Note about submission etiquette:
When an editor tells you they liked a certain poem best in your submission, this is a personal rejection.
It is not standard practice to respond to any form of rejection with follow-up questions.

CLMP has confirmed that
@submittable
closed 3 accounts affiliated with serial plagiarist "John Kucera" (aka. John Siepkes) While we're aware Kucera/Siepkes can open more accounts, this awareness paves the way for handling future problems of this sort in a swift manner

Finally, and this should really go without saying, editors read a great deal of poems. This is a labor of love. Typically, free labor. Asking for more free labor might be asking for more than you realize.
This is a great example of a submission Cover Letter:
Hello ONE ART,
Hope all is well.
Thank you for your consideration of this submission. I know you receive many submissions, and so I appreciate your time.
My bio is below.
Thank you,
X

Asking an editor, "Why did you like X poem best?" can make for an uncomfortable situation. First of all, we're talking about poetry. The "why" can be very elusive. Second, and moreover, it's a subjective opinion. Don't make too much of this.
AHH!!! Ya'll, do NOT give up! After 23 rejections, I just received an ACCEPTANCE from my
#1
DREAM JOURNAL!!! I admire
@RattlePoetry
so much! It's an absolute honor to say that my poem "Ghazal: Like a Prayer" will appear in Rattle issue

! Thank you

and team! 🎉🎉
For those following "The Kucera Situation"
"John Kucera" -- the serial plagiarist who goes by a number of different pseudonyms -- has recently been sending work to lit mags as "R. J. Franz"
*** Updated Submission Guidelines ***
"Send 1-5 poems (10 pages max) + bio (any length)"
Previously, "(5 pages max)"
You can always query if you want to share something that seems atypical for ONE ART
John Kucera attempted to publish "Summer 1993" in ONE ART.
It was then discovered that the poem was published in
@redividermag
days before it was forthcoming from ONE ART.
At that time, we confirmed the other two poems allegedly by Kucera had been previously published
Keep submitting
If you receive a rejection notice, jump back on the horse

From the get go, I've wanted ONE ART to have both swift acceptance & publication soon after acceptance.
In Year 4 of ONE ART, we're receiving so much terrific work that I'm now scheduling work two months out...
Apologies for the wait time,
-
@MarkDanowsky
So, in June, we've been publishing two poets per day on most days.
We know some prefer the honor of having the day to themselves.
Please know, much depends upon the quality of submissions we receive.
We receive an embarrassment of riches.
xo
ONE ART will be announcing Pushcart Prize nominations later in the holiday season as we have nominated a poem that will be published in December.
We very much look forward to sharing this year's nominations!
Jason Teal of
@HeavyFeatherRev
has been generous enough to keep up this Where to Submit list after our community lost the useful list maintained by Entropy a little while back
Pleased to say that ONE ART is now listed
When we shared new Submission Guidelines including suggestions for how to compose a Cover Letter, in hindsight, someone was going to have fun with it!
Shout-out to Patrick Flynn for being the first person to do so

We have almost filled our whole monthly schedule for March (Women's History Month) and are starting to fill our publication calendar for April (aka. National Poetry Month)
ONE ART has been averaging 15-20 submissions per day of 1-5 poems
We hope you'll send us poems!
~ ONE ART 10-Year Plan ~
Over the next 10 years...
ONE ART projects to publish...
A minimum of 3650 poems
Best guestimate: 10,950 poems
High: 21,000 poems
Max: 36,000 poems
For the record, recent changes to ONE ART submission guidelines (including the allowance of work previously shared on socials and in audio formats) is the result of good conversation on ThePoetrySpace_ hosted by

@timothygreen
Catching up on submissions today
Thrilled to read so much exceptional work!
A pleasure to give out well-deserved acceptances
If you received a rejection notice this time around we sincerely hope you will not be discouraged from trying us again
These are two poems that John Kucera claims are his own
Please let us know if these poems are plagiarized as it has come to our attention that Kucera is making a bad habit of this practice

A note from Trish Hopkinson with a reminder that ONE ART has a Call for Submissions for our 2024 Haiku Anthology which will bill published on National Haiku Day

grazing in the field behind my house. It was morning,
early enough for the dew to still be settled.

Loving that more readers are leaving [kind, thoughtful, appropriate] comments on ONE ART poems 🥰
Hope poets & readers agree this adds something positive to the sense of community ONE ART aims to create
For a while, ONE ART published only a single poet per day.
More recently, we have received more submissions with good poems we wish to publish. This has resulted in publishing two poets some days.
It has come to my attention that some may not like this new policy.

Wish it did not feel so necessary to have extensive Submission Guidelines
Longish guidelines are, hopefully, a way to make the submission process easier
ONE ART's guidelines are also intended to be a useful resource
The aim is to make submissions simple overall

Seeking short(ish) poems. Be concise. Effective line breaks are a must. Titles with utility value. Razor away all that distracts from the poem's intention. Give me a gut punch.
