@NEFieldUnit I would say 99.5% B #controversial . . . . 30 years ago this churchyard was mown like a messy (uncollected cuttings) bowling green. Today a truly species-rich grassland. SOLUTION - allow a few mown (and collected) paths to demonstrate to cynics that it is cared for - it works!

Our wonderful volunteers braved the rain today to re-plant areas of the Middle Henge at Thornborough. Fragments of turf containing calcareous grassland species had been removed from the Henge & looked after in our plant nursery while restoration work took place. @EnglishHeritage

Please contact @HighwaysEngland about taking down this awful netting. It is a death trap for wildlife. No matter how well they think it's fitted it deteriorates & becomes a danger. They've had all Autumn & Winter to remove hedge, the planning of this project is not good enough.

More planting taking place around the edges of our reedbed to increase plant biodiversity. Adding Tufted Sedge, Bladder Sedge, Great Fen Sedge & Water Dock amongst others 🌱. We've also extended the straw bale barrier behind the fen planting to reduce silt encroachment ✋️🚫😊.

We're asking local naturalists to look out for magnesian limestone grassland in the area between Knaresborough & Catterick. Outside a few well-known nature reserves, small remnants go un-recorded on road verges, green lanes and churchyards. Info:

Our new sluice is now up and running on the reedbed, enabling us to start some serious reed cutting in early 2019. Thousands of starlings going to roost and quite a few water rail calling.

volunteers have been recruited by Project Officer, Emma Higgs. Through regular workdays, community days, surveying & admin, volunteers have racked up over 6,000 hours of volunteering this year!! We simply wouldn’t have achieved what we have without them.🥰

Welcome to Hebridean sheep, kindly loaned by @YWT_North 👍 Just 25 years ago it was freshly deposited silt and five years ago smothered in orchid spikes; recently is has started to become more rank. The sheep will help keep a shorter award, aiding species like dingy skipper.🦋
