It takes a special kind of willful ignorance to argue that if you removed the population, economic, cultural, and educational centers of gravity in a state, that it would magically be a great place to live.
Actually, if you remove democrat controlled cities like Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati - Ohio would arguably rank as the best state to live in.....
@ohiogop
My man went to college in Clifton and NOW HE’S ON BOARD?!? Best Indian food in the region. 87 wasted his time in college.
Also, hi Taylor. Should you ever want home cooked Indian food in Cincinnati, the Parikh family will happily oblige.
I’m currently on paternity leave and anyone who has an issue with that can go right to Hell. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. The first few weeks and months of a baby’s life are really hard. I’m happy to be able to share the burden with my wife, who is a professional too.
🧵on
@Bengals
and being from Cincinnati:
I’ve seen commentary from Nashville last week and now Kansas City about how Bengals fans have completely taken over their cities for these post season games. And I wanted to talk about that.
Even those who prefer suburbs should recognize that their existence is contingent on proximity to the cities and the strength of our urban centers drives the strength of our state.
Maybe people are just tired of an extremist legislature that focuses on cultural lightning rods instead of actually growing our economy and building a high standard of living.
So why have we invaded Nashville and KC? Because we, as a city, are fiercely loyal and fiercely proud. And on the shoulders of
@JoeyB
, the kid from Athens, Ohio, this is our time now.
It’s really hard to make peace with the fact that a close friend of yours is dying and you’ll likely never see her, hold her, or talk to her again. We were supposed to have 30 more years to work together. I’m just so immeasurably sad.
Miss you forever, old friend. Glad to have time to mourn with so many friends today at a beautiful service for
@brigidekelly
. I can’t believe we won’t have another 23 years together…
My dear friend will suffer no more. I know I should be grateful for having had 23 years supporting each other in our personal, professional, and political lives. But I’m so sad for a future that can no longer be. She made our world a better place everyday. I’m just devastated.
It has been my pleasure these past few days to hear such wonderful stories from so many of you about Brigid Kelly. She died this evening and like you, I can only think that it's way too soon for such a bright light to leave us.
With everyone in Ohio policy’s talking about the farce that was the redistricting commission, I want to remind everyone that Huffman wrote the reform amendment with Sykes in 2014. And Faber negotiated the partisanship requirement. LaRose was part of those negotiations too.
Tonight has been incredible and definitely overwhelming! Thank you to everyone for your support. I am excited to get to work and to serve as your next Hamilton County Clerk of Courts.
Special thanks to
@AftabPureval
for placing his faith and trust in me.
Tonight, the
@HamCountyDems
appointed a world-class leader and servant to fill my seat as Clerk of Courts. Pavan Parikh has the character, experience, and resolve to expand access to justice and bring our courthouse to new heights.
It’ll be my honor to partner with you!
I am heartbroken.
@brigidekelly
and I have been close friends since our first days at Xavier, 23 years ago. I’ve been honored to serve Hamilton County beside her and she is possibly the finest public servant I’ve ever known. I simply cannot comprehend my life without my friend.
Hamilton County Auditor Brigid Kelly has resigned, citing health reasons. She has urged county Democrats to appoint state Rep. Jessica Miranda, D-Forest Park, as her replacement.
@ej__baker
For the record, I have specifically asked his campaign manager for that information because A) I concur and B) I am going to need some new suits when I reenter the world and emerge from my Covid chrysalis.
@DavidPepper
Meh. One holding was a little suspect, but no they weren’t egregious. More annoying was the fact that they started deciding to calling penalties in the last two minutes of the game, when they barely called anything for the rest of it.
Don’t get too comfortable with Issue 2 passing. This legislature will do everything they can to overturn/neutralize it since it’s a statute and there is no prohibition on them changing it. They’ve repeatedly demonstrated that they don’t give a damn about the will of the people.
It’s been like 7 hours, but nothing can really prepare you for seeing one of your closest friends in a casket. This week has been tough but the funeral tomorrow just might break me. I just keep coming back to the fact that we were supposed to have so many more years together…
Happy Veterans Day, all! After ten years, here’s still my favorite picture in uniform because it’s like a live action comedy/tragedy mask. My wife’s disgust is palpable. And oh man that (within regs) stache. 🎭
@stacey_hauff
Finished at 25 right in the middle of the Great Recession. Didn’t have time for hobbies or growth, just needed to find a job and attempt to have a career. So far it worked out, by also never got to have the early career I wanted and it continues to have consequences.
To the person from Cincinnati, who spent the last week in Savannah and is flying
@united
, and who apparently gave them my phone number for updates, your flight home is boarding.
Even though the bad years, we still had that pride to be from the biggest small town in this country, and could still see our skyline on national TV any given Sunday. But nothing matches how proud I am today that our team is playing for the AFC Championship.
Went to a bar to celebrate a friend’s 40th. Everyone was so young. I’m going to be curled up in a ball for the rest of the night processing the fact fact that I am an old. Shoutout to the two 23 y/o on the elevator who seemed shocked at our ages (even if they were faking it).
It still stings, but man, what a season. There was so much to be proud of, not the least of which was seeing the entire city come together this last month. Guess we’ll just have to do it again next year!
#WhoDey
Am I the only one who finds it gross that everyone is so excited that Tua “can use his extremities?” Is the bar so low that we are just grateful he didn’t die or was paralyzed? He was clearly concussed and after last week EVERYONE should be fired. He shouldn’t have been playing.
I also refuse to believe that Faber was a good faith actor here if is being totally honest and being kept in the dark. Spent too many years working across the table from him on these issues to believe that.
So these guys have known exactly what was required for years and still chose to do it this way. Honestly, I’m surprised at the outcome only because I would have through they would have made a real effort to not make it easy for the Ohio Supreme Court to throw these out.
7.5 years in the Army and I finally passed ht/wt without having to get taped (and 6 lbs to spare!). I also just saw a fox run across the parking lot. It’s a morning of firsts.
It really shouldn’t surprise me anymore, but the sheer volume of bad faith actors in and around something as serious and sobering as government is truly mind boggling…
New nightmare unlocked: I know how I could get myself out of the car, but have no idea how I could get three kids in car seats out before it’s too late.
Thinking about everyone who went into the water and their families.

