This Boxing Day, let's unwrap the coolest 🎁 of all: Charlottesville's new zoning code. It's an ambitious step toward a more walkable, livable, housing-abundant city. – Legalizes plexes citywide – Sell 🏘️ on fee-simple 'sublots' – Denser mixed-use corridors – No parking mandate

This is a policy failure. This street has more than enough width to have proper protected bike facilities. Instead it has 5 car lanes with a "bike lane" straddled between two of them. If the city managed its streets properly, this person would still be alive.

I'm trying to watch this video with a charitable eye. But it looks like 911 was called for a medical emergency, a police officer responded instead of the on-site EMTs, the man jerked his arm slightly while he was cuffed, and so the cop choked him & charged him with a felony.

Since 2007, about 8,430 units were completed in Albemarle County. Almost 80% of those are in the county’s development areas, where growth is focused, and about 71% of overall units built in that time are single-family houses and townhouses.

Incredibly powerful email. I can't fathom what public policy rationale there could be for excluding these working moms from our city through purposeful policy.

We've heard a lot about the Rugby neighborhood in the last few days. But did you know that the namesake and historic center of the neighborhood is a house named Rugby? Today that 19th-century house still stands, operating as a 12-unit apartment building — or 'twelveplex'.
