The stand your ground/castle doctrine is one of the few things that I think the US gets right + that other countries could learn from
You shouldn’t have to justify the amount of force you use against an intruder (read:potentially armed stranger) in your own home

You’re wondering who’s smarter out of dolphins and humans?
Well, we’re looking at dolphin neuroscience research via an interconnected web comprising millions of computers
Meanwhile, they’re swimming around aimlessly going “squeak” and “grunt”
Not really a close contest is it
@BrianFrancisRoy
@RMTunion
I had never heard of Mick Lynch before today.
The way he handled the sniping, snidey newsroom presenters and squirming, toady politicians live on air throughout was absolutely glorious.
Required viewing for those like me who have become tired of endless vacant platitudes.
@TelegraphRugby
@CRichardsonTel
Possibly the worst take possible on current rugby commentary. Utterly bizarre.
Flats and Topsy are intelligent observers of the game
They make enlightening points and Flats is v. entertaining too
They are streets ahead of many other very dull commentators who lack any insight
@SamLStandsUp
@peterrobinson86
@EnglandRugby
this is totally unacceptable behavior by your pitch side medical team
How can a culture of proper head injury care be fostered in rugby when elite medics behave like this for all to see
An appalling way to treat any player with head injury, especially a young one
@Holbornlolz
A week ago police removed civilians protecting statue of Churchill only for it to be immediately vandalized
If the same police today use S.14 to arrest peaceful Grenadier Guard veterans protecting the Cenotaph, then as someone who is English born it will be an utterly tragic day
@SallyMayweather
My grandparents + great grandparents suffered terribly when the communist revolution swept through Ukraine in the years between the two world wars
I have been earnestly told by youngsters in the UK that “it wasn’t proper communism because it was implemented incorrectly”
Ok 👍
@ShehabKhan
@nw_nicholas
Have loads of these
Found a seashell on a beach in Isle of Wight, flipped it over and “Jersey” was written on it
A souvenir from 100 miles away had washed up
6 years later I moved to Jersey + met a Welsh guy
Find out he used to live in my wife’s grandparents house in Wales 😮
@RugbyInsideLine
Interesting tactic there.
Pass to the fastest bloke in the team and let him run full speed towards the try line. Resulted in a brilliant try.
Perhaps someone could let Borthwick and Faz know about this ingenious ploy
@AndyGoode10
Not a fan of Marler’s wackiness but what has Beaumont done of late as custodian of the global game except ruthlessly erode the respect most had for him from back in his playing days
@GBNEWS
Happy to act as special advisor here
If there an empty seat, it means no one is sitting in it
The coupling formerly known as Royal can DM me for other consultancy work. I can help with topics as diverse as “how to sharpen a pencil” to “what to do if your shoelace comes undone”
@1_Dickie
Don’t beat yourself up about it
Team game, 80 mins + decisions are made in spilt seconds
I’m sure there’s a few keyboard warriors having a go but most genuine rugby fans are more focussed on tactics + the subs strategy (management decisions) rather than a single incident
👍
@MercyMuroki
My paternal grandparents met in a prisoner of war camp in Germany
Yet I am very fond of Germans + Germany.
That’s not because I’m a virtue signaling happy clapper, it’s because I realize blaming millions of people for that things that happened before they were born is madness
Difficult to watch. I can’t imagine the pain this would bring to a son and a family.
Member of UK parliament discusses his father committing suicide in his garage.
