I ran into a former history professor from undergrad at Panera today. He recognized my dining companion but didn't remember me. He asked me if I was currently reading the book on the table. I replied, "I wrote it."
Finally able to post this: I am excited to announce that I will be joining the University of Idaho

Ohhh, I thought it was because of the systemic erosion of higher ed because of neoliberalism since the 1980s, but this makes so much more sense.
@emilypawley
I have a lot of athletes and one of them requested to keep the lights off recently because she had a minor concussion and it was giving her a migraine. I happily obliged and it gave me a new perspective on some students' situations.
3 flights. 2 layovers. 1 mad dash through the airport to catch a connecting flight. 0 hours of sleep. All worth it to see the Fernsehturm looming in the distance as my plane glided into the new-to-me BER airport!

I got my booster shot and flu shot this morning. I had a lovely chat with the pharmacist about history (he took a 400-level History of the South class at Ole Miss as a non-major back in the day). It was a delightful human interaction! Go humanities!
I have been looking forward to this conversation with

for months, and it's almost here! You can attend virtually or in person, just make sure to register!

I reread my AAUW fellowship application from 2020 today, for which I received a fellowship in 2021-22. I am proud to say I did everything I promised to do. Thank you,
@AAUW
, for your support and for helping me achieve a huge professional goal!
Fellow Germanists: I just had the pleasure of chatting with
@on_germany
about my research! What an awesome opportunity to nerd out (okay, fine, ramble) about German gender history for an hour!
Memories of this conversation are keeping me going today:
Diss. committee reader: "This is a big project."
Me: "Oh, I know. It's so much work doing two Germanys."
Reader: "No, I mean, in terms of its contribution. This is an important project."
Me: *blushes*
It was such a pleasure to see

Might be a weird connection to make, but these are probably the same people who claimed that Simone Biles was weak, unpatriotic, and turned her back on her country for withdrawing from her events two weeks ago...
@waitmanb
Part 2: I was once told that the reason the Wehrmacht lost WWII is because women were working in the factories and they didn't know how to assemble equipment properly, which led to German losses on the front.
Very excited to be hosting this event with

I think the problem is how we think of "student-driven" as educators encouraging intellectual curiosity is very different than how university administrators think of "student-driven" as code for "consumer-driven."
@jonathanbfine
My friend asked a grad professor to be on a committee and was refused because said person claimed she was going out of the country. Guess who she ran into the day of her defense...apparently that was a very long and uncomfortable elevator ride.
My amazing department is hiring in North American environmental/indigenous history, and we want YOU *points finger*! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions:

Just your friendly neighborhood German historian here to remind you that we are a global community and climate change affects us all, even states that consistently rank in the top ten of environmentally friendly countries.
I think I am finally beginning to understand why professors have large stacks of papers on their desks: so they can hide from people coming to their offices.
