Dear writers, poets, photographers, artists of any kind: Anti-Heroin Chic's submissions window for our December issue is now open! Send us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses of thoughts and feelings yearning to breathe free 🧡
Fellow lit mags that don't send out rejection emails to submitters: you really ought to make mention of that in your guidelines. It's an awful feeling for submitters to not hear anything back at all, and it's the least we editors can do. Polite, yes, but also kind.
Today is the day! We are so happy to announce that submissions for our August issue are now open. We are thrilled to get back to reading your marvelous work. Now through July 25th share with us your poems, stories, essays and artwork. Guidelines, and more:
Apparently some writers feel that our rejection letters are "too kind." So much so they feel compelled to tell us in not so kind ways. While we can understand not liking an editor's approach, that's no reason to be unprofessional and rude. Have the thought, and then let it go.
All you lit mags are gorgeous and necessary. And hearts out to all those who risk and dare to set up space for the love of it. Pay no attention to the tiers & the rankings & the lists & the bests & the better thans. It's all one big field anyway and we're walking it. As equals.
Submissions are open friends. We're seeking stories, poems, essays, and artwork/photography. Come on in, we need you. The world needs you. Just keep on creating, even if it's just for yourself at first. The heart heals by putting it all down. We're awfully lucky to have this gift
Hello friends, our December issue has now taken wing! To those who each time fill these pages with their tender, fierce, and overflowing hearts, we thank you endlessly. Hope sings in darkness, sings darkness too. This is the work. Till next year, friends.
Our latest offering and our deepest gratitude to all those who have gathered with us for this one. May you each find some comfort and catharsis in this issue, as we surely have. Till next time, friends - keep on singing your light against the dark.
Too much controversy/noise in the lit world sometimes. We're here for 3 things: the work you grace us with, the relationship we forge with you through that work, and the healing we together do because we walk less alone than before. That's all that really matters. We love you.
There's nothing wrong with rejections that try to be soft or kind. Some of us have had really hard lives and have softened-up instead of the alternative. We all have our preferences for how to reject or have work rejected. We've chosen softly. No shame in that. At all.
Submitting often is daunting. Whether your work is accepted or not by us it is done so with immense compassion & a thorough respect for the risk it always is to share parts of our life stories & the art that comes of it with others. We hope you'll join us:
Does anyone else feel like submissions, both the sending and the receiving, is a kind of sacred act? We certainly do. Sharing is courage and vulnerability intertwined, and we enter another country as readers/writers. Forever changed. We welcome such moments. Won't you join us?
Just a friendly little reminder that our submissions are open for your poems, stories, essays, artwork, and photography until July 25th. We look forward to reading your work.
Friends, we're live, & grateful, & honestly moved to tears by this beautiful, brave, resilient issue. In case you've ever found yourself doubting it: the work you do really matters, to someone, somewhere. Know we needed it & we thank you for sharing this hard work with us...
Hello friends, our August issue is live today. There is such haunting, healing, and life-reaffirming work within these pages. We are humbled to ground for the things you have shared here with us. That in such a cold, dark world- there also be warmth.
What sustains us: poems, stories, essays, and artwork that sing from the heart to the heart, of darkness and of light threading through that dark, of hope and despair, of all the ways in which art helps us to repair. We would be so honored to hear your songs, your stories.
Our poetry inbox has been very quiet of late. We'd love to add some more poems to our April issue, so we're offering a special week long 24 hr response for poetry. Have a poem you're excited about, receive a decision on the same day! (Retweets appreciated)
We would love to see some of your poems (& stories/essays/art) in our inbox this weekend. If you'd be so kind as to help us spread the word that would be greatly appreciated. Guidelines and a little bit about us:
Hello all, just a friendly little reminder that we are open for submissions and that we would love to read your work. Send poems, send stories, send essays, send art, but above all; send heart. It's always an honor and a joy to spend time with your work.
Hello friends, our August issue is now live! We hope that you'll find some comfort, identification, and inspiration here in these pages. Much gratitude to our contributors for sharing these stories, poems, and visions with us, and the world.
Reminder that our submissions are open! You still have time, so cook up some creativity as we head into fall 🍁❤️
You can find more submission info on our website, and check out the wonderful works we have published in the past :)
Isn't it something how we erect so many fences, but the things that grow there know nothing of borders, they route their way through. Art does this too. Through confusion and pain, something in us finds its way out towards the world. And the world softens by a gentle degree...
And what is a poem? Blessedly, we've no idea. The questioning spirit, the spirit at play, a child's curiosity, an unnameable openness? To think one could point to the poem and pronounce: "this, this and this alone is a poem." No, blessedly it is not that at all.
Hello friends, our new issue is live today. Thank you to each of our contributors for braving their voices with us. To speak is to be heard, by someone, somewhere. We hear you, and now, may so many others as well, in these pages find the things they need.
Hello friends, our submissions are now open for our August issue. As always we look forward to spending time with your work. Guidelines and more can be found on our website:
We have entered our last month of submissions! We would be so grateful if you graced our inbox with your words before the 25th 🤍