I believe strongly in the right to die with dignity.
The
#jerseyci
stance on assisted dying needs revising IMHO
Paul Blomfield’s terminally ill father ended his own life, afraid that if he didn’t act quickly, then he would lose the opportunity to act at all.
It is UNACCEPTABLE that anyone should have to die in these tragic circumstances.
Change the law.
Just had a visit from two very friendly
@GovJersey
appointed covid marshals
They were checking up on my welfare (asking if I needed food delivered etc) and making sure I was isolating properly
Good system and very decent of people to volunteer for that role 👍
@EnglandRugby
Have to feel very sorry for the French team this evening.
Ref really wasn’t kind to them at all and made at least two crucial incorrect decisions that absolutely handed momentum to England.
Thank you very much to the kind parishioners of
@StJohnJersey
who bought onions from my son this weekend
He grew them on our allotment + spent 5 hours selling them from his “shop” on our drive
I know at least 2 Twitter folk stopped by. Really grateful, you made his weekend! 😊
@EnglandRugby
If you pick the best players, employ smart tactics and lose, so be it, most fans will be accepting.
As it is, the selections are mystifying, the tactics ineffective, the play is unattractive and so the losses are aggravating
Many fans are losing interest in watching this team
@NoContextSykes
The entire documentary is absolute gold, an incredible piece of social history
The chaps name is Paul Sykes and the full film is available on YouTube
@Murray_Kinsella
Though he first came to prominence in Eastenders, Heartbeat is arguably his best work
His transition to the Rugby field has been seamless
@CrimeLdn
In light of facing substantial custodial sentences following the death of a man, one would assume these defendants would be a high risk of absconding
They duly failed to appear in court.
This was foreseeable.
Why then were they granted bail?
Anyone else find the comparative silence of electric cars a dangerous feature?
I’ve certainly had a few surprises with them on 🇯🇪 lanes
I think EV should make a fake engine noise to help alert other road users (I’m thinking mainly pedestrians and cyclists) to their presence
@EnglandRugby
@OLawrence1
Selecting a proven high quality centre to play inside centre for England was always going to be a high risk strategy, but it paid off massively yesterday
Kudos to Borthwick for coming up with that idea
Ollie was absolutely superb and his try was much deserved 👏
@JEPnews
Yes that makes total sense. 🙄
After all, Aldi and Lidl only set up in the UK after German became more widely spoken in Manchester Merseyside and the Midlands.
Ditto, IKEA after there was a big push to get Londoners to converse in Swedish.
@RuckedOver
Unusual call from the coaches to leave out Ludlam who is on the form of his life and select Vunipola who is in the worst form of his life
Ludlam has been an absolute tower of strength of late and Billy has been steadily declining for years
Coaches obviously saw something
@TheAshPreston
This is the worst cover version of any song I’ve ever heard
And it’s infuriating because of how much I love the original
I wish I had never heard this
How can you fail to be moved by this?
Assisted dying is not compulsory
It’s a choice
Let people make it so they can die with dignity
The sooner this is enacted in Jersey the better.
There’s been plenty of thought and discussion already.
Now we need action.
"I probably will not be here after October."
Rosemary has a green light to go to Dignitas, but all she wants is to die in her own bed, looking out across the hills.
How can anyone say she should be denied this choice?
The current law is failing our dying citizens.

