It appears that DePaul's new athletic buildings would require the demolition of at least 8 buildings, including a large courtyard apartment building and the adjacent four buildings to the north.
Why is there no mention of the total number of residential units that would be lost?
Amazing news to report...

While we appreciate the public mention of the judges desire for unobstructed lake views,
We respectfully disagree that this wish warrants the $52M demolition of two important landmarks when a high-security adaptive reuse plan is ready to go.
Miracles do happen.
With bulldozers idling in the parking lot, the odds of saving the Lake Street Tied House were slim.
Yet, we did it. We all did it together.
And today it stands as a Chicago Landmark.

How can we hope to solve the affordable housing crisis if we continue to allow thousands of units of existing naturally occurring affordable housing to be demolished every year?
“If they're demolished, ‘we lose the character of the community, the historical street wall,’ said Ward Miller, executive director of Preservation ...”
Chicago is suffering from an affordable housing shortage.
Yet every month between 50 & 100 buildings are demolished. Many are two flats & three flats. Many are in neighborhoods of divestment. Many were naturally occurring affordable housing. Most are replaced with vacant lots.