Hello all, just a friendly reminder that our submissions are open until 9/25. We are seeking poetry, fiction, essays and artwork/photography. We look forward to reading your work.
Submissions are now open for our Dec. issue. It's been a long, difficult year. But your work has carried our editors, contributors & readers through. We hope you'll join us for our end of the year issue, where we ask, a la Malcolm Holcombe: "Who done it? Who (what) carried you?"
Hello all, gentlest of reminders that we are open for submissions of poetry, essays, fiction and photography/artwork for our autumnal October issue until Sept 25th. We hope to hear from you.
Hello friends, just a little reminder that we are open for submissions of poetry, fiction, essays and artwork/photography through March 25th. We very much look forward to spending time with your work. Guidelines:
Friends, our latest offering. May you find in these pages that you are not alone in it. That healing, even if not a promise, is a possibility. And because dark must be given its due, there is that too. Here, where we sing the dark. Together.
Hello friends, EIC here. I'm hoping to have this issue out before Christmas but there's been some post surgery complications and pain is keeping me from being able to work on it much. It's 80% complete though & once I'm feeling better we will get this thing out there. Much love.
We are pleased to announce that submissions for our next issue are now open, until 7-25. Guidelines, and an emotional feel of our fields, can be found on our website. We very much look forward to learning the world through you. (Retweets much appreciated)
Our February issue is now live! A thing of pain, healing, resilience, beauty and love. Thank you to all of our contributors for sharing their walk with us. May there be a few talismans to take with you here on your journey of healing.

As this week comes to a close just a gentle little reminder that our submissions are open and that we'd be honored to spend some time with your work. Guidelines:
Hello all, James here. Just a note of profound gratitude to you all for the love & support during this trying time. What a kind community. You've literally saved my life here. Thank you for helping me to get this surgery & to get well again. My heart is so full. I love you all.
Friends, our submissions soon will be closing. There is room yet. Join us. If art be the vehicle by which we travel through the rough terrain of our lives, pray that we each arrive safely through our respective darkness into some kind of light.
We are so pleased to announce our nominees for this year's Best of The Net Awards! Endless gratitude to each of you for having entrusted us with these powerful pieces! We wish you all the very best of luck!
It is perhaps important to remember that even with rejections someone out there sat down and spent quality time with someone's work, took it in, was probably in some way moved by it, and not at all enjoyed the disappointment that would inevitably come with their rejection.
Our latest gathering. And to each of you who found your way here, thank you. Your work is that presence that makes the difference. That through all loss and pain, there is this 'something else' that remains. And we are ever grateful.
Our grief & loss issue is now live. Thank you to everyone who shared a piece of their heart & their loss with us. Beyond all else, in reading each of your pieces, it helped us to grieve & our hope is that it helped you as well, & now, the world.
Well, we were just threatened with a lawsuit by a contributor who is "taken aback" that we did not remunerate him and given 24 hours to remove his work before he takes "further action". Good luck buddy, you can't squeeze blood from a turnip. Also, just read the guidelines, hello!
Submissions for our February issue are now open until Jan 24th. Send us your words and your visions of mercy, the songs that you sing at the end of the hardest and longest day, year, life. Tell us your story. We are listening.
We hope you will join us at our literary potluck gathering of a June issue. So many beautiful & persevering meals of words here. Our deepest gratitude to our contributors who help us to keep what we do here heart-centered & soul-forward. Welcome, travelers
Time passes quickly, don't it. Coming up on the closing of submissions soon & just throwing another gentle little reminder out there. We hope you might think of us as a home at the edge of the world, a place where those who for so long thought they didn't belong find that they do
The start of a new year, what will it bring us, we must all be wondering, slightly hopeful, slightly wary, hopefully creating through all the complicated feelings and ordeals that arise in our lives. We'd love to read what you've been sitting with and working on (link in our bio)
Calling all weary travelers in for a seat at the mercy table. Share with us stories, poems, snapshots: of all the hard-won ways in which we somehow made it this far. Submissions close on Nov 30th. Guidelines & more:
Well, friends, this is our last issue of the year. As always, there is no us without you, so thank you for being here, and for sharing the hard and joyous parts of life with us. Grab a place by the fire and join us for a little bit of mercy, won't you?
Here we are. Our April issue has bloomed. We are so grateful to all of you for sharing your incredible voices with us. If ever you feared it might all have been for nothing, here is a little bit of proof that maybe it was not, that 'hope springs eternal.'
You will know joy again. Your song will return to you, your people will be found, your place set and saddled with warmth. Bear moments unbearable, heel in earth; because you will most definitely sing again. And there are those who need your particular song, none else will do...
Our official release trailer. To all of our wonderful & brave contributors, over 100 of you, thank you. This was the hardest thing to do, for us & for you. But we get through when we share our getting through with others. A heart, broken, is put back together in community.
Just a friendly reminder that our submissions are open. We've so thoroughly enjoyed reading all the incredibly moving work we've received so far. The human spirit doesn't just endure, it transmutes through art something ineffable and precious. And it's true, there's only one you.
Our poetry inbox is runnin' on empty. Send us your poems, your glimmers of hope & healing. We have a pretty fast response time, typically within a week. Retweets very much appreciated. Guidelines, and the tone of our spirit, here:

What an incredibly sad and dark time that we find ourselves in. But the contributors in our June issue remind us of where it is hope comes from: it is borne in the dark, though we wish there were an easier way to arrive at it. May you find some hope here.
Submissions are open. Send us your works of mercy, the hard things written down at the tail end of a long afternoon. And ain't it a wonder, the still being here, the going on, the getting through? And how you do. You just do. Show us the sacred map.
Contributors please feel free to reach out to us with any good news / new publications you'd like for us to share. We're always here for you. We miss so much that's going on in the timeline so always feel free to reach out to us if you'd like. Our platform is your platform.
Our last issue of this long dark year is here. We are ever grateful for the stories of shatter, hope, rebuilding & deep wisdom that you each share with us. From the place where “there is nothing but pain,” to the place that talks about that pain, & more...

Our new issue is live today. To all who offered up their art to us, thank you. It's by your light that we're able to see what's around us. Art, as witnessing, is a balm like no other. May you take some comfort in these pages. In knowing you're not alone.
We have a new poetry editor at AHC,
@ehoranpoet
, please give her a warm welcome & maybe send her some of your poems for our November issue at our new email address antiheroinchic

It might seem like a small thing, but it's important (& polite) to thank editors when they accept your work. It makes us smile, feel appreciated & have clarity that you still want your piece to be published. We editors enjoy your joy. & communication, in all areas of life, is key
Our subs have been a little slow this reading period so we're offering a special 24 hour response for poetry this weekend at Anti-Heroin Chic. Visit our website for guidelines and a feel for what we're looking for. Retweets are very much appreciated!
Sure, there's a lot wrong in the literary world, as in any space of life, but goodness; there's so much right & soft & beautiful & kind in it also. To all fellow editors, mags & creatives out there just doing this thing from the heart, & in many ways to heal, just keep on singing
Submissions are officially open for our April issue, deadline 3/25. We encourage you to just 'come as you are.' We are seeking poems, stories, essays & artwork/photography that speak, both to where you hurt, and where you heal.
Our new issue is now live! So much gratitude to the wonderful, resilient voices gathered here. You have all brought a very special wordlight to the road we're on. From our hearts to yours, thank you for sharing your strength, wisdom & hope with us.

Guidelines:
Our space was born from Dr. Mate's question "not why the addiction, but why the pain" Addicted or not, we're all in some kind of pain. Art doesn't take it away but it can help delimit it so we can get a sense of what we're working with. Tell us friends, what are you working with?
We are currently open for submissions for our next (October) issue. Our theme, as always, is guided by you; is gathering. We look forward to spending time with your work. Deadline, September 25th. Guidelines on our website.

Last call friends, our submissions close in 5 days. In the meantime wishing everyone a safe & peaceful holiday spent among family/chosen-family/friends, hopefully those who love & accept you just as you are. We'll see you in Dec. with our latest offering.
We need much more compassion in all spaces of life. A fiercely dedicated, invested, and involved compassion, which is not to say a compassion without anger or boundary, but a compassion that is fully human and unafraid to be so.
Hi folks, we just wanted to express our deep gratitude to all who submitted to us this round. We hope you'll bear with us as we are still working our way through them & hope to have all replies sent out by the end of July, with our new issue soon to follow. Much love & gratitude.
Hello friends, just a little under a month left before submissions for our August issue close on July 25th. We would be honored to spend time with your work. Guidelines and more can be found on our website:
We hope, do we not, almost as deeply as we despair? The measure is not often equal. We feel undone and we undo the feeling. Turn it into poetry, or song. It's no shame to say such things are healing. Such things are healing. Share with us the things that have kept you here.
Hello friends, old and new, we hope you might consider stopping by this weekend and submitting some work for our upcoming issue. When all the noise settles and fades around you, what are the softer sounds you hear, heartside, soulside? What true north?
Happy New Year everyone! Just a little reminder that our submissions are open until 1-24. We look forward to bringing your poetry, fiction, essays, photography and artwork into the new year. Stay in your light, friends. Keep on offering it up to others, and to yourself.
We are currently open for submissions. We are looking for work that "opens the moment," words, sounds, gestures from the intimate edge of experience. We heal in community when we risk our deeper story. Compassion, gentleness, and hope is our road map home
Last call, here, on the cusp of fall, for submissions for our October issue, which will be closing next Sunday. We hope to hear from you, friends.

Hello everyone, just a quick update on our new October issue, there may be a slight delay in its release as our EIC is having some health issues at the moment, but we hope to have the issue out in a week, or two, at the very latest. Thank you so much for bearing with us.
We hope that this weekend has treated you all well. Just a little reminder that our submissions are currently open until July 25th. We would be very honored to read your work and hope that you'll keep us in mind.
Hello friends, we hope the new year finds you each well. After a little bit of time away we are very happy to say that we will officially be open for submissions for our April issue tomorrow. We very much look forward to spending some time with your work.
Shadows can't exist without light. In creative work, too, light and darkness exist codependently. We would love to discover what your personal shadow-play looks like.
🤍
Deadline 3/25. Guidelines and more can be found on our website