If dolphins had the wherewithal to evolve thumbs they might of had a chance of holding a phone and posting on Twitter
Unfortunately for them, they weren’t up to the challenge
Until a human company invents a phone adapted for flippers, dolphins won’t have access to social media
Shoutout to all our local journalists who are covering this rapidly unfolding story in such great detail and who are featuring on various national TV and radio programs
Once again Jersey is punching far above its weight when it comes to talent
Fellas:
If you’re in a sports team representing Jersey you should act as a role model on + off the pitch
If you’re traveling in team kit and dropping lots of F-bombs when sat on ✈️ next to ladies and little kids and you’re repeatedly told to mind your language, you should
@talkRADIO
If someone has made the trip to the supermarket and complies with whatever rules are in place, I think they should be able to buy what they want.

Saw that and loved it.
Ref: “Show some leadership”
Pablo: “I saw a guy kick the face of one of my men, it’s not respect”
-Looks at the Argentina badge on on his shirt, points at his heart-
“I play for my country”
Ref: “I understand that”
Brilliant. No quarter given. 👏
I was told today that a colleague is leaving Jersey with his wife + kids
He’s a well paid, well educated finance professional who is highly qualified + experienced
Yet he is priced out of the housing market + can’t see a way onto the ladder
Jersey’s loss
#housingcrisis
I found out yesterday that 2 friends are leaving Jersey in a few months
They’ve decided independently of each other but both for the same reason: cost of living, esp. housing
🇯🇪 is losing 2 upstanding people who are also highly qualified professionals with 25+ years experience
There’s a terraced house (no garden) for sale in St Helier for the best part of £1 million
Commendably, a few doors down on the same street, there’s a food bank
As I was passing by today, 2 people were queuing to use it
The inequality in our society is startling

Rather than watching the presser I’m going to get the summary from

That way I save time and get a crystal clear message.
It also means I’m not exposed to any smug asides, waffle, oddity or infuriating question dodges
Big win

Voice of the Voiceless is incredible.
It just keeps going. It’s my new champ.
I think it’s even more unbelievable than the suffragette football story.
@Holbornlolz
Burning flags on the centotaph is insulting to tens of millions living and dead
Will this ultimately reach a point where hundreds of thousands of normal law abiding citizens (after a huge struggle of conscience) say “enough is enough” and are compelled to take to the streets?
@thedalstonyears
I wasn’t taught grammar. Makes it hard for me to analyze and learn foreign languages
E.g. Icelandic nouns are declined in four cases: nominative, accusative, dative and genitive
The explanation of what this all means makes no sense to me and I can’t relate it to English 🙁
@Barbarian_FC
Feel desperately sorry the Samoan team, support staff and all the supporters.
Very moving seeing the team go in the pitch to sing their anthem. This match meant so much to them.
@GaryBurgessCI
@TheOnlyGuru
@ITVChannelTV
Great questions Gary.
Some down right rude responses. Why the air of superiority, it’s so utterly distasteful and out of touch with the public.
Well done for sticking with it and correcting them.
You are not “tripping them up”
You are “asking straight questions”
@GaryBurgessCI
Gary, the clarity of your communication is beyond compare. The most useful source of local information over the past couple of weeks. I wish everyone on the island had access to your twitter feed.

This is incredible. Thank you
I do have a serious (genuine) question though which I’m presuming is also hugely naive
Why did rock/cave art not get demonstrably better over the course of 18,000 years?
Is it due to cerebral capacity, disparate communities and lack of materials?
Seeing lots of candidates making things official by submitting papers today
From every party plus independents
It takes gumption. I know how much it means to each of them to be elected and how disappointed those who don’t will feel
Much respect + very best of luck to you all
If you walk your dog in
@StJohnJersey
please can you take doggy bags with you + use them
There’s an increasing amount of dog poop in the lanes and it’s completely inexcusable
I’m a dog owner too. We have a lovely parish and we all have a responsibility to keep it clean.
Thanks
Please can every candidate who is re-standing for election publish their 5 biggest achievements over the prior term
By “biggest” I mean those that have made the greatest positive impact to the people, environment or economy of 🇯🇪
5 achievements in 4 years
Should be really easy
This photo was taken in Bolton, 🏴
It’s my dad, grandparents + their friends
Every adult here is a

70+ years later, Bolton still has strong 🇺🇦 community
Today’s 🇺🇦 refugees should be warmly welcomed in 🇬🇧

I don’t think they are slow enough, their passing is too accurate and they are able to create (+ score) tries using guile, footwork and speed
They also come from a club with a proper rugby ethos
For Eng, the incumbent Sarries lads are safe at 8 and 10, as is a random lock at 6
@MarcDavenant
@GarethBateArt
To prove your point: A friend recently went to a gallery exhibition where some of the exhibited works were of extreme poor quality
Turns out they all belonged to the same artist, who is the husband of a wealthy D list celeb
@AquaticOTC
@RAF_Luton
No it’s not a joke.
If people can’t take guidance seriously the RAF need to get involved.
If they need to destroy some A roads to stop people leaving Tier 4 areas then so be it.
Positive news to end the week:
- On island testing
- Health data collection
- Field hospital construction
- New GP arrangement
Get the sense we are taking meaningful steps towards righting the ship.
Yet we still need to keep our wits sharp when navigating rough seas
Since

Here is my first in a series of night time photos of

This is “Mont Mado by Moonlight”
Stunning
@RugbyInsideLine
I think the real breaking news is that England had an attack coach and a skills coach 😮
Seems like they have carried the can for Eddie’s head stratching selections and the team’s abject performance this year
Bizarre experience at Heathrow today when for a while BA staff wouldn’t let me check in because they didn’t consider me returning home was essential 🤷♂️
Excellent experience on arrival at
@JERairport
, highly organized + rapid testing 👍
10 days isolation starts today!