Wife: would you ever want to speak at something like this?
Me: F*** yeah!
Her: why?
Me: I’m sorry, I don’t even understand the question.
We’ve launched literary and musical careers that have changed the world and we are the hometown of presidents. You can’t feel shame without pride. And maybe that was why the 90s and early 2000s hurt so bad. We knew the unrealized potential of our hometown even if nobody else did.
Now that we are on day two, I can’t wait for the country to discover the absolute gem of a human that is
@AndyBeshearKY
. He exudes strength and kindness at the same time. He would be an incredible choice for VP.
Eggnog has a terrible PR team. Honestly, pretty delicious drink. It shouldn’t have taken me decades to try it. But who in their right mind wakes up one day and decides to drink something called eggnog?
4:15 - 2 y/o starts to wake up. I decide to ignore him. He goes back to bed.
4:45 - dog starts whining. I let him out of crate.
5:00 - 2 y/o starts to wake up again, I open his door but it’s now silent.
6:26 - I’m still sitting on the floor outside his room.
I just want sleep.
President Harrison was also Hamilton County Clerk of Courts the day before he became POTUS. To our knowledge, he remains the first and only county Clerk of Courts in the country to become POTUS, and don't worry, Clerk Parikh has no plans to run for President in 2024.

We have always had things to be proud of, but we forgot about that for a time. We are the home of world class museums and educational institutions. We are an historic center for arts, entertainment, and architecture.
Stopped by
@graeters
tonight to pick up three pints of ice cream and my dude Nathan asked if I was having a party. Negative, bud, just trying to survive with my post partum wife and my in laws in town…but I wish I was having a party?
It’s been kind of nice to sip the good bourbon and do whatever exactly the opposite of doomscrolling is on here. Thank you, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, and Ohio, for making good decisions tonight!
I was born in 1983, so by the time I was 10, the pinnacle of Cincinnati sports was already in my rear view window. The mid- to late-90s were a rough time to be a fan of much in this town. Yes, we had Barry Larkin.
In Wilson v Kasich, the Court nearly threw out those maps but didn’t want to remedy a constitutional violation with another violation. The Court won’t be able to fall back on that language this time.
Also, it’s a very different Court now and, as someone who was intimately involved in that litigation a decade ago, I don’t like the Republicans’ odds, even before DeWine and LaRose made their statements.
In 2009 I lived in Tempe, Arizona. I used to go to a bar to watch Bengals games every Sunday that had a sign making fun of Bengals fans for celebrating each touchdown as if they won the Super Bowl. You know what? I was kindof proud about that. Through it all, we kept watching.
Has anyone in the leadership of
@CityOfCincy
or
@HamiltonCntyOH
made any overtures about accepting Afghan refugees to our city or region?Because I haven’t seen anything. And if not, why not?
The thought that John “Get on the bus or get run over” Kasich continues to try and rebrand himself as a moderate is laughable. He did like exactly two things in 8 years that were truly bipartisan.
Wouldn’t it be great for America if a block of Republicans and Democrats work together to pick a Speaker to run a coalition-style government? A coalition allows the House to create policy from the middle out rather than the extremes in.
As part of the team that worked on Wilson v Kasich 10 years ago and tried to negotiate reform we could live with at the state legislature, this week has been surreal. Congratulations to those who fought for fair maps and a balanced court, namely
@KatyAShanahan
and
@DavidPepper
I still believe they were the best team in the NFL that year and would have won the Super Bowl, but in an instant that future was snapped away in the Wild Card Game as Palmer went down with a season ending injury that took the collective breath out of the stadium and the city.
@DavidPepper
is 100% correct on this. How do I know? I helped negotiate 2011 redistricting and redistricting reform in 14 (which appeared on the ballot in 15), I’m published on election law, and I taught it for three years at
@UCincinnatiLaw
. The law is clear here.
THREAD
Today is the 1st day a federal court might weigh in on the Ohio GOP’s ongoing defiance of the Ohio Constitution re the statehouse districts.
The federal case is a blatant and coordinated attempt by the GOP to get around the duly elected Ohio Supreme Court’s rulings..

yelled at me for killing Alvin. On the way home, we drove by deceased Alvin just as a vulture was picking up his carcass and flying away. Wife asked if I was going to tweet. Of course I am.

We are not perfect by any means (inequality continues to be a persistent problem). But now we have something collective to rally around. The pride that so many of us have had for so long is palpable in everything we do.
Two year olds are wild, y’all. Like, one minute he’s displaying surgical precision playing and nearly carrying on a conversation with me, and the next minute he’s a tiny tornado of destruction and only communicating through grunts, screams, and flailing about on the ground.
Not gonna lie, I was hoping for Beshear but I’m ready to run through a brick wall for Walz after what I’ve seen the last week or so. Hope coach/CSM gets called up to the big leagues tomorrow.
It’s bar exam week. Yes, I think we should overhaul the whole law school and licensing system, but until we yeet the damn test into the Sun, good luck to everyone sitting for it this week.
Try to treat yourself to some ice cream tonight to ease your mind.
