs DC office at 202-224-5444 and requesting they help me navigate why my trash hasnโt been picked up.
Encourage everyone to do similar.
-Request your street tree be watered
-Sidewalk repaired
-Parking permit be renewed

Me and my dad have been visiting stumpy for years, actually. Youโre not a DC native unless you were at the 1976 โBasin Bicentennial Bash!โ where Gerald Ford fell onto the tree, permanently damaging it and creating an enduring DC legacy we all remember from childhood.
How many affordable housing units did the McDonalds have?
To be clear, the new buildings will also have zero affordable housing units (altho the developer will make a payment in lieu to the Housing Production Trust Fund) because the HEIGHT ACT prevents it in "downtown" zones.
@HowardArenstein
Is the implication here that every time the camera gave you a ticket you actually came to a full stop entirely behind the white stop bar line, looked both ways, and then kept driving?
If you donโt know that scooters and bikes are allowed to use car lanes in DC, you shouldnโt have a driverโs license.

U Street is nuts right now! This is near Vermont St. It appears police are trying to disperse large crowds. Sirens are blaring and the chopper is circling. Road is blocked, preventing buses from getting through. One officer told us, โKids. Thereโs no accountability.โ

Ominous email sent to WAMU staff this afternoon about a โnew strategic frameworkโ to be announced Friday morning. Their offices will be closed to have the "time and space" to have these convos-- WAMU won't publish anything online, and they're automating starting 8pm.

Thank you! Joseph A. Bank๐โฆ bought it for a suited internship years ago and barely ever wore it. Took it to the tailor and tried to ask for what you point out- collar gap, real waist, etc. feels so worth the attention paid to it. So thanks again!
Larry Hogan said the Red Line revival in Baltimore is a mistake and should not be a priority for federal funds if he's elected to the Senate.
"I donโt think itโs going to happen. I think thereโs almost no chance whatsoever," he told The Sun.
Imagine telling Metroโs founders that the ideal time to close Metro Center, placed under โ12th and Gโ, the cityโs busiest retail and department store district, would be during Christmas shopping season
Metro is announcing details of a Red Line shutdown late this year. From Dec 18-30 Farragut North, Metro Center & Gallery Place will close. For one weekend Judiciary Square will close also. Crews will shore up a beam that dates to the earliest days of the system

Drove for the first time in a few months. In 23 minutes:
-WTOP tells me a fatal crash in Shaw
-drove past two crash aftermaths in the 395 tunnel
-saw a driver watching YouTube on his dash
-nobody moved for an ambulance
Car culture is completely broken in DC.
The K Street Transitway I was excited about looked like this, not that. Two protected bike lanes and four-five car lanes.
Not six-seven car lanes and zero bike lanes.

The Washington Commanders announced a new 8-year stadium rights agreement with Northwest Federal Credit Union.
Terms run through the 2031-32 season for current stadium only, but do not preclude the franchise from opening a new stadium earlier.
The new name: Northwest Stadium
Itโs really not complicated. The vast majority of DC residents find Republican politicians and their policies reprehensible.
Alerting DC residents that these folks are supporting the recall campaign is called politics.
Brave new world. Commanders teaming up with Metro. Such a smart move from the Harris group (and others that had already been there but werenโt allowed to do smart stuff)
Cringe but taking metro to regal gallery place for movies helped me develop independence as a kid. The quintessential urban experience so many Americans lack outside of a few places. Big loss. Very sad.

Thank you for making it abundantly clear your opposition to building new housing in a wealthy neighborhood is purely based on your aesthetic preferences,
More homes and people =/= more noise and chaos. Thatโs just the cars.
All of these homes are like a five minute walk to two grocery stores and frequent bus service, not much farther from metro.