Italian player ducked and lead with the head a split second before contact
Absolutely nothing the Uruguay player could do
This sets a president and could become a tactic to get opposition players sent off
Out and about today I noticed a good amount of UK reg and hire cars
Had a lovely dinner at
@LHorizonHotel
They were fully booked and turned away a number of walk-ins, directing them to other nearby restaurants
Tourists are here and it’s nice to see hospitality up and running
@Danbarnes012
Dan, if you or any of your fellow players or coaches need a nice place to stay in Jersey for a few months, gratis, DM me or ask them to
Can accommodate single person, colleagues sharing or a family.
Available immediately
Thanks
Great
Next up teach them about
- savings, tax and pensions
- how to use tools for basic repairs
- critical thinking
- effective time management
- basic car maintenance
- how to grow + cook food
- how to build a network
- negotiation
Hi
@easyJet
95mph winds expected for Jersey on Thursday this week thanks to Storm Ciaran
Are you going to give passengers due to fly to Jersey on Thursday some advance notice of cancelations?
Finding out Today or tomorrow would be better than whilst at airport on Thursday

This is fantastic
Shows theres no shortage of demand, just a shortage of supply
Now let’s revisit the
@FarmersCricket
application for “a multi-functional sports venue with health and wellbeing facilities”
The Independent Planning Inspector recommended approval. States said no
One thing that’s massively under estimated is that national sporting success can provide a positive boost to national psyche
That feel good factor permeates many aspects of life, including greater interest in sport
We should harness that. Invest. Provide facilities. Sow + reap
Chap on an electric scooter riding on the pavements in town, weaving around pedestrians before joining traffic on the road
Before someone is injured it would be good to have some publicity about the fact that the electric scooters are not road legal

Interesting that the UK now wants to refocus on the previously abandoned tactic of contact tracing
@Johnrashton47
you may be interested to know that
@Govgg
placed contact tracing at the heart of their strategy from the beginning and have had much success
What would be really good for Jersey sport:

On 12th March we were told “keep calm and carry on”
By 24th March, 21 new draft emergency covid related laws were proposed + adopted in
@StatesAssembly
If the law office can draft 21 laws in 12 days, surely they can do 1 law in less than 2 months
🤔
That’s because
@DeputyAlves
is one of the very best
@StatesAssembly
members we have and has consistently proven herself to be at the forefront of trying to do the best for people, rather than put her own interests or beliefs first
Plenty of other Members should take note
Really admire this parliamentarian in Jersey. A person of faith who accepts that she should not stand in the way of others who may want an assisted death:
Deputy Carina Alves said despite her beliefs she agreed with the proposition.
@KirstenJersey
@SkyNews
Kirsten, wasn’t it the French that totally overacted?
This is London’s natural response to a potential blockade of St Helier.
The UK are charged with our protection after all.
They don’t want Jersey becoming France’s plaything and neither should we.
Well done

When I worked at a funeral Directors we used to a lot of funerals around Windsor (including one in St George’s chapel)
Sometimes out on the roads near the barracks the cortège would pass soldiers on horseback and they would all salute as we went by
Very classy of them to do so
Jersey in summer is hard to beat.
Sitting outside a lovely restaurant, enjoying the food and Jersey’s incredible natural environment, until….cig smoke wafting over from nearby tables completely ruins the experience
Time to review smoking laws?
Looking forward to celebrating Liberation Day today in 🇯🇪
So grateful to have the freedoms we do
Remembering all those who suffered + perished prior to the original 🇯🇪 Liberation in 1945
Also wishing for peace + freedom in 🇺🇦, Yemen + everywhere that war or slavery persists
